i really really wanted to love this movie but the last act just didn’t do it for me. i agreed that it relied a little hard on the trippy scenes and just the vibe in general, and yes it was incredibly tedious for me. i considered leaving a couple times just because i was bored and annoyed with it. mia goth was iconic, and i loved the look of the film, brandon’s got an interesting film language. but i couldn’t help but feel like the fact that i wasn’t overwhelmed by the shock value, especially from THE trip scene on, meant the movie just couldn’t hit for me the way it could’ve. i loved some of the concepts and the acting was great and again the cinematography and mia were spectacular, but i just kinda left this movie mad. also yes the theater cut did still have the nipple sausage but yeah the cumshot was much less graphic. which i appreciated, the movie felt unnecessarily gratuitous enough at times as is. it was like a 5/10 for me
I’d love there to be two James one on the island and one back home. This could be how he becomes a “successful” writer. The clone writes about the first trip and original feeds him new material .

Thought it was a great entry for Brandon's career, my personal favorite of his is still Possessor, but I think that Infinity Pool was an excellent display of what Mr. Brandon Cronenberg is capable of. Skarsgard and Mia had such a contrasting chemistry that worked so well on screen! Can't wait to see what's next for the Cronenbergs!
After my parents and I watched this movie, we questioned whether or not the original James was ever switched out and killed instead of the clone James during his first and second execution, thinking that it could be interpenetrated as to if the James that we see at the end is the real him or not. Also, I wonder what ever happened to the two girls that helped bring James into their house towards the end, since they were not shown to be present in the house when he woke up for real or outside when he confronted the Zombies.
100 percent yes. Do you remember when the cop came in and expressed how frustrated he was with the gang and he had something special planned and they said "yes, please"? That was the execution of the original human people. The clones were in the audience. ALL of them at the end were clones.
So jealous you got to see the Cum Cut. I'm gonna see it one more time in theaters but I'll hafta wait til home release for the NC-17 version. Apparently Brandon's next project will be a limited-series adaptation of J.G Ballard's "Super-Cannes." The plot sounds right up his alley, but I also think it's interesting that his father adapted another of Ballard's work "Crash" into a movie in the 90s.

I enjoyed it, but some parts of it seemed a little familiar. I saw bits of Midsommar (cult in a European setting and also that upside down shot), The Menu (poking fun of rich people) Men (body horror where someone got split in half) Triangle of Sadness (beach setting/poking fun at rich people) and, of course, Pearl (Pearl’s in it)
I know it's not the point of the movie, but somehow I couldn't accept the idea that cloning a human being was presented as something so trivial. And to think that this place is the only place in the world where this is doable, the possibilities that a technology like this could bring. But nope; they use it just to execute people. And it's kinda hilarious if you think about it. They could even bring back the victim but no, punishment is the only thing that matters. Also, it is supposed to be a poor country that barely stands up thanks to tourists, but I think human cloning would be a much more profitable activity. I know I'm overthinking this but the lack of context on that matter kinda put me off a little.

As I was watching the film, part of me kept wondering if Em was in on the whole plot with Gabi and co. She was pretty vocal with her dissatisfaction with James in the beginning that it led me to think she wanted to bring him there to try to "fix" him. I kept expecting her to pop up again with her distraught behavior all being an act calling back to the "flair for dramatic" aspect of the island that Gabi mentioned lol
❤️ Thanks for your endless love and support you have shown me. I’m forever grateful. I really appreciate your unconditional love and support towards me... Where are you watching from?
agree, the ideas don't really come together and it's VERY on the nose at times. some ideas were just there as place holders for things to come (how did the body doubling actually impact the story? not much). but it was ok, acting was fine, not great. still cronenburgs ideas will come to into their right one of these days and then we'll have a truly great film. did like possessor better as well.
There's a couple of things I'm still fixating on academically. For example, this idea of what is truly primitive vs. civilized, and the ritual murder by the son. There's also the knife vs gun use (meaning why are knives sometimes used, and guns used in others, and what's the significance there).
I can’t wait till someone is able to make a conventionally attractive actress the villain of a horror movie without making her do something sexual. Idky but it just has become a stereotype. Either villian woman is a old rotting hag or a seductress demon

I just saw the theatrical cut of this movie (really want to see the Unrated). I loved it but there was this 80-something-year-old woman in the audience who started chirping it towards the end asking, "Is it too late to get my money back?" Ended up seeing her in the elevator and she said it was the "worst movie she'd ever seen in her life."
Dude, I really wanna watch this movie now! Stories about privilleged people trying to come to terms with their mediocrity are really interesting to me and I don't think I've ever seen it be taken quite this far, holy shit

I just don’t get the cloning aspect. Tourists killing the natives there, does that happen often enough to get a fancy clone machine? Liked Possessor better. Your review and questioning the movie was nice to hear compared others that liked it just because it was “ wild” . I thought it was kinda messy.

Subverting expectations only works if what you do is more interesting than what I expect. As I watched this movie my expectations were consistently subverted… and every time it was a either a discount, downgrade or bargain bin variant.
Ok but is there any way to confirm that the him at the end of the movie, is the him at the start of the movie? How much of a sick joke would it be, to have the double live while the "original" gets killed. Or at least the second time it happens, just to really fuck with people
I didn't watch the movie but after reading a full explaining my theory is that they are all clones of those people, and the real people are killed or in a smaller sense at least the main man.

Also, it is supposed to be a poor country that barely stands up thanks to tourists, but I think human cloning would be a much more profitable activity. I know I'm overthinking this but the lack of context on that matter kinda put me off a little.
I get so excited when you upload!! You’re amazing!! ❤
That scene sounds like it had to totally be inspired by Society (1989)
I couldn’t even finish this movie, I guess I have to find out the ending from Amanda 😂
I wanted to walk out towards the end, it was getting silly .
@@TrevyTrev-andTheFunkyPets for real 😳 I like Mia and skarsgard but damn
I need to find time to watch this in a theater but I don't want to go alone because this looks so unhinged 😂
I really liked this. I’m a sucker for confusing and seemingly surface level commentary and discussions that are mostly “whoa, what if THIS” at first.
Mia Goth is the brazilian (canadian and british as well) represantation I/we need !!
Huh, guess it runs in the family; when your dad is David Cronenburg you have some interesting tastes
Skarsgard should play james in a silent hill 2 movie
Thank you. I thought I was the only one not liking and even skipping trip scenes.
Love the representation for unhinged women without eyebrows that miss goth is bringing to the table
I love all the rich people are the bad guys movies. So close to being self aware
❤️ Thanks for your endless love and support you have shown me. I’m forever grateful. I really appreciate your unconditional love and support towards me... Where are you watching from?
As I was watching the film, part of me kept wondering if Em was in on the whole plot with Gabi and co. She was pretty vocal with her dissatisfaction with James in the beginning that it led me to think she wanted to bring him there to try to "fix" him. I kept expecting her to pop up again with her distraught behavior all being an act calling back to the "flair for dramatic" aspect of the island that Gabi mentioned lol
I don’t think so, she was coerced imo. But with movies like this anything is possible.
Ha! "How it was executed", good unintentional pun!
Full e-jac splat is a new one for me 😂😂😂

agree, the ideas don't really come together and it's VERY on the nose at times. some ideas were just there as place holders for things to come (how did the body doubling actually impact the story? not much). but it was ok, acting was fine, not great. still cronenburgs ideas will come to into their right one of these days and then we'll have a truly great film. did like possessor better as well.
She likes getting nekkid
I thought the trailer looked fucking terrible but I like both actors, especially Mia. I might check it out on streaming.
Awesome video. I might check infinity pool. I like your review on letterboxd and RUclips.
This movie has scenes that as much as I would be grotesquely intrigued I really don't want to see it so I'm glad you covered this movie
It’s giving acid trip ego death
I love your videos so I have to take this moment to comment while your sharing surf shark. Thank your for your content!

Full Ejact Splat is the name of my new band
I just saw the theatrical cut of this movie (really want to see the Unrated). I loved it but there was this 80-something-year-old woman in the audience who started chirping it towards the end asking, "Is it too late to get my money back?" Ended up seeing her in the elevator and she said it was the "worst movie she'd ever seen in her life."
Hahaha I loved it too. And anything that gets a visceral reaction from a sweet old lady is going to be for me 😂
Haha. I applaud her for at least watching and yes , I’m glad I only dropped $5 seeing it
Dude, I really wanna watch this movie now! Stories about privilleged people trying to come to terms with their mediocrity are really interesting to me and I don't think I've ever seen it be taken quite this far, holy shit
I think that I liked this movie, but I don’t particularly want to see it ever again, and I agree with Amanda that the ideas and themes the movie presents are much more interesting than the actual story the movie is telling
Yep we get bodily fluid and we get an interesting take on the whole cloning thing.
I just don’t get the cloning aspect. Tourists killing the natives there, does that happen often enough to get a fancy clone machine? Liked Possessor better. Your review and questioning the movie was nice to hear compared others that liked it just because it was “ wild” . I thought it was kinda messy.
i just wanna say, Possesor is one the best movie in years absolutely want more
David Lynch's style is making a comeback.
I found this channel by happenstance, and I was immediately won over by your style of speaking! You're really funny!
This movie had like, all the hallmarks of a surreal horror movie that I normally would love...but for some reason I can't put my finger on I walked away from it just feeling meh about it? I thought the performances were all good, the effects were cool, but I just felt bored the whole time
You have such a dynamic and fun eloquence to the way you review things, and I often watch films and shows after I see your reviews because you review it. Thank you for what you do, you have a fantastic talent 💜💚🧡
So on the fence about seeing this one
Suggested alternate title. The Squicker Man.
I didnt know what to think of Antiviral but I really enjoyed Possessor. Hope BC continues on this new wave of horror that seems to focus on terror more if that makes sense.
I agree... The ideas were outstanding, but the movie didn't quite satisfy. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it.
❤️ Thanks for your endless love and support you have shown me. I’m forever grateful. I really appreciate your unconditional love and support towards me... Where are you watching from?
I too went into this movie knowing nothing about it but the three sentence summary at redbox and boy it was a trip.
More Mia playing crazy and Alex playing an animal plz
I don't know if you have already or if you have a spot for suggestions. But could you possibly do a video on the movie Platform? (2019)
Also, I found you last year and I've been very grateful and excited to watch more of your videos since!

really missed the date on the plane ticket detail. I understood most of the self referential stuff, but that one I didnt catch.
I honestly don't understand why I keep getting unsubscribed to your channel but yea subscribed
I hope Amanda reviews ‘you can live forever’!
I laughed a lot during the movie too and wasn’t expecting it. The orgy scene was so long I kinda blacked out until the stuff came out of the nipple LOL snapped me right back
So, I’m just happy that Cronenberg included another Canadian treasure, Amanda Bruegel.
Mia Goth is the moment. She would make the perfect female Freddy Krueger or cenobite
Maybe not related but 2018 was the year the stock market crashed as well.

Subverting expectations only works if what you do is more interesting than what I expect. As I watched this movie my expectations were consistently subverted… and every time it was a either a discount, downgrade or bargain bin variant.
I feell Brendan made the movie he wanted to make. All of it felt intentional. I would not call this a "bad" movie, just a movie I did not enjoy.
Loved your insights and thoughts on this film! 🎬
I learned about this movie ‘cause the composer, Tim Hecker, is an ambient artist I like! His 2011 album Ravedeath, 1972, is incredible!
i felt like i was having a very weird fever dream the whole time i was watching this movie
Cop "I'm going to make a statement", gang "yes, please". The originals were executed.
