  • The Pikocube is a little LED cube with 54 pixels, a ESP8285-01F WiFi MCU and an ADXL345 gyroscope sensor. The dimensions of every single PCB are 25x25mm. Flashable via those 6 SMD pads on the one side. Plan is to use the cube as a electronic dice which detects when it is thrown and when it gets inactive.

    I built something like this about 16 years ago. It was 16mmx16mm with a 7x7 bi-color 0403 SMT led array on each side running on a 2xNiMh coin cells and a Motorola PIC18F??? MCU and an analog devices accelerometer. No wifi. The boards were fabricated at home. I ended up with too dim of a display due to the low battery voltage and eventually blew up the MCU and abandoned it. This video mades me think it might be time to revive it.

    • @zc2ndbass

      That's really cool. Might make a dice program for it. So when you roll the cube it only ligjt just a few leds

    • @pauldavis2108
      @pauldavis2108 3 года назад +1

      @@zc2ndbass An electronic dice was what I was going for. You could roll any number from 0-99 on it. You woke the dice by giving it a good shake. It ran in the lowest power mode waking every 3 seconds, checking the accelerometer for orientation change before going back to sleep. Once awake you could select the value of the device by rotating it up and down with the number displayed incrementing/decrementing by one for each 90 degree rotation. A quick vertical shake would lock in the number. You'd then roll it and it would display the number rolled on in red on all sides. The sides would then slowly dim and relight in green with the number the roll was out of (so you couldn't cheat) before the entire dice would dim and go back to sleep.

  • @sebastiannielsen
    @sebastiannielsen 3 года назад

    what about doing a small electronic rubriks cube? Controlled by the accelerometer, ergo, for the face pointing upwards, tipping the cube to the left, will move the leftmost column upwards, tipping the cube upwards will move the topmost row to the right , tipping the cube to the right will move the rightmost column down, and tipping the cube towards you will move the bottom row to the left.
    Jolting the cube upwards will move the second row to the right, and jolting the cube downwards will move the second column upwards.
    Jolting the cube to the left, right, forwards and backwards, will move the sides in the opposite directions
    By having all rows and columns go in opposite directions, it doesn't matter which orientation you hold the cube, it will still be "right". Only thing that never can be right is the middle row and middle column, but thats only the difference between moving 1 time or moving 3 times to reach the desired position.
    And to "scramble" such a rubiks cube, you just roll it as a dice a couple of times, then jolting it in random directions, and then roll it as a dice again.
