      I beg to differ The vocals are on point but the guitar isn't as high-pitched and it's missing that organ sound. And the piano sound is missing so the base is there but it's missing the rest of it.

    Excellent workaround having no keyboards, subtle yet effective. Seems like Kelsi would do well holding a tambo or something. She's air-guitaring anyway, might as well add the percussion. ;)

    It seems like they don’t have the vocal amp turned up loud enough. Also, she tends to lack power compared to the original singer. I’m not knocking her because she’s fantastic. I’m just saying, I would like to hear a little more vocal power.

    A capella...great way to open! Great and creative crew. But vocally this is very much an ensemble song.
    They have the Progresasive part down. But need work on some of their teamwork.

    I used to cover this and I'm really missing the keys... it's just empty without them. Kelsi needs more vocal support on big arrangements like this. Not sure the drummer is one you want to keep. There are some shiny spots, yes... but they're fragmented and a bit scattered. It could use some polish and I think you can do better than you did this day.

      @@PatrickSmithTX My last manager, a guy by the name of Pat Merret, is the same guy who got Styx their first gold record - Grand Illusion. I really do know a thing or two about this road you're on, and I don't hate you, I just want more for you. I see so much "oh this is awesome" online these days, and yes, you need to hear that too, but honestly, nothing fueled us more than someone pissing us off. So behind the words, I'm hoping you all "show me up" and I'll just smile and say, "I knew you could do it".
      Music is still the same monster today as it has always been and I'm sure you've already heard "no" more than once. I remember being called "a shit opener band" and publicized as such... but 3 years later, we were on the radio as in-studio guests for a statewide broadcast promoting my latest project. I was going to new towns and clubs and becoming the talk of the town within 3 gigs. All we did, was listen to those who said, "You need to address this or work on that" and then we put in the labor.
      Was I at your gig? No. Does the video tell the whole story? Not likely. I get that too. So it isn't that I don't like you, I just want you to blow my doors off and shove it in my face because I gave you some harsh, piss-you-off, criticism. But... only because I see potential. I can only imagine where you'll be in 3-5 years with a real fire under your butt.
      Go get it!

      @@kennethgoin628 your views, as anyones, are subjective. Most of your critiques seem pretty nitpicky and you appear to be looking for any negative opinion you can muster up from all of our videos that you commented on 🤣 I understand that you've been somewhere, but I can also tell you that you don't know where we've been and what we have done and are doing. I can confidently say that most of the opinions you have spoken are pretty far off from the reality of who we are, what we do, and what you can witness in these videos. You are speaking about some of the most in demand studio and live musicians in DFW and outside of here. I appreciate your attempt at advice, but as a musician who has been doing this professionally for 12 years, I'm proud of the performances here and there's very little I would change about them and I heavily disagree with pretty much all of what you have said. I think how the Magic Man video is doing on views and comments also speaks volumes against your negative critique. I know that we can't please everyone, and I mostly do this because of the joy it brings me and the love I have for music, but I can also tell you that the four people on the stage with me here are incredibly professional and insanely talented and I'm just not hearing or seeing all of these flaws that you claim to be there. Do we have stuff we need to work on? Definitely. Are we performing these songs as ourselves and not trying to completely emulate each original musician? Definitely. Is there improvisation where we have to look at each other and cue when a section is now going to end? Yep. I don't normally engage these types of negative comments, but yours entertained me more than the others I've seen. I mean no offense as well and I do appreciate your intentions! I hope you dig our original music we'll be releasing (we performed two of the songs at this show and there are videos) and if you want to look us up and follow us, come say hey if we're ever in the same town!

    • @kennethgoin628
      @kennethgoin628 2 года назад +1

      Absolutely! I'll look up the original tunes and look for the release. Love the fire in your response and please, never lose the pride in your accomplishments. We all have stories... no one believes in us... can't catch a break, but somehow, here we are. Cheers by the thousands, and then some toad comes along and says, "I think you can do better". Believe me Patrick, I get it. Every time you hit the next level, someone wants "more". That's just the way it goes.
      It does appear that with today's social media, artists are not so dependent on labels and contracts to be considered successful. Back in my day (I'm old... 80s/90s era), that's how it was because it was the ultimate measuring stick and so every little thing mattered. Does that make me nitpicky? Mmm... maybe. And I'm not saying if you knew me you'd feel any different, but you'd at least see my face, hear my tone, and see more than just a bunch of faceless words. Back then, we had to beat out every hungry band on the planet to get any recognition/respect, and half of those guys/girls were our friends! And we've seen those "pros" that go out some night and really stink it up! It doesn't mean they suck or their career is over. I get that too. But perhaps, things are finally changing enough that things have become more forgiving.
      I'm glad you commented on my responses. Airing it out can be good, when the heart isn't evil. I would never tell you to give it up. But I would, obviously, play that toad that walks up and says, "You always gonna do that?" lol When I was in my prime, kids were coming up all the time, wanting to know how to this or that and "come see our show! tell us what we need to work on!"... and my band did the same with those above us. Nothing better than when you start rubbing elbows with those you look up to, getting invited backstage because you're simply recognized at a concert... never give up! If things change, they change. But always follow that heart.
      Go get it!

      Aww man, have some pity, the drummer has the hardest job. 😅 He slowed down a tiny bit a few seconds after he came in at around 1:33, but from what I've heard, I don't think he needs to be replaced. We all mess up from time to time.
      I agree about the vocals though. I heard a fair number of out of tune notes in this song, and in Magic Man. And I think the ability to belt may be necessary in order to really pull off a song like Magic Man - I thought the vocals needed more dynamic contrast between the verses and choruses, and it wasn't cutting through the mix as well as it should have. Or maybe the sound guy just needed to turn up the vocals a bit. Plus, those low G's in Carry On are really low for Kelsi's range. They should consider playing the song up a whole step. And this is really nit-picky, but Kelsi could be clearer on a few consonants (the W's in "wayward" and the H in "weary head" in particular).

  • @crusheverything4449
    @crusheverything4449 2 месяца назад

    These kids are pretty good, but they need some harmony vocals and a good keyboard player to be able to pull off a lot of the classic songs they’re doing. I realize they’re playing stuff that was recorded by some of the best rock musicians ever and I give them high marks, but they can and will get better. I hope they’re writing originals, too.
