This is exactly like the PSX dvr! But just made by panasonic and is the OG dvr console. Sony built the same dvr concept after the relase of the Panasonic Q! The DVR and gaming console mashup is an interesting japanese invention.

I brought one of these was on a junk listing it was covered dust and cigarette tar powered it up and it worked things also complete spent a day cleaning it up and now have a decent condition fully working psx

Took 4 years to find one in good condition and took few months to get from japan to Romania

Seconding other comments, this is the a great explanation of all of the facets of the PSX, without hyperbole. Great job.
Don't forget about the Panasonic Q, another Gamecube system made in Japan too! Same thing but made for Nintendo.
If these weren't region locked I would of bought one around 2012.
