Hi, there. Very nice video. I grew up in the 60s and 70s and would like to add that many families had a set of encyclopedias. It was a pretty familiar occurrence to have encyclopedia salesmen knock on the door from time to time. If you had an older set of encyclopedias, you'd have to buy a newer edition. This kept the door-to-door salespeople and publishers in business for decades. And, yes, we went to the library pretty regularly, not just to get some books to read for pleasure, but to get books that answer some burning questions we had. The reference librarians were helpful, too, if you wanted someone else to do your research. lol Oh, there were some phone numbers you could call that would connect with a reference librarian and they sometimes knew the answers to your questions. Yes, we all had paper maps tucked away in our cars and stopping for directions was something we all did pretty regularly. I love new technology and the Internet is amazing, but I do have some nostalgia for the simpler days. Thanks again for your video and insight!

I grew up in the UK in the 80's. Our libraries had records, tapes and later CDs we could borrow, for a token refundable deposit.
Needless to say we never bought any albums unless we really really wanted it.

Encyclopedias! Good one. My mom had a bookshelf of those, which I'd occasionally use for school reports... which I'd write out (copy) on a piece of paper by hand! It used to take effort to find information, now the information finds you.

My dad used to rent video tapes from the video store and would bootleg copy to a blank VHS using a second VCR so he can watch it again after returning it. 😆

@@Rachel_M_ Oh, yes. I remember when cassette tapes, CDs and movies started appearing in the library. It was like a candy store. What? Free music and movies? Amazing

@@WinstonCodesOn Ah, you had them, too. Yes, writing reports out by hand is inconceivable today.

Having a broken heart was very difficult. There was nothing but music to listen to, and it seemed as though every musician conspire to write songs against you.

We had to read books and do manual research in most cases. If we were traveling we had GPSs and Maps ( i recommend learning maps even in todays world). We used to explore the shit out of the world I was a kid going 3 towns over parents didn't even know or get in contact with me. It was dangerous but so fun.

We had to use VCR's and wait to rewind the tape when it was done or wait a little to fast forward through the really long and boring parts. We had to know how to look things up by alphabetical order in a big thick dictionary if we wanted to know how to spell a certain word or know its definition. It also helped a lot to memorize a ton of things. Phones were often really hefty and could serve as a bludgeon in case of a home invasion. Oregon trail was often played just for the hunting mode on old Apple computers.
