- Anaheim Two press day went down this afternoon and in this installment of O'Neal's Checking in With series, we caught up with Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha's Eli Tomac to chat about the crazy competitive first three rounds, having the series points lead, and how he's adapting to the notoriously big power of the factory Yamaha YZ450F!

Love these 1 on 1 with Eli. Fan favorite for a long time.
Can't hardly believe he wants more power! Rode my buddy's KTM 450 last week down the road and that thing about ripped my arms out of my shoulder sockets. Amazing combination of torque and power. Bike didn't even want to flip or wheely , it just went really fast wide open. Amazing beast. Thanks Donn; SWAP MOTO LIVE
Glad to see that Eli,now a veteran of the Premier class...is opening up and not being so secretive about His Program!! Seems He is having a good time riding outside of Colorado bubble and training with the Team!! Plus He looks great on a Yamaha and getting better

@@NeoMK if you would have a little better "reading comprehension" whatever you say for hearing, you would get that he actually asked for more power. and the team said hes nuts that everyone else even asked for a detune.
@@weelgunny No way, the Kawi can't match the Yamaha. He just didn't want to say that the YZ has more power so he said it's different.

Donn asking killer questions, Tomac was fighting to find an answer that didn’t make either team sound bad. Sounds like he misses the Kawi chassis but likes the Yami engine.
Agreed. He was definitely searching for the right way to say things without trashing one or the other.
It must be tough as he left Kawi on good terms and had a heck of a run with them and lots of wins and championships on the green bike. So it's understandable he doesn't want to talk trash about the bike and/or team

Wish he could give honest answers regarding power and feel vs the kawi without getting in trouble by the higher ups. He had to really dance around those questions.

I would love to go on an elk hunt with Eli and talk about everything but moto and SX. He is by far my favorite rider currently racing
Id like that same thing but also talk dirt bikes I mean ya gotta a little but definitely there's plenty of other stuff to talk about.
@@kylehoffman4440 I just think bikes are not what defines him, I he is a dad now and a husband and he enjoys hunting. Racing although he knows he is lucky to make money doing it, it is still his job.

Hey, I'm right with Eli on max power and a buttery cable clutch, and steel plates with lowest gearing. Drive the bike with the clutch not the throttle. It's truly an art form. Also, 2nd gear gate starts. See ya! Ride it like a one two five! 🏁👈😎👍

I have so much respect for this guy, as an athlete and as a human being. As an old timer mountain biker, I like to think his legend of a father has something to do with the fact Eli is so well centered. Amen.

It’s really rare one wants more power with a 450 bc they actually spend more time DE tuning these bikes bc they have so much power, it’s good to see Et actually having fun and excited for the week before the next race

@@Andrew-wi4uj it does look good, but he has to work for it. As long as they all stay healthy that plate could be up for grabs, but The Tomac family has never given thing away unless they earned it.
@@stevepadilla9729 very true, Kenny needs to be more consistently up front, it can be done but he needs to get the bike setup better for the whoops, as he said. Once he fixes that, I think he could be much more competitive

Idk why but he looks so much better on the Yamaha. I used to be a Kawi guy but switched to Yamaha and I think Yamaha is the best brand hands down. 250 and 450

Donn you are so good at asking what i want to hear. Eli has had so many beast rides and to hear him talk about what he likes is awesome. Eli is so smart he knows that if he slowly works his way too100 percent then it well come to him at the end. The year is long and Dylan is also getting his feeling as well. watch at the end 21,94,3,1,14 will be there for the big number 1 plate. I say Eli is top 2 still at round 7. truly sucks for Jason and that Damm smoking green machine. Donn can you share more on what most sx max HP is 60-63hp? i know its different from out doors but just what most rider have on tap.

Hated seeing him leave Kawasaki, I will always ride and love the green team, but he is still one of my favorite riders. He has a really smooth riding style and seems like a good dude.
When you said to Eli that during your bike shootouts you found the Yamaha to have more forward traction. Were you referring to the front end not washing out in a turn or just the way it hooks up when the power is
applied? And a comment: If Eli can improve his starts by just 25% he will be everyone's worst nightmare. Great fun watching him ride!!!
If ET can improve his starts by 5% it’s over. There’s such a small window of good to bad starts in SX, just a tad better and he’s gone. It’d take a bad night for him to lose
Eli looked like he had way more raw power on the Kawi.
Perhaps. Also had considerable mechanical failures that costs him championships. I imagine Anderson was feeling that pain this last weekend. In stock form the Yamaha is a beast and the Kawi is just too tame for my preference/style.

single podium and red plate tells the story , he needs to step up to keep it ..funny to hear Eli ask for more power , most riders like less power these days , other than Herlings who also asked for more power from his KTM ... seems the 2 best MX ers seem to be able to control all that power the best
