Kyle, in my book you sit next to Tommy Aldridge, Tommy Lee, Alex Van Halen, Dave Grohl and Glenn Sobel.. drummers with more substance than flash. We need more like you!
I've got a long way to go before I'm able to play this song properly on the bass, but even just simplifying all those double stops, this is an insanely fun track to jam along to. What I love about this is how you show that you don't need a Neil-sized kit to make a stellar cover, but also how it looks like you're having a blast the whole time. Rock on!!
Very good! There is not one other drummer on the planet that has inspired & influenced so many, like the master Neil Peart ; With that in mind it's fair to say that this is a commendable tribute to the genius of the master .. the one & only, 'The Professor' , Neil Peart!
Just getting the fix of watching it is amazing enough but to know a drum legacy like Neil Peart drumming is holding it's place strong , that just means everything. Great job.👍🎼🥁
One of the most precise drum covers on RUclips. You nailed it. This is a very hard track. You are a true artist and one of the best drummers. Even Neil P would be impressed. If we're in the 80's right now, you'd be in a successful rock band. No doubt in my mind.
I think that many drummers out of love for Neil Peart try to faithfully recreate his playing. As far as I saw in your video, you played YYZ with your own originality in four places (I won't go into details). It's amazing! (The Ukiyo-e in the background of your room is also nice! ) From a RUSH fan living in Japan
Awesome! Great job!! Looks like you’re really enjoying the song, too. You know someone’s got it down when they make it look fun and easy. YYZ is tons of fun, but it ain’t easy. Bravo! 🤘🤘
As a Drummer myself you did an excellent job drumming to The Professor which is no easy task.I would have liked to seen the drum solo though that NP did in the song.Enjoyed watching it.Thanks for posting.
Absolutely killed it Neil's my idol I'm a drummer and can't do Rush yet but your awesome.lets hear some Cygnius x-1 book ll Thanks for bringing back memories I can listen to this all day
My request please sir!! Only the young- Journey. I’ve been looking for the perfect drum cover and I think you have it! That song takes me back, in the younger years, but the live version, In the more recent year, the drummer, around minute 4:00, does a transition on the Tom’s… holy crap. The ability you have to tap into the seat of the drummer, in the version you’re listening to, it’s pretty awesome. Keep on!
Hell yeah. I've been practicing drums for a couple of months now. I just started working on fast double kicks. You can get in 12 kicks before I can pull off 2. Awesome drumming man. As I commented on another one of your videos when I'm feeling defeated learning something I can't get yet I watch one of your videos. I gets me pumped up to continue. You look like you're having the best time ever!
And also keep in mind you’re seeing the best take I got after practicing this song A LOT. There’s a solid amount of frustration and things like that that lead up to the happiness you see in my videos hahaha. Even in between takes of me recording. Can’t be happy all the time - it’s all about balance!
Anyone know what type of ride that is? I saw in another video he had a Zildjian A custom, but this is definitely a different ride and I absolutely love the sound it makes.
So happy you feel that way! It’s the Sabian Paragon ride. I’m pretty sure they had/have a brilliant version and a non-brilliant version and if so then this one is the non-brilliant version. Designed by Neil Peart himself. In terms of non-crashable rides (it weighs 8+ pounds) it’s hands down the best one out there. Crazy articulation and definition and the bell is amazing on it.
@@KyleMcGrail wow! Thank you so much! I’m a huge Crüe fan and watch all your Motley covers. I try to play them myself (not even close to as good as you!) but my K custom hybrid just doesn’t sound very good for those types of songs. I’m going to have to check it out. Keep rockin! Your videos kick ass! 🤟🏻
well done Kyle - I love YYZ, Rush and all drumming by Neil Peart. Its hard to tell (my bad eyes) but are you using double base pedals on your kick drum)
Kyle love the chops my bro but the business drowned out the beauty of the drive…Neil was very versatile but always with pocket enjoyed listening to Hot for teacher rendition!
Hiya Kyle, unrelated but how do you develop consistent fast kick drum speed. I keep going back to your “territorial pissings” cover and I really can’t crack down the technique, would you be able to explain?
I’m thinking about making some videos on things like this soon. The best piece of advice I can think to give in text is to work on the medium tempos. Like take the tempo that feels easy to you and work between that up to about 80% of your goal tempo. To me kick technique can be a person to person thing (slide, swivel, heel-toe etc.). And just working on these moderate tempos a lot will let you sort out what feels natural to you. And especially that 80% area is where you’ll really get a feel for it and eventually you’ll try that goal tempo and it’ll be there. Hope that makes sense. And like I said stay tuned because I may be releasing some videos on topics like this in the near future.
@@KyleMcGrailalright, I believe I understand. Come to think of it when learning a groove I only ever learn it at 10% to understand the feel, then I just put it to 100% until I get it right. Works most of the time but I assume with high tempos like territorial this simply isn’t a viable method. I’ll give it a go, thank you so much, I appreciate it.
@@KyleMcGrailalso those videos would be great. Stuff like technique and efficiency is something I always worry I could improve on, id be sure to watch all of the guides you upload 🤘

That’s such an incredible compliment to receive. Thank you so much for the kind words!
💯
Not Neil peart?
@@ak_-zc4kb um, don't compare a mortal with a god, kthanks. Disrespectful.
Dude, why are you not in a band making millions? Wtf!?? You are pro material!
he is the tour drummer for a well known punk rock band, mod sun
And touring with Avril Lavigne ... killer 🤘🤘
I've heard this song hundreds of times and never really knew the bass drum was that busy. Fantastic job!!
Very true, pretty subtle on the recording I guess
It's not that busy on the original recording this is highly embellished but it's all good.
It's Neil Peart, everything is extremely complex lol
When Geddy doesn't have to sing shit gets interesting
the most precise snare work of all the covers I've seen on this...good work
Dude I love how you add your own flavor to your covers but still play the song flawlessly! Amazing tribute to the professor himself, Neal Peart 🤘
Wow this is absolutely amazing! Really brings back great memories of Neil. You managed to perfectly capture the actual spirit of this song. Well done!
Dude is a beast!!!
I'm so glad there are people still playing this song! This is the best YYZ cover I've seen in a while. Stay Rocking my dude 👊
Dude!! That cymbal clutch @1:32 was soooo sick!

Was waiting for some more Rush, excited for this one
You beat those drums like they owe you money, AKA with conviction! Outstanding tribute to the legend himself. He would be proud!
Just getting the fix of watching it is amazing enough but to know a drum legacy like Neil Peart drumming is holding it's place strong , that just means everything. Great job.👍🎼🥁
All I was trying to was to find a mistake on your beats to Neil Peart and I couldn't find none!........You're a beast!

Fantastic, Kyle! Great drum track to perform! Nice to see Neil lives on through you.
you're looks alike Yanni (Giannis Chrysomallis). same enthusiasm while performing
Oh my God, how can I describe this perfection?
Extremely skilled and having a blast! It must be heavenly to play the drums like this.
Wow! Incredible talent.
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Another masterful cover. 🔥🔥🔥

This song is the reason I started drumming, your video motivates me to keep at it and maybe I can one day sound as half as good as this cover does!
Honestly never though I’d be able to play this one myself. I’ve been at it a while at this point. Just gotta keep chipping away!
Killer as always, keep it up!
The groove in the solo section just goes so hard, good shit
Sick dude.....Sooooo totally sick!
That snare sounds killer, like somebody slaps me in the face every 2 and 4 and I like it
Amazing dude...Great job you rock!
Snare sounds great. Would love to see a video of your setup someday and the gear you use.🤟

You should do Spirit of the Radio!
Awesome job. What is your snare?
Was the track playing just bass and guitar? Your drumming sounded exactly like the vinyl with Neal.
Great cover of that song. Goes to show, that you don't need a 18 piece kit to get the same sound. Good job.
