- I don't know if there's a worse way for a team to lose a series. Just a total collapse by what was supposedly the best team in the league, starting earlier in the series and culminating in a blown 25-point lead. If I'm a Jazz fan right now, I'm going into hiding. No internet, DEFINITELY no social media, probably not going outside even. Just cowering in a closet with the lights off, pretending to be dead (I call this the "coffin game", it's very therapeutic when life starts getting you down), and thinking about how accurate everyone was when they were comparing my team of high-end role-players to the 2014-15 Hawks.
But at least the 2014-15 Hawks got dominated by LeBron. The 2020-21 Jazz got dominated by frickin' Terance "Mannheim Steamroller" Mann.
The last time Mann scored this many points was in high school. Probably. He certainly never scored this many points in the NBA (where his high was 25) or in college (where his high was 30), but I can't actually find any reference to him scoring more points than this in high school either. Maybe he dominated some AAU games or something? Or maybe, just maybe, this is the most points he's EVER scored in a single game. EVER. And in a clinching game 6 against the number 1 seed, coming back from a huge deficit without his team's superstar to help him out, leading his team to the conference finals even though his team is literally cursed for ALL TIME to never make the conference finals.
Typed all out like that, damn. I'd say that ESPN needs to make a 30 for 30 on this, but I don't really trust them to do this justice. DownToBuck may not have much of a budget, but he has a flair for storytelling, and I bet I could make something just as good. It would end up being around four minutes long, and it would basically be just a compilation of all of his buckets along with the live commentary from the game, including Mike Breen's "BANG!". Yeah, people would definitely watch something like that.
I don't think the Jazz exactly realized what was happening until it was too late. They left Mann pretty wide open on some of his early shots in order to neutralize some of the Clippers' more potent threats (like... Reggie Jackson?????), which I guess kind of makes sense (except that's what the Bucks have done the past few years and it always results in horrible losses at the most inopportune times), but once he got to like 20 or 25, that's when you start playing some defense on him. Instead, they just let the Mannheim Steamroller steamroll their stupid role-player butts into the hardwood.
It seems like I ask this question a lot (usually in reference to the Toronto Raptors), but now I have to ask it once again: who even needs Kawhi?

I'm a huge Florida St Seminole fan and watched Terance his four years at FSU. First - he's an unselfish player - a coaches son. He always had the talent but deferred to the stars. Now, like Paul George said after the game - that they kept yelling at him to shoot more - and damn if he finally did it in the most incredible fashion. Way to go Terance!
