lyrics:
I am down the road and up the hill
I wait for you still
wires around my fingers
potentially lovely
perpetually human
suspended and open
open...
I am through the woods and past the trains
I wait here in vain
scrubbing out the stains again
potentially lovely
perpetually human
suspended and open
open...
open up and up your eyes and then...
in a night the snow starts falling
and everybody stares
through their windows at the streetlights
too beautiful to see
I am in a room I've built myself
four stray walls
one floor, one ceiling
and day after day I wake up feeling...
potentially lovely
perpetually human
suspended and open
open...
How can you talk when such a beautiful piece is being played by such an adorable artist? I don't understand the human race.
Who could have thought the word "open'" would ever be so breathtaking?
Poetic , tender and raw .
Music is richer for her.
this song gives me goosebumps.. everytime..
This song is actually called Open, it's in her new album, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats, released this year. Regina Spektor is amazing.
this song speaks to me, and for me... so much.
Open! Love this song and this album
@IAintOverYet I WANTED TO GO TO THAT SO BADLY. It was on my birthday, in my favourite city. Unfortunately, it would be too expensive to get me there . . .
It's pretty upsetting that some of the people who were there weren't appreciative of such talent. Regina is just. So. Wonderful. Why can't everyone see that?
I was to her concert in copenhagen 2010! oh my... wish she would come back best concert i ever been to! But i would wish that i could have sit down, her music isn't something you listen to standing..
This song is actually called down the road and up the hill. You can find it on the white sessions..
Ahh I Love Regina Spektor!!3
DEAR LORD BACKGROUND AUDIENCE! If she starts to sing louder doesn't mean for you to get louder! She has a beautiful voice and yet they are probably talking about what they had for dinner or their plans tomorrow, or the cutest thing their cat did that morning... Anyways I love her and her music!
Yep I know. At the time it was more unknown so I wan't sure of the name, thanks though.:)
Some of the crowd at the charity event at the MoMA this March was the same way...they talked the entire time (visit my page for all the songs I recorded that night). Not everyone was there to see her perform, and it was quite evident. But that does not excuse outright rudeness. She politely asked them to keep it down (not necessarily in those words) several times, but to no avail. And she was not drunk. I'm sure deep down she was hurt, but she went on with the show for those who love her music.
@poorusernamechoice That's good to hear. She's a really driven person & stands up for herself as you say. Perfect balance and she's gorgeous too.
yeah the audience is being disrespectful but i think it makes the song all the more poetic and really adds something cool to the recording, gotta say i like it better than the studio version
She has the most beautiful voice ever.. Shes amazing!!! Just brought her album.. Can't wait till Chrsitmas untill i get it :D
Favourite pic of hers.
@ASliceOfWonderBread oh my god I'm so freaking excited!!
@Lukas9314 She has performed in South America, so you do have a shot at seeing her (you're just gonna have to travel to the mainland when she does come).
This song is all about love
@zonalGman92 Actually, I just heard saw a performance of her where the audience was being loud, and I think she was a bit drunk because she just stopped and said in her cute little voice, "hey will you shut up?" It made my day.
I've heard this song called as "Open" and "Down the Road and Over the Hill". Kinda reminds me of Sword & Pen in the beginning piano part.
@anniethesponge I was actually in Finland right after she played there and in Prague right before she played there :( Talk about bad luck!
The first day after I moved, I woke up at 11:11 from Regina's Songs. The Live In London is better than the Live At Bull Moose, because the Soviet Kitsch is Far away. So I could finally Begin To Hope that What We Saw From The Cheap Seats was just an illusion...
Loamo!!! Sooo tutta bella:):):) "Chin Chin" Chente Anni Salute Ciao:):):)
This is awesome, though you missed out Mary Ann meets the gravediggers and other short stories... but I guess that's a little hard to fit into a normal sentence haha ;)
♥♥♥ MOLODEZ !!!
Will someone please do a tutorial of this PHENOMENAL Song!!!!!
This is also known as "Down The Road", you may find a better version under that name.
This reminds me of "Prelude in B Minor" by Chopin. Yes, for sure.
@maryann121 New album next year!!!!! Hopefully she will be touring.
Oui, je suis d'accord, elle est chouette. :)
This is a beautiful song & the audience does seem somewhat disrespectful of her. I've heard that Joni Mitchell has just walked off if the audience is too busy having a chat at the bar or chatting someone up to listen to her play, but I guess she is already such a legend she can get away with it. But I think it is ill mannered to talk when the artist is playing. If u wanna do that go outside.
This is a wonderful song, as are most of her songs, but these comments about not talking while she is playing almost seems contrary to what Regina so eloquently conveys in her music. Be free have fun. No one is disrespecting or disrupting her performance and it seems no more distracting than all the people who just have to use their phones to capture video of the show and post it on youtube ;) If you get lost in her music you dont even hear the background noise. Dont let others bring you down.
The gasping scares the hell out of me.
i fucking love this picture of her.
you could call it that, or down the road and up the hill....which is its name
@anniethesponge We french people can also sit and hope... we never see her either!
I am down the road and up the hill.
Shame on the two people who disliked.
@anniethesponge try living in Chiloé ... I will neer see her!
PD: Look up in a map and try to find Chiloé.
@GermanSailfish I want that framed.
@maryann121 try living in Ireland! I'll never see her! :(
When I got it, I thought it was called "Down the Road and Up the Hill" and like that title best.
When was this played?
she's never coming to india. :(
I'm not totally sure if she ever actually called it this, someone just told me she did. Yes I'm an irresponsible uploader haha.
This song is called open, not open up your heart.
WHY ARE PEOPLE TALKING?! SHUSH.
@goofysmartypants God I know! I've never had the chance to see her where I live, I wouldn't waste a second or be so disrespectful if I possibly could! Grrr.. lol.
@anniethesponge Same deal here. Canada :(
Let's just say compilations don't count ;)
Regina, come to Canada and sing. We're very polite.
Okay, great for you. Don't spoil the song by pointing out gasping
