Turn on the captions and join us on a walking tour to Praia Formosa (Formosa beach) - the longest beach on Madeira Island, Portugal. It is midway between Funchal Lido and the stunning bay of Câmara de Lobos, and so is an ideal place to stop and catch a drink or bite to eat while watching the waves roll in. We begin our walk just below The Forum shopping centre in the Lido area of Funchal.
We walk along the picturesque coast before settling down at one of the many sea front cafes. This Madeira Island walking tour was filmed in January 2021. No narration or music, just the natural sights and sounds of the Madeiran coast.

The beach area is now different. We don't have those plastics anymore. Instead, they built a concrete walkway, and the little cabin at the end is now open as a beach bar and it is awesome! Also just behind the bar, they are building a new Pestana CR7 thing.

Yes the ‘Hotel Baia Azul’ was great; helpful staff, good sea view rooms, fine dining and giant flower displays all over the place 💐💐 . The first time we stayed there, walking back into town was by way of farmer’s fields sloping down to the coast, and there was very little development out beyond the hotel. I don’t want to give the impression that I’m accident prone… but I remember them supplying me with numerous packets of frozen peas for my sprained ankle 🦵 😝 !! Great that you are heading back soon👍. We found it warm enough to swim, but not everyone would I guess. It can really vary in January.

Yes, it is cold in North Idaho. Seen worse weather. It is 48 degrees outside. That is warm for this time of year.
I went and videoed the Christmas Tree Lighting in Sandpoint. Did not turn out too well. Christmas lights in Sandpoint are nothing compared to some cities. We are a small town. Not a large budget to decorate for Christmas.

We've still had autumn leaves and warm sunshine in our part of blighty until yesterday when a storm suddenly blew the leaves from the trees and it plummeted to -1! I saw your footage of the Christmas lights, it's hard to capture low light steadily without a gimbal we've found that too, but I thought you captured the atmosphere which I thought was happy and charming. I'm getting to love your little characterful town.

Are any of the beaches on Madeira sandy beaches or are they all stoney beaches like we see at the 20:45 mark?
Hi BS, there's a couple of sandy beaches but most are stoney, you can find sandy beaches in Calheta, Machico, Prainha and Seixal.
Is this where the rockfall was or is that further on?
Hi Ray, yes the rockfall was onto the promenade, in this area near the Orca Praia Hotel.

Hi Saied, we have been in November and December and it can vary very much. Sometimes it can be sunny but it can also be rainy, generally it is mind though, between 16 - 21 degrees average. I like the weather this time of year and it's really very festive in December. I'd recommend it. Flying time is around 2 hours from Lisbon.
