- The twelve bells of Christ Church Cathedral hang in a separate tower to the cathedral, above the famous fan vaulting. The bells are a very old style twelve with a tenor weighing 31cwt (1585kg) in D dating from 1589, cast by an unknown founder. Some people say the Cathedral's bells are dire but I disagree. They're characterful and not run of the mill like bland modern Taylor rings of twelve.
Beautiful bells!
They are nice! Not many people like them - spoilt by modern Taylor rings - but at least these have character.
Interested to know where you mean by ‘bland modern Taylor 12s’?
Cornhill in London is one of them - the front eleven have hardly any resonance compared to the tenor.
Ringer Jake although these becoming a bit tedious after 3 hours!
What's the weight of the tenor?
Where's the great tom?
He's in a separate tower.
