I like how close his prediction was too the actual movie, and yet just missed it, compared to his previous theorys, he's gotten more accurate.
Well remember at the end they said the rings are wayyy older than we were told, and the way space and irl time travel (lightyears) work it could very well belong to alien. Or dragon. Or alien dragon.. just not the one in the movie. I dont think they were a dragons rings necessarily but they had to come from somewhere
the post credit scene basically confirms that fing fang foom is coming so matpat isnt 100% wrong although he is wrong in places.

@@adairjahueypaz4051 in the comics the rings belonged to the same race as fing fang foom so if I was to guess and I'm pretty confident about my guess that fing fang foom will receive said beacon and come to earth to fight whoever.

Just finished watching Shang Chi, MatPat is wrong but also kinda right. Id still give him the W on this one.
This theory could still be right, the end credit scene showed that the rings were made of some unknown material that not even Wong recognized. It could turn out to be, just like Mat said, alien technology or something similar
They don't end up explaining the orgins of the rings. Only thing he got wrong is the Great Protector has nothing to do with it. He did guess big dragon like bad guy though.

In the 90's, there was an Iron Man story where they revealed the Mandarin's rings were made by Fin Fang Foom's people. So there's that.

Funny enough in Marvel comics there is character named Kei Kawade whose power is literary creating or summoning and controlling Kaiju and that kid interacted with spiderman.

This is probably the closest theory that Matpat has ever gotten on a Marvel film
seeing this after i saw the movie: he nailed it (exept for the fin fang foom part, its actually a good and different dragon)
I love the restraint Marvel is showing in their character designs. The comics had a guy with two blades instead of hands, but the movie has a guy with only ONE blade for a hand. Moderation at its finest.

A Shang Chi LEGO set that’s already been released literally features Fin Fang Foom in it, the funko pop was also leaked, and a lyric of the song in the trailer is You Woke up the Dragon so yeah I’m pretty sure we r getting Fin Fang Foom as a big villain in the movie who probably created the ten rings.

or the mandarin stole the rings from him which put him out of his power and thats why the trailer says wake up the dragon they need to wake him up so that they have a chance at defeating the dragon
FFF is also from space which ties this movie to the more cosmic stuff happening in phase 4
A LOT of this was talked about in the Iron Man Armored Adventure: the 10 rings were the Makluan rings, the possessor of said rings was the Mandarin, etc.

I really love that version of the Mandarin, that it was a title passed down for generations to the leader of that group. And the son Gene Khan surpassed his father, and later by the end of the show became an ally to Iron Man instead of an enemy.

And none of them are canon to the main MCU Timeline except for Agent Carter (because the actor of Edwin Jarvis is there and Kevin Feigi produced it) and probably Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (I’m not sure if it’s canon or non canon since the Darkhold already appeared in that show before WandaVision and Agnes has the Dakrhold for over thousands years).

Fun fact: in the 90's Iron Man cartoon, Fin Fang Foom was the original owner of the ten rings that the Mandarin wore, so there is precedent for this theory.
Marvel has been known to take inspirations from cartoons as well, like the Iron Man: Armored Adventures cartoon where the Rescue Armor is purple instead of red, Ultimate Spider-Man where he gets recruited by Nick Fury (though that happens in the 1610 comics too)
Also in iron man armored adventures I believe they dont call them the 10 rings but instead the makluan rings

That honestly isn’t a big bother, your high school biology class will tell you that a crossbred with children needs a minor similarity in genes. Now if this crossbreed action outputs something that can have children, that would be more confusing.
Basically it isn’t impossible for two different animals to have children. Albeit rare. It makes sense that a lion and a tiger can have a infertile child however it starts to become iffy when some like a zebra and a lion have a child. Genetics is everything I guess.

Honestly you wouldn't even necessarily need the toy leak to confirm the five fingers. Chinese dragons are depicted with 5 whereas Japanese dragons are depicted with 3.
That’s actually probably a representation of the relationship between China and Japan in pre-modern times rather than a cultural thing. Five fingered dragons are associated with the emperor of China. As a tributary state, you would never co-opt the imagery of the emperor of the state you (in name only/symbolically) are a subject of.
Actually there is a show with the mandarin where they made pepper pots have the ring and not be useless and when the rings deem the owner worthy they send a beacon to a alien race called the makilan or something and they come down to earth.

Action intensive scenes are like special effects, they cost a lot of resources to do well, that's why action and special effect heavy stuff are rarely done well on TV.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!! MatPat predicted the plot very well but was just a little off with the names. The BIG bad was indeed a giant dragon-like creature although it was never confirmed in the movie where the rings originated. The first end credit scene hints at this but just says that they act like a beacon soooo there’s still a chance MatPat is right about Fin Fang Foom.

Edit: I looked around a little bit and while it is Wikipedia, it does say film multiple times leading me to believe it is a *movie* also if you search Google for "is shang chi a movie or show" it will give you the character then under movies, "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" as well as "Fist of Fury II" (on mobile at least)

The most satisfying thing is watching old trailer theories and seeing how close they are to the actual movie.

In the comics the Ten Rings powered the ship that Fin Fang Foom used to come to Earth so it makes sense that they would be dragon-alien sized.
It doesn't. In the comics they were size- changing, hence why the Mandarin could wear them.

This is incrdibly accurate
The Ten Rings' lore is actually related to dragons. They are said to be rings worn by fallen warriors of a dragon race called Makluans. Mandarin got hold of the rings from a crashed Makluan spaceship, where they were being used to power the spaceship. The Makluans are attributed to be the reason behind old England and Chinese legends about dragons. In the comics, if Mandarin uses the rings for extended periods of time, his arm becomes scaly and dragon-like.

I was so hyped when I first heard of the mandarin as one of my first exposures was the original I am Iron Man cartoon show with that Mandarin and I loved the idea of the rings to collect and use. Hearing this here really get's my hopes up for a movie I would have otherwise ditched and watched the summary of as I was SURE the ten rings would just be the mcguffin without the actual fun Mandarin behind them. Hope you're right MatPat!

I read a comic about fing fang foom once and it talked about how Mandarin basically controlled the Dragon with the rings (No not the bracelets of doom the actual rings) and he lost control when one of the rings was removed or something like that. Well, there was a dragon, but it definitely wasn't the bid baddie. In fact it was literally the yang to the big baddie's yin (yes, there was obvious references to that concept with the Great Protector in the way he appears just before the Dweller in Darkness and goes back to sleep after it's defeated).
Also, the origin on the rings was kicked down the road, so we'll have to wait and see how MatPat did on that theory.
