First of all. Your graphics are great. Second of all. What I always find very interesting is that the elite veterans of the Macedonian army used shorter spears. And secondly, Philip II spent a fortune drilling his army. Because using such a cumbersome weapon required extensive training in order to be used to any effective degree.
Good video. The only thing is when it came to the Phalanx being vulnerable on the flanks and rear Alexander the Great and Philip put a unit known as the Hypaspists or Shield Bearers in English on the vulnerable flanks. The Shield Bearers didn't have the supper long Sarissa spear. They had much shorter 7 foot long spears. They were much more mobile and flexible than the Sarissa Phalanx and that's why Alexander and Philip put them on the flanks. Their job was to protect the vulnerable flanks and rear of the Sarissa Phalanx. They were also entirely veteran soldiers. They were very disciplined, battle hardened soldiers that really knew what they were doing. The use of archers, Peltasts, and light infantry also helped the Sarissa Phalanx as well as it allowed the Macedonian infantry to attack from a far distance. Alexander the Great's combined arms is what made his army so good. His use of heavy infantry, light infantry, heavy cavalry, light cavalry, and artillery is what made his army so effective. All the different types of units complimented each other. The later Greek generals failed to use this combined arms approach effectively. They didn't use the Hypaspists anymore. They were too reliant on the Sarissa Phalanx and that exposed the weaknesses of it and the Romans were able to take advantage of that.

The graphics were just stolen from the Kings and Generals channel. Not his graphics.

Nice video ✨
🤠👍🏿
Nice one.
Interesting but I thought it was only 8 men deep. As you say, it was very rare for the enemy to penetrate further than the fifth rank.
Brilliant , cheers.!
