    This wasn't about leaving a place where your from... This is about moving on in a relationship between friends. This has happened to me a few times in my life with a couple of buddies of mine.... One left for a technical school out of state, and that night at the bar as we were talking about the past, I knew after that night, I would never see him again..That was twenty years ago... I relocated for work and as I was loading up the moving truck to leave, the last of my good friends helped me pack... I knew I would never see them again either... That was seventeen years ago.... Now, with a wife and a kid, a house and a dog, I look back and just smile at the good times we had...

    You know this hits me somewhere I didn't expect. I was always the weaker of a duo of friends. Always looked so far up to this kid that I thought I couldn't even see how high he was. After highschool the best of friends that would spend months at each other's homes like brothers split up. I joined the Army, he went towards music. I survived multiple wars, in more theaters than I can count and now have a home and family that I love. All those years and still today I claim that success from the drive I found from looking up to this young man throughout my childhood.
    I ran into him last year. Hopping from house to house, struggling to stand but still holding his chin up high regardless with that same spirit if a bit darkened. I invited him to come stay at my home for a night, meet my children and my wife and we talk for hours over some of the nicer of my bottles of bourbon until I admit to him what I hadn't ever said. That he had been my only real hero, the only person I ever aspired to be. That I saw in him as a child a fearless leader that I aspired to and still aspire to be. Idk if it was the time, the drinks, or just all of it crashing but my friend let out a tear and and said to me that I was the one he has been looking up to for some time. Thanks to social media he could see my experiences and the places I've been to and my life.
    I've only ever had one friend my entire life. Only one. I haven't seen him now since then, but I hope he is doing well. This story helped me to realise the importance in that. And I think, after this, I'm going to reach out to him again. Thank you. Thank you so much.

    • @adequatequality
      @adequatequality 3 года назад +51

      @MR-FREEZE 98 Well, "staying behind" directly implies not moving forward regardless of whether it was your choice or not. Never grow accustom to mediocrity especially when you have the talent to make it far in life. The moral of the story is the difference between someone who chose to move forward and the other who seems "ok" with staying behind but obviously regrets his life decisions.

    • @JonBernard41
      @JonBernard41 3 года назад +14

      Define "better place".
      When your community is fractured, it becomes (more) vulnerable - weakened.
      Moving to white spaces and places does not equal acceptance.
      Nor achievement.
      Think BIGGER.
      Your money welcome, but your presence is tolerated.
      You will always be seen as 'other'.
      Clearer heads are needed.
      Purchasing their homes...their goods, benefits them.
      NOT you.
      Or your people.
      Think.
      Money is energy.
      Be careful WHO you give your energy to.

Not a lot of people can claim they had friends like this and even less when the going gets tough. Cherish your friends, people. That laugh or fight you had years ago could very be your last moment with them and vice versa.

Drink, smoke, till I hit 20 and started to realize people who do this for too much longer...aren’t the type of people that go anywhere...so I started to tell them what they needed to hear, not what they wanted to hear. Filling them in on what we COULD be doing, and soon it seemed more like they resented the small success I had. I never threw scripts in their face. Just knew I wanted to change and I wanted them to change with me. 21 years old hits, and well, they’ll always be in my heart, but that part of my life is over. It’s almost time for me to move out of my mums place. Found me a really good college educated girl who helps me be a better me. Someone I’d never found being in that kinda environment. Not that I depend on her. I keep a steady cash flow and soon my college education will help get me a great income to start something more towards a family lifestyle position or at least prepared for my later 20’s. I’m still that 19 year old who wants to smash a couple bottles and trap...in spirit, but there’s more to life than that. Friends like that are once in a life time. What people don’t realize about adult friendships are that they’re a lot like relationships. Yea, some people can maintain that “effortless” chemistry but for many, as you grow into adults and step more into your own responsibilities your priorities largely shift. You have to make a conscious effort to maintain the friendship or else it can easily slip away. Do not let anyone convince you that just because you two no longer have the time to sit around and banter as much that you’re automatically “going separate ways”. The same goes for relationships. Sometimes it just takes effort. But ofc in some situations you may want to leave a certain person behind if you feel as if they have no desire to change and their lifestyle can make a negative impact on you, like in this video.

    I loved young Jude. He was such a lover of life-expressive and happy. Wish he could have stuck to football and perhaps succeded? Growing up I was a (female) version of Isaac. Wish I could have been more free though or rebellious. Lol. Life is too short. The degree and white collar job doesn't always translate into happiness. And success can also come in non-traditional or non-linear ways. Kudos Abraham Adeyemi. You moved all of us deeply with your story. And your actors are all amazing. I really liked the camerawork as well. Looking forward to your next films!

    Getting left behind sucks. I have a friend who’s an Olympian, another who owns a business overseas, and another who’s a squad lead in Afghanistan. When you are surrounded by greatness and left like that, it leaves you bitter, jealous, but still proud. Not a good feeling.

      Find something that you enjoy and good at! You say your jealous of the friend who joined the army and the friend who runs a business - are these anything you ever wanted to do? Also, if you don’t want to get ‘left behind’ you have to be prepared to take risks. I was the friend who was ‘left behind’. I changed careers and stated over - it was huge risk as I didn’t have anything to fall back on if it failed. All worked out, much happier now - good luck to you.

    The broken speech between the two men conveys a distance between them. This is empahsised as we can see younger forms of them in the scene which shows how they have not met for a long-time, thus presenting a significant distance in their relationship.

The other stays back in the cave for fear of change and wishes to live with what they were familiar with.

    This put things into perspective for me. I’ve always been told I’m talented with music. Always came up with hooks and could spit crazy when I smoked some loud. But now I’m older and I still have those dreams at 25. But I have a wife and two sons. I see things differently. As bad as I want those dreams just like this young boy in here. I can’t keep chasing. There comes a time when you have to lay some things to rest no matter how talented everyone says you are. Some things just ain’t meant to be. And I understand that now more then ever. I’m currently working on my GED and already passed two tests. Now I have math and science to go. And then I’m gonna get into the Union to be a plumber and hopefully be able to own my own business one day. I want to provide for my wife and children. I will always be a dreamer but I know now some things ain’t meant to be. I normally don’t share things on RUclips comment sections. But this short film showed me a mirror and I couldn’t help but say something. I pray I pass these tests. I suck at math so bad and I’m hoping science can be checked off. I’m trying and ima try harder. This is an amazing film and one full of truth at that. I wish anybody going through any type of realizations in life, I wish you luck, blessings and love from the bottom of my heart. Keep your heart deep and your mind strong. Be patient. Your time will come. I love all of you.
