Thanks so much for bringing Sugimoto's work to our attention. He definitely is no One Trick Pony. The amount and diversity of his work make me feel like such a slacker! ;-)
How fun! Love that you branched out. I had no idea about Sugimoto, but mind blown. The movies in one shot is totally wild. "The rest is a technical problem." Plus the fact he snuck the camera in? That part is nuts. Although, on RUclips at least, all the screens just look plain white. My friend Geo once said (in the halls of the AP headquarters in New York), "A picture is the perfect capture of a moment that never happened." I've never forgotten it. Moriyama loved to take photos of other people's work, and this stuff, like the wax figures, feels like an even deeper move on this. So fascinating. Makes me think even more on how some cultures view appropriating art versus others. (Like how litigious the US tends to be.)
I’ve been to a few photography specific museums and they always have plenty of rules regarding photographing the work compared to other art museums. It’s always weird to me.
I had to look that up. It's unclear, but sounds like an option on a view camera to extend the bellows past what would be infinite focus, to then show the scene out of focus.
^this. I’m pretty sure it’s a doubling of what the infinity focus distance is. It’s somewhat similar to when you go to infinity focus on a lens and push it “beyond infinity” and he made the “twice infinity” term up as a catchy/odd thing to say.
Okay, I get the purity of the end result from endless hours of shooting and editing. The same effect can be achieved by masking and editing the movie screen in post production.
Man, I seriously love your videos about these photographers. The way you present visually and with your voice-over is superb. Please keep making them!
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words 🙌
Great channel and explanation of an exceptional photographer/thinker. Always enjoy your vids 👍
I appreciate you 🫡
I love the street photographers videos, however making this move is greatly appreciated. Sugimoto's work is stunning, Keep em coming !
Thank you, will do 🫡

You’re welcome. You and me both in that regard

Researching Sugimoto’s stuff really did make me realize how much I’ve limited the possibilities of what I do or do not take photos of.
@@developingtank - same! now I'm thinking of shooting some long exposure today to see what I get. See? I'm always smarter from hanging out with you.
@ChrisBrogan hell yeah 👍

Always enjoy you photographer reviews! Simple, visual and to the point!
I appreciate your comments as always, thank you!
Astonishing, truly visionary work.
It’s crazy that one person could make so much diverse work.
What a mind and what a thinker. I can stare at the theatre images endlessly almost falling into that white void of time and motion.
100%
Thank you 🙏
You’re welcome 🫡
The guy was a high level thinker.
Truly. He really made me reconsider how much deeper I could go on any photo project.
What is twice infinity?
