I close my eyes & it's 50+ years ago & I'm in my parents living room, listening w/ them to the Broadway soundtrack. Priceless! Thank you, Vera, for keeping the memory alive.
Yes, he had a big and beautiful voice, but he was able to sing tenderly. He loved lyrics and always interpreted the song accordingly in order to tell a story. He would have been very happy that you recognized that quality. Vera Goulet
These songs are so great to hear, and best of all, they never go out of style! The same for Robert - he never goes out of style, either. Thanks so much for posting these classics, Vera!
I always admired Mr. Goulet's voice. During his peak on Broadway and Las Vegas I was only an adolescent and did not have the expertise and knowledge to appreciate his wonderful voice. However, when older, I did realize how technical and exemplary his voice was. He had a powerful stentorian voice and he was trained the old fanshioned way: to project to the audience. He had a wonderful stage presence. We just don't see that type of talent now.
Lyrics: If ever I would leave you - It wouldn't be in summer. Seeing you in summer - I never would go. Your hair streaked with sun-light - Your lips red as flame Your face with a lustre - That puts gold to shame! But if I'd ever leave you - How could it be in autumn. How I'd leave in autumn - I never would know. I've seen how you sparkle - When fall nips the air. I know you in autumn - And I must be there. And could I leave you running, merrily through the snow Or on a wintry evening - When you catch the fire's glow If ever I would leave you - How could it be in spring-time Knowing how in spring I'm bewitched by you so Oh, no! not in spring-time - summer, winter or fall! No, never could I leave you - at all!
My God is Mr. Goulet gorgeous and talented😭 Men these days just aren't this way anymore. What a shame!

The one, the only, the original and still the BEST interpretation of this song.

Lyrics:
If ever I would leave you - It wouldn't be in summer.
Seeing you in summer - I never would go.
Your hair streaked with sun-light - Your lips red as flame
Your face with a lustre - That puts gold to shame!
But if I'd ever leave you - How could it be in autumn.
How I'd leave in autumn - I never would know.
I've seen how you sparkle - When fall nips the air.
I know you in autumn - And I must be there.
And could I leave you running, merrily through the snow
Or on a wintry evening - When you catch the fire's glow
If ever I would leave you - How could it be in spring-time
Knowing how in spring I'm bewitched by you so
Oh, no! not in spring-time - summer, winter or fall!
No, never could I leave you - at all!
