my little brother committed suicide while deployed in Germany. he was constantly bullied by the other soldiers and was scared he would've been bullied for going to therapy. I wrote same after his death in 2011 and was responded to. his music helped me through so much if that time. thank you for your support.

This shit hits home. I graduated from HS in '02, and MANY of my peers signed on the dotted line shortly after graduation. I wasn't quite old enough yet, and moved away to another state with my family before I turned 18. Had we (I) stayed, I'd have likely signed up too. Fast forward to 2016, while most of them made it home, they'll NEVER be the same again. Ever. Now that I understand Smedley Butler was right, I feel immensely lucky. Today when I see military marketing rhetoric, I can't take it. Seeing young kids enlist makes me very sad.
Keep doing your thing and I'll see you when you're in Detroit again……er, Pontiac.

I had to listen to this song twice. The first time I was so drawn into the video I didn't even comprehend the lyrics. The second time, I once again realized how amazing Sage is. One of my favorite rappers, and easily one of the best of all time. He tells a story through poetry with rhythm. Incredible. Amazing work

Damn. Heavy. Love this. At first I thought it was about a family and drugs. But as I watched more I saw its meaning. Regardless it has been a while since I have heard sage I enjoy. I know every artist progresses differently and enjoys different things with age. But dear sage thank you yet again for a jam worth standing behind. You will always be dear to my heart sage. Thank you.

Thanks for everything! You are one of the greatest modern day poets, from makeshift patriot to make em purr and everything you do. This is what true music is in my opinion. One of my dreams is to do a song with Sage Francis (if you happen to read this, is there a price for a song available?), what a frikkin legend, folks. Since I started studying poetry I saw this music in a whole new light. There is a lot going on here poetically in everything he does. Similies, metaphors, subtext , fascism, classism, Marxism. Reshaped the way I look at rap and literature. Thanks for everything

Beautiful... While showing the duality of the pain that remains in those who are misled into becoming dutiful, my time served with forced indentured servitude was in comparison mutable. Practicing unlicensed therapy to those I meet who are suffering, finding this video now posted last year is like some kind of long overdue delayed buffering... And as it gets colder and this flame continues to smolder, this once broken-winged bluejay continues to heal as according to some calendar she grows older. I refuse to age almost as much as I repel against being forced back into a cage, letting go of the rage is the only way I'm about to protect and stick out my neck for those who actually went overseas, agendas nothing close to any language they could pretend to perceive. Just as long as we continue to believe, always wearing our hearts on our sleeve, catching each possible sunset and never missing a chance to climb trees, this one human family still yields the capability to show a little humility, balance the ego and realize that by through transient unity nothing can withstand our combination collective conscious of valor, truth and somewhat staggered stability.
    All love and light...

I accidentally had this song come on while in the car driving back from hiking last weekend. My younger brother and one of his longtime friends where in the car. My brothers friend is currently doing his basic training to join the Australian army, I've known this kid for over a decade and his only dream in life has been to join the army and eventually special forces, both his parents are ex military. I had to chuckle at the irony of this coming on as it very much matches my feelings and thoughts.

It's best to separate the art from the artist, especially if the artist didn't do anything abhorrent. I disagree with Sage on somethings, but I totally respect where he comes from. I know it comes from a good place, and ultimately he's more than just a rapper. He's a human being. Btw, I've felt just like you with Sage, but I've come around.

Yeah I figured it was about PTSD and soldiers and what not, the reason I was confused was because of the first verse. It seemed to tell a bit of a different story rather than the 2nd and 3rd. That's what I confused about, but nonetheless made for a damn fine song. Told a story in itself.
