Hurricane Kirk - a strong fish major that later impacted Europe significantly. Whether it was a C5 or not, we can all agree it looked absolutely picturesque!
I mean it did impact people! While peaking, it did impact shipping routes, forced them to steer around Kirk, so It did technically affect people in a way
It's official. On November 27th, 2024, on the Live Worldwide Cyclone Tracker, Force Thirteen analysis upgraded Major Hurricane Kirk to Category 5 status, Also, They announced that daily tropical weather Bulletins (TWB's) will start once again on Tuesday, December 3rd 2024. More news around the tropics is that Tropical Storm 99B has formed in the Southern Bay of Bengal, expected to peak with 50mph winds (80km/h) and currently had 40mph winds (65km/h). In the Southwest Indian Ocean, Tropical Storm 03S has formed in the Central South Indian Ocean, expected to peak with winds of 65mph (105km/h) and currently has winds of 45mph (70km/h). And finally in the Eastern Pacific, there is a 20% Area of Interest (20% AOI). This comment was written at 11:46 AM EST, November 27th, 2024. If you are currently reading this, thank you. This is the Tropical Weather News (TWN). Thank you.
11th named, 7th hurricane, and 3rd major of the 2024 NATL season. Kirk peaked likely near 155mph in the open ocean, later went on to impact Europe quite significantly.
Kirk hit my city by creating a flash flood that ended up taking the lives of 3. Also, it was a very big surprise as the alert was on 1/3 but it rained around 50mm in 45mins, and the flood was enough to carry cars and severely damage roads at some places. I almost got late at school
1:44 Woah OTS CAT 5??? Woah Kirk is definitely needing to be upgraded but I would personally go with 155 mph and like 927 mb . 145 mph and 934 mb obviously is an underestimation of Kirk
So uh, I personally don't really agree with Kirk being C5. My analysis has it at 150-155 miles per hour, and the pressure at 929-928 millibars. But don't get me wrong, the satellite image is very impressive, 10x better than Lorenzo, but I just don't agree with Kirk being a category 5!
Kirk did reach T7.0 stature, however, it likely wasn’t sustained long enough, nor would it have mixed flight level winds to the surface in the time it likely peaked as a C5. In my opinion, force 13’s analysis in this instance is highly accurate, although when it comes down to official analysis, the NHC likely won’t agree with this depiction, as they usually stick to 6hr intervals. I personally, under a more official standpoint, agree with ~155mph 928mb… so I’m on a similar wavelength to you on this one.
@@monkeyhedo359 they’ve changed their standards since the new manager came in 2~ years ago. But also, storms closer to land are given much more frequent updates… hourly updates even.
@@davidpilotti370 it could have been, while i dont agree with it we can all agree that the NHC underestimated kirk. sometimes officials arent always right
Monsoon season in africa generates a lot of moisture and precipitation, which can happen on land too, kirk's precursor started on land as a lot of moisture and when it entered sea it became a tropical wave due to the hot oceans and then became what we see here.
Correct, it was a T7.0 solid, for about 3hrs. Which is a C5. However, official estimates typically abide to the “6hr rule” when it comes to tropical cyclone intensity. As a result of flight level winds taking a while to mix down to the surface, a short time span of 3hrs wouldn’t be long enough to mix down C5 winds, thus the NHC will remain it as a C4 unfortunately.
well eye aint really that good a indicator for how strong a hurricane is look at hurricane opal from 1995, peaked as a 150 mph cat 4 but did not had a eye at any point near her peak, and by looking at satellite video i dont even think she had a eye for her entire existence

I thought it was 4th major cause the last three was Beryl, Francine, and Helene.

@@SEANSHYPO Francine peaked at 100mph which is a cat 2, not 115mph, which is the requirement for a major.

CATEGORY 5! This was truly a record-breaking hurricane season.
Amazing animation force thirteen!!! Keep up the good work!
Ah yes, Kirk... one of those rare majors towards Europe. Similar to Lorenzo even
Kirk was a huge storm we just didn’t talk about it because of Helene and Milton
