@Truth Matters treasure it. We only get a limited time with grandparents don't we! My grandad used to get me history encyclopedia compendiums and supernatural type books. Others too but he knew which I enjoyed reading most. We went to a lot of antique fairs and such places and he'd always be looking out for interesting things to get for me. Spent lot of time with grandparents as they were so close like houses away. Until I was at high school really. Grandads are fkin awesome. As for this album by jeff wayne. my uncle got me a cd set of it one Christmas. He always gave me albums. Thankfully his music taste was is really good mostly punk and prog rock type bands like stranglers and the clash or some rowing stones even beatles albums. I was blessed with introduction to great artistic and literary offerings growing up. Some kids never get one single book or even a hint of music genre direction from parents etc. Sadly. Wayne's ward the world's adaptation will always sound great at any future time. As its a unique piece of art with no other even similar competing art.
I was barely 7 when I first heard this. It was terrifying and captivating all at the same time. And every time I listened to it, I wanted the Thunder child to win! Nothing really compares to the original, and as much as I love the re-boot, I would highly recommend listening to any of the originals that you haven't heard. Guys like David Essex, Justin Heyward and Phil Lynott don't come around all that often. And SIR RICHARD BURTON is the narrator. That's a mic drop right there. If you thought that 'The Spirit of Man' was good in the theatrical video, try listening to Julie Covington with Phil Lynotts as Nathaniel. He absolutely CRUSHES his part. You've gotta listen to the original! 🙂
The Thunderchild VS the Fighting Machine is the 1978 album cover and was painted by artist Michael Trim, who also designed the look of the Fighting Machines. I saw him in my local Art Gallery a few years ago. He was over the moon when I asked him for an autograph. He never gets recognized enough sadly.
However in the book, thunderchild’s boilers explode and it rams into the final tripod, destroying it And the Martians eventually died to bacteria and humans won
Yeah, this isn't the end of the story. There is a video of the whole show from the first tour. Check it out if you get the chance. I think it's called something like War if the World's live Original Cast. (They still couldn't bring back everyone from the 1978 album, but they did what they could.)
1) I have always had a fondness for awesome names. My list includes Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Arizona, and a ship listing from Gene Roddenberry's ANDROMEDA, which had a deep-space stand-off attack vessel called "Righteous Fist of Heaven". "Thunder Child", however, tops the list. 2) The whole scene of Thunder Child's last stand was that the Martian tripods could handily defeat the British fleet, which was arguably the most powerful in the world at the time the book was written. The sequence was written to raise a final hope that the fleet could contain them, only or it to be melted in the heat of multiple death rays. 3) Your reaction was awesome to behold. The first time I heard it, I wanted to cheer at the ironclad's initial success. You two actually did so! And you were heartbroken that this was a doomed mission. Your expressions were as authentic as it gets. 4) Subscribed!
THIS is my favourite song from this masterpiece. That said without the whole story it doesn’t make sense. So take the journey watch it all. Forget Tommy Cruise.
Only the ending to part 1. Its only halfway through War of the Worlds the end of this particular act. To get full effect and full story you need to listen to the whole album
Yeah, this was the conclusion to our journey (sharing some WotW with Jon, Dolly & all). It’s most definitely not the end of the story. Most of the music came from a live performance in London(?), except Forever Autumn. Justin’s voice is just too good so I had to throw in a version from when the song was first released. I hope it brought back memories for some, and is something surprisingly new to others. I’d seriously recommend seeking out the original recording and listening to the whole thing (I just picked out parts). The original is amazing. Richard Burton’s voice… :)
@@jonlight670 I honestly don't even know how to respond to this comment. I shared an apartment once with a drummer from a band... but Justin Hayward... lol. Yeah. I can't comprehend that....
You've heard spirit of man which is from the 2nd half of the album (this being the end of the first half) i think you will enjoy the creepyness of the track Dead London and the actual end...... maybe 😉
Great, genuine reactions! When you are done, please read the novel by H.G. Wells, the author/creator of "The Invisible Man," "The Time Machine," "The Island of Dr. Moreau," and others. While H.G. Wells' description of the Thunder Child didn't match any British ship at the time 100% (he took artistic license in creating a fictional warship), I have no problems with the animator showing what I believe to be a warship from a time after HMS Dreadnought took to the seas in 1906. The Thunder Child, as a seagoing weapon of war, represented man's fighting prowess in the 1800s the same way nuclear weapons do today. Readers of Wells' work in the 1890s were undoubtedly struck by his imagery, as Armored Cruisers and Protected Cruisers were seen as the supreme weapons of war. Years later, the 1953 "War of the Worlds" film showed the failure of man's supposedly "unbeatable" power when an A-bomb failed to even scratch the paint of three Martian fighting machines. In the 2005 film, the failure of humanity's might is seen when a single Martian machine walking over a hill takes on copters, tanks, jeeps, and soldiers--wiping them all out and rising triumphantly over the hill sheeted in the flaming debris of them all. Returning the novel, following the sinking of the Thunder Child in the book came a part called "The Earth Under the Martians." It was not pretty. That depressing part is also seen in the 1953 and 2005 films, and Wayne included it as well. Enjoy H.G. Wells and Jeff Wayne!
It's a pitty, that you didn't listen to the original 1978 Version with Richard Burton as narrator. It's not so "polished" and definitely much more impressive!
Wait. You listened to Spirit of Man before Thunderchild? 😳 That’s like reading the middle of a book then the start. This is a story. It needs to be listened to in order. 🙄
Shame it was the wooden pathetic vrsion with Liam Neeson. A shell of a version compared to Burton and Thompson fom 78'. its ok as an introduction to the song, but shamefully bad compared to the original. there is just no emotion or storytelling with this cast. neeson reads it like the instructions from a childs toy. Listen to the original, a dark, menacing anthemic rock track which ceated a legendary story, by a cast of performing Gods that will never be equalled. Do yourselves a huge favour, and go back and listen to the original 78' double album. Richard Burton, Julie Covington, Phil Lynott, David Essex, Richard Thompson, Justin Hayward, and forget that millenials always want to ruin great things.

The Martians attack on HMS Thunderchild is the 1978 album cover, a fantastic piece of artwork if you manage to see it :D
The double album comes with a same sized booklet with lyircs and further images..
The album by Jeff Wayne is literally a masterpiece
I was given my copy by my grandad in 1980.

This was released as a double LP, then as a double cd. This is either time to switch to the second album or cd!!!
It came out on cassette tape too. I was so surprised when I saw it at a boot fair 🤣
I never knew it was released on tape.
Hope you know this isn't the end of it, Thunderchild is gone but... :) you really do need to listen to the whole recording, not just one part.

Exactly how the Royal Navy would have behaved, gone down fighting to the last man....God Save The King🥸🥸🥸🥸

BTW it's normal in the British navy to call our vessels really ard names. Like HMS INVINCIBLE. or HMS ANNIHILATOR. HMS VICTORY.

You should listen to the original. With Richard Burton doing the narrating.
Strange that the navy only sent one ship
Listen to the original Richard Burton narration
This is not the conclusion. In fact , at this point the show is almost half way. The spirit of man comes after thunderchild.
martian fighting machine is broken the exit of the boat thunder child
i hope those martians don't catch any pesky viruses/bacteria.
