I’ve never sailed, never had any interest in holidaying in France, but RUclipss algorithm got me hooked and I’ve spent the last 2.5 weeks watching your channel back to back. Fantastic content not for likes or endorsements but for real people. You are living a dream that one day I might follow. Please keep uploading If not only for the fantastic wine and restaurants you’ve encountered along the way. Keep the white rose flag flying!
Fantastic! Really enjoyed following your trip as I hope to do it next year only, instead of turning left, Im going to go right into Spain a bit then back to got up the Canal du Midi
thank’s a lot to sharing your jurney. As I wrote you once in a other video. I plan to travel down the saon and rohne river. How where the current on the rhone. Do you think the way up is ok with a sailing vessel and a normaly powered engine. it give me a better idea to be prepared than. it’s nice for watching your films. i like it mutch. one more time, thank’s and keep enjoye
I’m not sure how to answer this. What I can say is that a 40 horse power engine with a good propeller will allow you to control a 11 metre long 7000kg boat DOWNSTREAM through the locks. I hope that helps you but more information about your plans and your boat will help to provide a better response. Thanks for watching our video and for sharing a relevant question in which I’m sure other people will be interested.
Nice video, thanks! We have a similar trip ahead. Would you mind me asking how much it was to restep de mast in Chantier Allemand? And, most importantly, what the mast transport cost? We're considering carrying it on deck but would prefer to have it shipped.
@@tralaralaaaa1 thanks for watching and regarding your question, I guess prices will have changed since 2021 to 2022 but budget for £1000 transport and £200 step. Due to COVID our mast was in storage at Dunkerque longer than we hoped and so storage costs exceeded budget. In all the cost to traverse the inland waterways was around £1500 just for the mast - BUT it gave us chance to have clear deck space AND kept boat length down for easier lock handling. Marinas charge by overall length and the mast increases the boat length - this isn’t a cost though if you wild camp! WE left the boat overwinter and summer in safe marinas. The inland waterways are absolutely beautiful- not to be rushed IMO. Keep in mind depth reduces in summer and autumn until the rains arrive. Hope you have a wonderful journey - we certainly did 👍 Stay safe and enjoy cruising JnS xx
Thanks for watching 🎉 The Schengen shuffle is an annoyance, but we tend to split the months before and and after summer. August is mad and hot, the UK is cooler (usually). We’re restricted to 3 months a year in reality.
Hi. Love the videos. We are planning a similar trip next year on our motor boat. How are you dealing with the 18 month VAT limitation on UK registered boats in the EU? Also, interesting that you brought your car along for the ride. Would you recommend that as a good strategy? Good luck on the next phase of your adventure. Noel.
Hi Noel, thanks for watching and we hope you've liked and subscribed! 👍To your questions: Boat restriction - OPTIONS entered Europe in October 2020, when the UK was still in the EU, so we just think about bringing her back to the UK from the EU without VAT concern, when and if that happens. If boats have entered after the transition period and they are in the MED, we know boaters visit North Africa or other non EU countries briefly to avoid EU VAT. Check out the forums on Cruising Association and RYA websites for up to date information. www.theca.org.uk/ www.rya.org.uk/ The car - we had some large items to get over to OPTIONS and wanted to explore some areas further away from the canals, so the car gave us that freedom BUT ... this was only for the duration of one of our 8 week trips to the boat. The logistics involved the car retrieval shuffle on bicycle - which I enjoyed mostly, as a nutty cyclist! Best wishes, safe cruising and stay tuned 😀 JnS
Well done. Didn't take too long lol. Happy days . Hope your enjoying the med.
