    I am SO grateful that I got to experience the Jaws ride twice before it closed down. I'll never forget the first time because it was raining hard and we were dressed in yellow ponchos getting drenched by the rain. It was only me and my grandmother that went on the ride. We were horror movie buddies and we loved Jaws. The heavy rain we were in really enhanced the experience, making it WAY more terrifying! And the fact that we were also in yellow ponchos was the subtle icing on the cake that made it even scarier because in one of the sequels at the very beginning of the movie, a guy gets eaten by Jaws and he's in a yellow poncho/raincoat. I got to experience the ride one other time in my life before it closed down. The weather was clear that day so I got to experience it the "normal" way but it wasn't the same for 2 reasons...1. The bad weather the first visit actually added to it and made it better. 2. and more importantly...my grandmother was no longer with us 😥 She was all I could think about during the ride and it just wasn't the same. She died May 1st 2014. In a strange way...experiencing that ride for the last time felt like a way to say goodbye to her. Because I never had the chance to in person. • @superapple6186
      @superapple6186 3 года назад +16

      I hate that it’s gone, yes. But I have to admit, I get it. The ride broke down way more than it worked and it was one of the two only attractions in that whole area. (Earthquake/Disaster being the other) and now they have this whole magical area with gift shops, Gringott’s, candy and butterbeer shops, places to use magician wands available for purchase, and they’re making BANK. It’s entertaining even if you’re not a fan of Harry Potter where as before Jaws and Disaster were attractions you had to beg somebody to ride with you. Like you, I much prefer the classics. I really miss the Psycho house/Bates Motel, the Hitchcock 3D show, Jaws, Back to the Future, I Love Lucy, Twister, etc. I understand from a business standpoint why they did it to keep guests interested but I completely agree that it sucks.

      When you experience submechaniphobia what are you thinking about that leads you to these feelings of anxiety/nervousness/fear?
      Is it about the possibility of becoming trapped on or in the object resulting in drowning? The object itself causing the damage, like pinchpoints and stuff similar to a workshop injury? The knowledge that aquatic life accumulates around underwater "cover"?
      I can think of many ways that being around something in the water like that would make me pay more attention to the surrounding water for safety sake, but i cant think of any reason it should induce any specific panic instincts. Not just because I was afraid of getting eaten by Sharks but also how the animatronic looked in my opinion it's actually more terrifying than a real life great white shark and after learning the true facts about actual Great White Sharks I became less scared and felt more sorry for them. That's how I first learned I had submechanophobia and it's also why I pretty much never went to Chuck E. Cheeses or any other place with animatronics because I was afraid of them. Of course my phobia isn't as bad as it was when I was like 9 years old but even to this day some animatronics unnerve me a bit. @@mauricefuqua1947 Well, I was a wee child of 11 and Jaws has been my favorite movie since I can remember, so when this ride came out, I was BEYOND excited to go on it. I lived in Florida at the time and going to Disney or Universal was expensive and a long drive, but totally doable, so I just had to bide my time until an excuse came up. My Girl scout troop decided to do a troop outing and we voted and Universal won - yay!
      It's based on a scary movie, but it's just a variant of a river boat ride, so all the adults were find with us going on it. Everyone was really ambivalent about the whole thing, except excited me and my safety buddy, who was ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED. She didn't even want to go on it, but none of the chaperones would sit out with her. Looking back as an adult, that wasn't cool of them.
      So, we get on and I FLY into an outside seat, because I MUST be as close to the action as possible. She's next to me, saying, "I'm just gonna cover my ears and shut my eyes the whole time and not look and blah blah." Everyone on board, the ride gets going.
      We go through the whole spiel, touring Amity, talking about tourist stuff, and OMG A SINKING BOAT! A FIN! WE GOTTA GET OUTTA HERE!
      RAWRSPLASH! Big fake shark head surges out of the water just feet from where I sit - this is the best day of my life!
      SCREAM OF ABJECT TERROR! My buddy jumps OUT of her seat and, since I'm leaning halfway out of the boat already, GAH! History here I come!
      Thankfully, my iron grip on the low side railing and a good Samaritan who grabbed my shirt, kept me from actually tumbling out of the boat and getting sucked into the mechanics. I don't remember if there were no belts (because it was the 90s) or if I just wasn't wearing mine because I wanted to sit as close to the edge as possible. They have better, higher side railings now, tho. lol
      Would have been such an ironic death, since I'm also afraid of real sharks. lol

    Quite frankly, the "animatronics" would not work in water because of the risk of fire or electrical shock from electronic parts. The sharks were actually run by pneumatic (air pressure) and little of hydraulic water pressure systems... from what I read in making of Jaws books.

    Call me old but the original Bruce will always look the best. The guy who designed Bruce was clearly obviously talented. Also recently my child just saw jaws for the 1st time and immediately caught the Jaws easter egg in finding Nemo where the great white shark is named Bruce. And now she's wondering why we never named our youngest kitten Jaws because the kitten loves the movie and even circles the kitchen with her tail tryin to make it look like a shark fin. Hell she even comes to us when we play the jaws theme now.
    Side joke; I always thought the malfunctioning Bruce was a sign from God helping on set with the film crew telling Spielberg what would sell more tickets. That or the Devil trying to show from his experiences what would scare more people. Either way it was an act from the other side who is a huge fan of Spielbergs work.

      I have posted this on many other Jaws videos. But I really do believe if they do a reboot (because a reboot is inevitable once Spielberg is gone let’s be fair) they should leave the original alone, and remake Jaws 3D instead, the concept is fantastic and whilst I love Jaws 3D, (for all the wrong reasons mind you) a remake could truly fulfil the original concept’s potential and not piss off hardcore fans. A much better option than tarnishing the original.

Remakes nowadays are pretty bad because there is no creative thought put into them, but many of the best 80’s movies are remakes.

    Like the video said, when making the first Jaws film, the shark had to the bottom of Nantucket where they were filming and so they sent divers to retrieve the fake shark. I wonder how scared they were when they were swimming in the murky waters and all of a sudden see a 25 foot great white. If I was one of the divers, I probably would have crapped my pants. Lol
