Even though I was wanting to contribute, but wasn’t able to, it makes me feel like it’s a little something - a little gift, if you will - that is representative of all of us who appreciate so much what you have done, taught, and given to us over all these years!! So, thank YOU!! (You even did the majority of the work putting all the blocks together to make the quilt! 🥰) You are such a gem!! God bless you and Patrick for all you do!! ❤❤

    Just got notification my Misfits Market order is on it's way! Got some things to dehydrate in there, as well as some fresh eating. Thanks for the info on adding fresh produce to frozen in order for the ferment to happen, I didn't know that and doubt I would have thought of it. Thanks for the info on Now, I didn't even know they sold essential oils! All the natural food stores around here sell their supplements, but not the EOs. The quilt is gorgeous, how fun that you received squares from overseas, and how wonderful that your gorgeous little grandbaby girl will get it passed on to her! And thanks for all your videos on remedies - I've had a head cold, it tried to move into my chest, but I've been hitting it hard with natural remedies and I'm kicking its butt! - and this is from someone who used to get bronchitis 1-2 times/winter & sinus infections 1-2 times/winter - God's medicine is sooo much better than manmade!!! We've never met, we likely never will, but I consider you a friend. THANK YOU for giving so much of yourself to so many!!!!!

    I found a great deal on onions this week, because the were starting to reach the end of their storage life. I'm fermenting them in a simple 1 tablespoon plain salt to 1 cup water, until I smell and taste them starting to ferment. Nothing extra added. Then I'll refrigerate until I need onion for burgers, potato salad, meat loaf, etc. As long as I don't put my fingers in the jar, only using a clean stainless steel fork to get some out, those onions will last for months.

      I fermented onions before when I ended up with a lot of them as well. They are handy to have ready to go like that. Though I do always add my fermentation starter to everything just to insure it will take off

    Speaking of ginger (sort of), Azure had a fruit spread of citrus and ginger that was delicious! I noticed it was on sale so decided to try it. I haven't checked to see if it's still in stock but I'll buy a larger quantity next time!
    I have a chicken story to share that I'm Still giddy about! You may recall that they quit laying almost a year ago because of the blasted feed. Of course, I got a different brand and they've been on that since. I went out yesterday because they were sqwauking up a storm! On a whim, I checked the nesting boxes and there was an egg! 😳 Later in the day, 2 more! 🎉 The cherry on top is that yesterday was Christmas in some parts of the world. The girls gifted me eggs for Christmas. 😄😀

    YAY!!! I've been wanting to try Azure's butter. What do you think of the flavor? Comparable to Kerry Gold?? We love their cheese!! I split a 5# of fresh garlic with my sister - I'll have check out what you bought. On the ginger I had a bit of a "dah!" moment - why am I not dehydrating it?! I've been freezing it. I think I would rather dry the majority of mine and just put a bit in the freezer.
    That quilt is amazing!! I hadn't found you back in Aug of 22...and I also wasn't quilting at that time either. One of my newest favorite hobbies! I like the "grandma - scrappy" quilts. Not into all the design as much.

    Somehow fermented eggs have never been on my radar! I love them pickled even though I am allergic. Might try this someday. I know you have said that you would never write a book but if you did, I would buy it. The quilt is beautiful on both sides! Would you ever consider a series of how to use and maintain a treadle sewing machine? I have an antique one that I bought from an estate sale in 1982. My son broke the belt shortly after I aquired it by sitting on the treadle and pretending he was driving a car by turning the wheel back and forth. So I have never used it but would really like to learn.

    I also want to comment on a friend of mine about dehydrating foods,she is putting me down because I do,saying it looses nutrients in the foods. Yes fresh is better but dehydrating is better. Less space,not having to use the freezer or fridge. Can't seem to change her mind. She also is growing her food which I got her into doing,but she doesn't think by freezer method is good,so I can't change her mind,I will continue doing my method. • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  11 месяцев назад +1

      So how does she preserve food, or does she? For some nutrients, dehydrating preserves more than freezing does. Canning destroys the most but again, it is only vitamins, everything else remains intact

    So I watched your video on fermented eggs. What I don't see is how 1/4 fermentation filled a Quart jar. How did you get that much liquid in the jar? Did you add it gradually as yoou addad more sugar. Sorry if I missed something. Is it possible the first commentor was Robert, not Roberta?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  11 месяцев назад +1

      Their name is Roberta, I thought it was Robert too until I clicked on their name. Even if they really are a guy, they are acting like a spoiled little girl, so it fits.
      On that video I did clarify in a pinned comment just under the video that I did not realize until after it published that I had accidentally cut out the part where I topped it off with water

    Do you know how many nurses and doctors mispronounce the brand names of some of the medications we give out? Usually its because we put the emphasis, like you did, on the wrong syllable.
    As far as ingesting EOs. My story. I was sick as a dog, sinus infection, that always historically ends up in my ears and chest. I'm learning healing herbs and I was convinced, with what I learned and had on hand, I could cure myself without Pharma. I chose oregano as my healing herb and my next step was to decide the best way to administer it. I had oregano Essential oil, researched it, found it was a potent anti- just about any organism that could make you sick...BUT.....all these warnings not to ingest it. So, why not? Well it could cause this, that and something else and stron warnings... Do Not take it internally. All my research yielded these conclusions without any explanation as to how they reached those conclusions.
    So I dig deeper. Will it hurt me if I make an oregano salad and eat 4 cups of oregano in 1 sitting. Not one of the "medical sites" that warned against ingesting oregano EO, mentioned that we should limit out oregano daily consumption.
    So, i treated myself. A single drop of oregano EO, on a tablespoon of honey, 3 times a day. It's very bitter but.....the first time, in my life, I got over a sinus infection without using an antibiotic.
    The only cautionary thing I would say about using EO internally, research it thoroughly and make sure it is a good one, not something made for aromatherapy.

    For your dehydrated chili, how long does it take to reconstitute with the whole beans? I might try dehydrating some as I don’t have a pressure canner yet. Thanks 😊

      Once cooked beans have been dehydrated, they rehydrate quite quickly. I would say 5 minutes tops

    I was taught to never judge someone mispronouncing a word because it means they likely learned by reading. Especially now in this time of all the video content.

    Hi Heidi. The quilt is beautiful! Hopefully the person correcting the pronunciation was coming from a place of well meaning. I welcome it myself as long as the person isn’t nasty about it. We all continue to learn new things and shouldn’t be made to feel dumb about it.

    the way the English language is butchered more and more, pronunciation does not even bother me anymore. I hear it and giggle and believe you me, some channels give me lots to giggle, sometimes headshaking too. Most giggles are from Germans trying to speak English. I really enjoy Brit. English channels, like music to my ears 😃 So never stress about pronouncing a word differently!!!!
