  • This is a quick video of the skirts on my 17th Century mantua gown and how they are looped up in their distinctive pleats!
I did not use a pattern for this gown, but did heavily reference Period Costume for the Stage and Screen (1500-1800) by Jean Hunnisett (affiliate link: www.amazon.com...)
The trims for this mantua came from Shop of Embellishments: www.shopofembel...

Cool! It's not nearly as complicated as it looked! Also explained how you packed it so easily. And answered my question of why not simply sew belt and folds to waistband. PS - love the necklace!

Sorry to ask, but what should I google to find the brush you have all around the skirt? It looks amazing.

How many yards of fabric are required for a mantua? And did you use a pattern or diagram, or did you draft it yourself?

I think yardage depends on a lot on the height and size of the maker, as well as how full you want your skirt - there is a lot of variety in these. I used Hunnisett (link in the video description)
