I love the idea here that the Wayne family is cursed in this story. The concept that the reason there are so few Waynes, that they keep getting killed off and that everything they touch keeps dying is because a witch cursed them is just awesome. The Waynes are often credited with creating Gotham City, it's often their legacy and when you hear people talk about how something is wrong with the city somehow, is just what makes the Witchunter story my favorite. That and someone using deductive reasoning during the Salem Witch trials is just gold!
Hey Rob! The way its explained in the old rip hunter and booster gold comics is that the vanishing point is essentially the set end of the universal timeline before the collapse of all things. And by operating out of the end of time, they(rip and booster) can not only see but access the totality of space/time and its many possible divergent timelines. Its been rigged with a very comic science temporal loop that makes it so that not only does the vanishing point never enter that final state of collapse before the birth of a new universe but also so that those entering it do so in a different hyper time frequency each time so that rip and booster never bump into a different time version of themselves and those that have been locked up there can never actually leave. Don't get me wrong, batman is my absolute favorite character, but I always thought it was funny that they made superman corruption stories, but NO batman corruption stories. DNM changes that and gives a different perspective on things. And the batman who laughs is fucking WILD!

I just love that somebody wrote a story so that Batman is Batman because he's Batman. I finished this whole story recently and it's so good. I didn't realize (or forgot since I've watched your videos) that Barbatos was mentioned. I guess there would've had to have been some element of it that wasn't new by the time of Metal, but I just thought they retconned Barbatos into that. The ending was great. "Tell him the city is in danger and it needs Batman."
This actually reminds me of the tv show "Forever" in it, Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd) died April 7, 1814 after being shot and thrown off a slave ship. He would then be reborn again some short time after emerging from water. This cycle would continue to occur every time he would suffer a fatal incident.

We find out in Time Masters: Vanishing Point that Booster Gold actually created the vanishing point himself. That story is the one that ties into The Return of Bruce Wayne.

And back in the Rick Hunter stories it was talked about but wasn't seen, Earth ?, And that's story started back in 1959 and doesn't really fit in the DC Multiverse stories we know of.

So basically the Metal storyline somewhat happened in the past. So Barbatos is basically Darkseid Batman. However there is only one Darkseid. Bruce Wayne overcame Darkseid's Omega Sanction by flat lining (Return of Bruce Wayne # 6).
Not sure if you've gone over this already, but how was Barbatos alive in the time of Man of Bats and in the present day? Did he travel time like Batman or is he an immortal like Vandal Savage? Or something else altogether?
This, exactly. Almost nobody else even comes close to being immortal enough for Barbatos. An Evil Bat-Shazam would have to stay inside of his Rock of Eternity counterpart. An Evil Bat-Spectre would be too fixated on vengeance and taking people out one-by-one, and there would be downtime as he loses hosts. Ditto with an Evil Bat-Hawkman--there would be downtime as hosts die and reincarnate. A Bat-Vandal Savage would almost work IF said character was actually a divergence, or a version, of the Bruce Wayne sent back to the beginning of mankind, but that doesn't seem to be the story here. Likewise, Barbatos doesn't seem to be blue or small, which rules out a Batman from OA or Malthus. I'm seriously thinking this is The Batman Who Killed Dream. As in the Endless. This would explain the whole nightmare quality to the Dark Multiverse, why the mainstream version of Morpheus even cares about humanity (or how he can be beaten by it), and everything.
