- The Ace Frehley of the late 70s and early 80s inspired and motivated me to take up playing guitar as a kid.
In this vid I've broken down 1/2 a dozen of Ace's best solos to reveal the techniques that I believe give Ace his unique voice on the guitar.
All pieces played on my Gibson "The Paul" (I don't have an LP) loaded with a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates in the neck and a Seymour Duncan Distortion in the bridge - which was the position used for all lead parts.
I ran the guitar through my awesome Keeley Tone Workstation, a Dunlop Wah (WIDE open), and occasionally a Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive.
All Tabs created at soundslice.com - check out my channel there also.

Awesome job highlighting Ace's solos! You are a talented guitar player too. Ace is unique and legendary, screw the haters and Ace will stand test of time.
Yeah, Ace is so tasty and inventive! I don't really get into all the drama. Just love his riffing.
Love it - you have the same passion for Ace that I experienced as a 10 year old kid - will be checking out all your other vids (and awesome to see another great Aussie guitar channel)
Awesome! I really love reaching people with the same musical passions/obsessions.
It's wonderful to be able to share with like-minded weekend rockers around the country, and world!
Man you nailed Ace, this was so much fun listening to you jamming. Perfect tone. I just can't seem to get the right tone with my Fender Champion 100 amp with Boss DS1 and Tube Screamer though, ugh. Great video, looks like you had a lot of fun with it! Ace rules!🤘
Cheers, Shamus! The main thing I found when trying to recreate Ace's tone, is to CRANK the treble HEAPS. I actually had the Way on and fully open for most of these.
Ace rules has always been my fav always will be, he is who got me wanting to play as well.
Imagine how many kids he inspired!
Great video!! Ace was never the hardest working guitar player in the history of guitar playing but he did what he had to do to leave a indelible mark in Rock and Roll history and electric guitar. Nothing more, nothing less. It's funny that you mentioned the great, late EVH. I can see the similarities (both very blues influenced) but whilst Eddie was ward working and innovative, Ace was (and is) laid-back and melodic. Both great musicians with similar tones: guitar with bridge humbucker in E flat, Marshall Plexi, Greenback speakers.... nice!!
Thank you so much for the visit and the comment. Great insights too - yes, Ace has never been a model of dedication, hahaha!
Ace new what the fans wanted. He didn't need to do all the fancy stuff. Just look at all those that followed him in KISS. Most of their solos are pretty forgettable.
"And he stayed right the fuck at home"
Covid jokes aren't aging well.
Space with ACE
As much as I adored him as a kid, his antics are starting to wear thin...
great video man . I am also a HUGE Ace Frehley fan. Kiss alive was my first album
Dynasty was mine. I had to work backwards.
"Ha ha! So much fun!"

You may be right but I believe it to be Ace. Either way - great little phrases! Thanks for checking it out.

thanks, Justin.
I really hope you can do a video on this because I think a lot of people would like to know. Can you figure out what Ace frehley is playing on old live solos when he goes down the scale of the gutair you will know what I'm talking about he plays it at 1:22 of the Tokyo 1977 live solo, the sound is beautiful and I want to play it soo bad I just can't figure out what he's playing lol I'd really hope you could figure it out and make a video teaching us
Thanks, Kaden! Check this out mate ruclips.net/video/jmg0TgbQMrQ/видео.html

Wonderful video
Thanks Pepe. Glad you liked it.
Hey man I got a question have you paid any attention to his soloing in terms of how he follows chord progressions. Is he strict with following chords if at all. Or does he just switch keys using pentonic positions
This is such a great question! My gut reaction is that he simply utilises the pentatonic scale of the parent key, without altering scales or even note choices to match other chords in the progression. I note, the chord changes are very simplistic in Kiss songs. Not moving away from the initial tonal centre.
@@dannyeddyguitar Yea that's what I thought thanx great channel man.
Great video. Great playing ‼️ I wish the tab didn't zip by so quickly..
