YES... My Magic Drawin Pad arrived on May 5th and the first thing I noticed was the pen offset, which is a little different when used in portrait or landscape orientation. One night later there was an update - version vFLDP(12-01). Now you can optimize the global cursor offset. "Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Handwriting is not aligned". Very nice because I want to use concepts and there is no in-app curso customization. I love this little thing! Thank you for this review. It was one of three RUclips videos about the magic drawing pad when it came to purchasing decisions.

    • @neutrinostorm
      @neutrinostorm 6 месяцев назад +16

@@farelldesman5199 Absolutely. The offset problem depends on the orientation of how you hold the pad while painting. With the setting I mentioned, the offset is corrected globally, so it has the same effect on all programs.

Brad...I just posted my review as well. I contacted the peeps over at XPPen with the same gripe about the cursor issue. They indicated it was calibrated to the tip at a 90 degree position as to facilitate left and right handed people. I asked about calibration as well...they indicated a possible driver update later. I literally went back and forth about the same issue. Also, I did use a pen from another device...and told them about it. They of course indicated that I needed to use the pen that it came with...but I really liked that I can use alternate pens. Anyway, this was a great device. small qwirks...but overall I am sure it will improve as we get updates. Love the channel. ike

For those wondering about calibration, there is an "Advanced features" setting which can allow you to manually calibrate the pen (maybe somewhere around -3 to -8 is a good range but, choose based on what is comfortable to you). You would have to update the tablet, if it doesn't come updated already. If you're buying directly from XP-Pen site, from this point, you might already have a recently updated one.

Hey Brad. I bought this tablet and think it's awesome. I found out how to calibrate the cursor also.
If you go into the advance settings and go to handwriting offset you can adjust the cursor to where it's directly under your pen using the arrows to the right. I hope this helps for anyone looking to buy this product.

As seems to be the norm with XP Pen and Huion,...I get 90% invested into pulling the trigger on ANY of their products and BAM....there arrives the "But" in Brad's review! This was no exception. The offset cursor is a DEAL KILLER and really should be for ANY artist!!! C'mon guys.....FIX THAT!!!! Let the artist calibrate it to THEIR desired level of accuracy; NOT YOURS!

As someone who has used a Nintendo DSi for the past 13 years, I can say you can get used to it. Especially when there's a cursor that's on screen before you even touch the screen. If anything, some offset is actually kind of nice because your pen tip DOES cover up where you're drawing, and having some offset lets you actually see where you're drawing.
What actually does suck tho is parallax.

But your basic "philosophy" of technology for graphic arts has been solid IMO. Most of my life I was a happy analog artist at night and and IT guy during the day. I was delighted when the two were united and have continued to evolve into a greater creative reality. RUclips is great from a viewer perspective, not so great, I understand, from the producer/creator role. Count me as one who would follow/pay you if you decide to leave because it's not fun anymore. It's the most perfect Android tablet for drawing for now. And it really born to be drawn. It's even better than iPad Pro in some aspects, especially with the variety of pen options. You're not stuck with just one model of Applepencil like the iPad Pro (only pressure sensitive pens count). Because for drawing, the weight, shape and grip of the pen affects everything, so having an options will make it suitable for everyone. What I think it lacks in comparison to the iPad is only processing power and an ecosystem in their software.
These releases make me eager to see the day they continue to raise the level of competition on their higher model. Maybe increase the processing power by using a flagship processor and a bright colourful 120 hz screen.
But all of this said would be no value if the cursor is not getting fix. Hope they fix this soon and enable ability to self-calibrate.😂

The cursor offset is an inherent flaw of a passive type stylus. The screen is reading the location of the copper coil in the stylus as opposed to the plastic tip, which is just there for a replaceable contact point. Samsung gets around it by having the little rubber capacative tip on the S-Pen, if you watch closely you can see the cursor shift slightly when you hover/touch the stylus to the screen. For PC tablets you correct it through calibration, for XP pen to not have that option ready here is a huge oversight to me. They've got plenty of experience with passive styluses, they must have known this would happen.

There is one thing that bugs me, it is the camera I see on the back, I never used a camera on a tablet and can not see a point for it with a drawing device, so it look like a extra bump that make it problematic resting on a flat surface. How was that, was it a too large bump or do you need the cover to get it flat?

Not sure if any know the XP Pen Deco v2 pen works with the 9FE model in certain drawing apps I was really surprised.

I was checking after this video the TCL advert from the TCL tablet Nxtpaper 14 Pro and discovered by mere chance that the XP Pen Magic Drawing Pad is actually the TCL Nxtpaper 12 Pro, that's if with the exclusive support of the xppen technology of the stylus. It's exactly the same tablet, the same color, processor, etc. That means that accessory such as the cover with lid and keyboard are shared with this tablet in addition to being a brand with experience in phones and tablet. which can give certainty of the quality of the tablet ( text translated by firefox translate )

Hi Brad, I'm looking into buying this tablet so thanks a lot for this review.
I read somewhere the offset and tilt issues should've been fixed with an update. Can you confirm this or?
Also have you tried 3D sculpting with it? I'm looking to buy it so I can sculpt in Nomad Sculpt.

I was doing some research on my own about this tablet. According to a review question and response from XP posted on Aug 29,2024, the current tablet model will not support Tilt function (at all) regardless of pen. However, there has been a driver update to add a calibration setting for the offset issue. So you can fix the cursor /pen tip offset, but tablet itself can not upgrade for Tilt function (wasn't built into it).

(5:23) I could tell that wasn't stock Android, but a manufacturer UX on top of Android as evidenced by the design of the notification shade. I can't identify the specific UX that's on it, but it reminds me of ColorOS (Oppo), FunTouch (Vivo), and OxygenOS (OnePlus). It appears to me to be not as heavy as One UI (Samsung Galaxy) is, though.
(7:21) I remember Hugh Jeffreys making a video about his theories as to why they don't include power adaptors and earphones.

I am such an XPPEN simp, I've owned the deco star, the 22e Pro, and the 24 Pro atm. Each time I've upgraded I've gifted the tablet to someone I know but I digress. What I love about the 24 pro is the 60 degrees tilt function. I want to love, and own this tablet but I think waiting and seeing if they come out with an upgraded version is the best bet. If they can have a tablet with tilt function it will rival the iPad on an insane level.

    great review as usual!
i'm looking to get an ipad pro replacement and this seems like a solid choice. i've just about had it with the apple pencil. it needing to be recharged, it feeling too heavy to draw with for long periods (i have joint issues in my hands now and it makes holding the pencil worse) and especially after experiencing what a proper graphics pen feels like with another xxpen tablet i have, i just can't go back. it's so much lighter and battery free, and i like that's it's not hyper sensitive like the apple pencil is which i know most people like...but in my case less is more; when i look at my work on the ipad compared to desktop clipstudio paint...you would never guess it was drawn by the same artist. it was making me really sad and not wanting sketch anmore.
i'm dying to be able to use clipstudio on the go but still have the same experience as if i'm using my graphics tablet. so hopefully it runs smoothly. P.S. what graphics pen did you use in the video as an alternative? it looked so comfy and high end lol.

Damm, had they given these windows instead, it would have been a great drawing device. There is no reason as to why you should get this over a Galaxy or iPad. Even the pen seems to be worse than the S pen and the Apple pen, honestly expected more from a company focused solely on drawing devices.

I've been trying to get the Apple Pencil to mimic the form factor with sleeves and such, but nothing really gets there. I'd like to see a top of the line processor in there though, cause my CSP documents can get a heavy and that liquify tool and brushes(at large sizes) just eat processor power.

3x2 screen! The best ratio. iPad too squarish, Samsung too narrow. Realize that the giant Samsung S9 ultra with a 14-in screen, in the narrow direction is still only as big as the iPad 12. I have an S7+. Also a huge plus to have a textured glass screen built in. Texture screen protectors are a bad idea and they just wear out and you have to replace them. However it's hard to steer away from Samsung, overall all they just make incredible hardware and software.

It would be nice if they added a "hybrid" function like Wacom did with its abandoned CIntiq hybrid from 2015, which had Android mode and made it possible to connect with a second monitor.
The prices are very close, but this one is infinitely superior in terms of specifications and Wacom did not support Android updates, which remained at version 4. This will be launched with version 12, I hope it will have support for updates in the coming years.
