      That LONS album is nothing less than an artistic masterpiece! Charlie Brown literally sounds like Charlie Parker's trumpet on one song. Unfortunately it was too artistic or experimental for the masses because it didn't sell well, and it was the final nail that broke the group. Busta talked about making that album as the group was unraveling on VLADtv.

    I was 15 years old when these two albums dropped. I bought the tribe album that saturday (November 13th 1993) I only had enough money to buy one and it was a tough decision! By late December my friend and saved up a few dollars together and finally bought the wu-tang album. I still own both cassettes today. Those were two of the most important albums in developing my love for Hip-Hop. These albums were and still are precious art that is built to last not cookie cutter, throw away garbage rap.

      In '93/'94, I would go into a record store in the mall like The Whiz or Tape World or Virgin and I would get confused about what to buy, because soooo damn many artists on the shelves were so damn good! You'd go broke !! Many times I would leave without buying anything! Had to think it over in the food court! Hell, today I'm still discovering artists I slept on back in '90s. It truly was a Golden Age, but it sucks that we didn't realize it at the time.

    As one who was there in that era I gotta correct you on one point, sub genres were a thing even back then. Commercial rap was repeatedly denounced by underground and hardcore rappers. Even Tribe AND Wu took aim at rappers who “crossed over”. If you were an MC Hammer or Vanilla Ice, or riding the New Jack Swing bandwagon, MCs were gonna call you out over it in their songs. Peep EPMD’s 1992 song “Crossover”.
    Let’s not re-write history, instead I encourage you to do your homework more on this era. Aside from that, beautiful and excellent tribute to two immortal hip hop masterpieces. You have yourself a new subscriber.

    I remember being on a high school playoff bus trip after these came out. Half of us were listening to Tribe. The other thuggier half was Wu-ing out over CREAM and Protect Ya Neck. Having come from Low End Theory I was deeply invested in Tribe and hating on Wu-Tang for a couple of months. A few months later I gave 36 chambers the listen it deserved and fell in love.

    First of all great video. You did a good job putting it together. I respect your opinion these two albums were dope, and 36 chambers is arguably the best album ever, but I have to say I kind of disagree the greatness of 1993 culminated when ATCQ and WU dropped their albums. I agree its a dope album, I respect your opinion but to put it all on these two albums is denying the greatness of the rest of that year and how influential they were. Just looking at east coast albums there were many many dope and influential albums dropped that year, " Return of the boom bap" by krsone, "Enta da stage" by Black Moon, "Here comes the lords" by LOTUG. SO many dope albums by other artist like Onyx, digable planets, masta ace, Tim dog, fat joe, De La Soul etc etc....And if we move on to the west coast the list is just as impressive, Cypess hills black sunday album dropped that summer. Snoops first album dropps that year, Souls of mischiefs 93 til infinity is one of my personal favorites. So many dope albums came out that year. There were also some of the best movie soundtracks dropped that year. Overall it was the best year in Hip Hop IMO. And yes I agree the Wu tangs and atcq albums were dope but I wouldn't put it all on them. There were too many dope ablums that year. Also the June 1993 edition of "The Source" Magazine was the best edition of that magazine ever dropped!! Again it all comes down to personal opinion. Great video, Peace!!

      @DefGoldbloom  8 месяцев назад

      For sure, conscious hip-hop has 100% been around since the beginning. It wasn’t until the mid-90s when it started being marketed as something separate than the mainstream though. Public Enemy and KRS-One now would be considered conscious, but in the 80s they weren’t put in that box and were thought of as some of the biggest hip-hop artists in general

    Latinos -- Puerto Ricans particularly -- please explain how you co-created or co-invented yet another installment in the legacy of Black Musical expression known as Rap and Hip Hop, yet didn't co-create or co-invent any of the elements or ingredients of the 14 or so African American music forms that preceeded it? Or why you were nowhere to be found and absent during the creative and inventive foundation outlining the forms of African American musical expression, brilliance and greatness throughout, or even prior to the previous 14 or so African American music forms that are mentioned above? Yet then, all of a sudden--and out of nowhere, lying latinos and jamaicans slither along and falsely claim latinos and/or puerto ricans and jamaicans co-created and co-invented Rap and Hip Hop 50/50 half n half (which is the evidence-free and utter nonsense being peddled by Dr. Derrick Colon, radical latino, Fat Joe and numerous other un-informed and envious latinos---which are claims that latinos never mentioned, verbalized or asserted during its inception in the early 1970's)---latinos claims of "50/50--half & half co-creation and co-invention just don't add up---it makes no sense and are increasingly coming under heavy scrutiny which is leading to these claims being easily debunked--widespread. Nice try though latinos, puerto ricans and jamaicans.
