we had sets just like that in 68. add a couple of loop the loops. old timer suggestion stack encyclopedias or phone books or something like that. stuff you kids dont use anymore. under the middle of the ramp to take the bump out of the starting gate.
I've been running H-O gravity and electric slot car drag races since 1973 (documentation for each cars racing history) using NHRA drivers/cars/classes. I use all makes (Johnny Lightning, Hot Wheels, Racing Champs, M-2s, etc. with first round losers dropping to a B Class or C Class depending on the number of entries. I have events called The Shoebox Shootout, Winter Blowout, Spring fling, etc. Slot-cars are early 70s A/FX Magna-Traction using the "Wedge" dragsters and the More nza and Pontiac Gran Am Funny Car bodies. Pro Stock is bodies that snap on the chassis. Featured in Lots of Slots magazine back 1995 as first drag racing version Track of the Month. I use 21' 7" for 1/4 mile scale. For your gravity drags, elevate the starting line up to at least table top level to get a good fast launch and place a board or something solid under the track before the cars hit the floor. Angle the board to give the track a smooth transition to allow the car to motor through the entire track to the finish without any bumps along the way. I have each lane driving through a pair of scale covered bridges at the half way point. Something different.
Nice job!!! Thanks for the info 👍. We're always on the lookout for new ideas to build layouts 'on-the-cheap'. Love the creativity in your presentation, too!!!
Dear diecast racing fans.... I must say this was pretty cool. My equation is different. Since Hot Wheels make different lengths of vehicles, I came up with this.... The average length of a vehicle bumper to bumper is 16 FT. 1,320 ft to a quarter mile divided by 16 ft, equals 82.5 cars. I lined up that many vehicles bumper to bumper. Then I tape measured that out, it equated/equivalent to 22 1/2 ft of track. 🏁😎👍🏻
Nice. Im working on one from a Frankenstein of parts. After much searching and also getting sent wrong kits ill have a nice setup with a launcher that launches both at the same time as well as a finish that pops the loser off the track. The problem I was having was the finish flag that you are using would show the wrong winner if the race was close. Good luck!
I think if you notch out about an inch out of the centers of the bottoms of each track piece, you'd have a smooth surface across the bottom of both lanes through the center to tape the tracks together so the tape isnt bulky and cause unevenness along the 'quarter mile' 👍
Awesome video! I suggest hot glue gun for the finish line. They are $4-5 in Walmart Craft section. My question is: Is there a tab so that you can add a track section behind the start gate?
1st off,, Thanx,I really like this, I'm terrible at math and couldn't quite understand which format to use to make get the answers? 2nd, I once introduced betting on Diecast vehicles to a group of my friends. We tried to get out together at the same times as each driver, We'd usually agree on a number of vehicles for each person's team, and leave them in their packages until Race day? Usually around $5 (+ tax) for 5x Diecast vehicles, chosen in one 5-pack of Hot Wheels or Matchbox, with multi-packs of Maisto, Zuru, etc; OR 5x singles packs? Then pitch another $5 per team into a pot and the Winner takes all (except the other team's diecasts)!!! It allows for the fairest competition imo. Thanx for sharing.
Good idea for making it longer. I got the same set here I bought last year. Just now getting to it LOL. I see on other channels that flag at the finish line tends to go towards the side where the flag is facing because of the plastic weight mostly. Any issues with yours?
We didn’t have issues with that in this video, however on our roof drag race track video the cars were going so fast that it wouldn’t really hit the tab properly so it didn’t fall on the correct side.
Thank you for doing the math to demonstrate the conversion. I am an 8th grade science teacher and have been teaching that concept along with the speed formula for over 20 years now. I reinforce the class work with a Hot Wheels lab using a two lane 20 foot track also. Back in 2004 Hot Wheels put out a roll of 50ft track that was only sold at Kmart. I cut that in half for the two lanes so no connectors or seams. My track set up is 3ft up off the ground at the starting gate, 10ft downhill, then 10ft flat on the ground to the finish line. Students really have fun with this speed lab and don’t realize they are learning at the same time! Thanks for showing an economical way to race. BTW, Dollar Tree now sells a two pack of 2ft track with two connectors.😊
@Alex Gonzalez Hi Alex 👋 ☺️ and no problem. Actually I got a video of the dollar tree hot wheel track you mentioned 😆. It is great hearing from you and you sound like a super cool teacher 😎

Thanks Big Guy . I learned something from you .bless you

One of my favorite diy track videos
Cool, nice job. 👍💯
Try a bag of rice at the finish line. It'll save your cars... Have fun y,all.
Thanks for the simple math on the track length.
Getting ready to build mine soon, thanks 😊

Use Google to look up a scale converter. That will give you the answers.
Cool. Just subbed. Hello from Winnipeg.
Great track set up man
Miss you.guys
Nice! Thanks for the tips
I like that root beer chevelle car
A new fan
The length you need for a ¼ mile at 1/64 scale is 20 feet 7½ inches.
1320÷64=20•625
to convert 0•625 feet to inches, multiply by 12.
0•625×12=7•5
I could not find this on Amazon could someone post a link?
You can buy the 2 foot Hot Wheels track at Dollar Tree. It looks better than the 1 foot track.
Cool
