This is a seriously high quality review. Keep it up. I'm curious in how this monitor performs in its colors vs a wide color gamut monitor like the LG 27GL850
@@emmanueldupuis3540 Im so fucking confused. This reviewer says ELMB is USELESS and other comments says it works over 100hz? WTF is it? Does it work or not? Why would ASUS make this the salepoint and get away with something that doesnt even work? I dont get it.

Keep up the videos! I've learned so much from you just by watching you. No monitor reviews can compare to your quality of running tests and diagnostics. There is this big misinformation of monitors between the consumers and the tech industry that only your videos can reveal. If you have time I would like to see what calibration settings you made for this monitor since I bought the same one.
This is the first video that I am watching from you and I’ve heard great things about you. I just want you to know that you have the best fans out of any youtuber man.
Phenomenal review. I'm probably going to get this anyway, just because it's really cheap and hits the target for what I need. There's a lot of things that flew over my head, but nonetheless it's nice to know that it's good enough
If you can get it cheap, it's not too bad, but other IPS monitors have gotten much better in the last few years. Most of the nano-IPS panels from LG have much faster response times. I've got a review of the Lenovo Y27q-20, which uses one of those panels, and it's amazing how much better the Lenovo is than the VG27AQ.
This review is so ridiculously well-done that it doesn't deserve to remain in obscurity. I'd suggest changing your channel name from "a5hun" to "Aperture Grill" so that people know that your channel is just as professional as your reviews, which they totally are!
Thanks! I made a huge mistake when I used my personal channel for the first few reviews :) I'd love to review more, but it's been hard to get monitors for review and most of the new, interesting stuff coming out is very expensive.
@@ApertureGrille I understand, but it helps to start having a professional presentation even when getting started. Hardware Unboxed was already a well-presented RUclips channel even when they only had 30K subscribers.
You just got yourself a new subscriber! No test about the Freesync range or I missed it? So far you are the only reviewer that provided in depth testing on the ELMB sync implementation and managed to point out the weakness of Asus's backlight strobing + VRR implementation.
Thank you! Yeah, I forgot to mention the adaptive sync range. It's 48 Hz to 165 Hz. Tftcentral also did a good investigation of ELMB, and it seems they maybe got a better result with an AMD graphics card, but I don't have one to test. And besides, ASUS doesn't make any mention of ELMB not functioning with GeForce cards.
Thanks for the in-depth review of this monitor! Very informative. Was wondering if you can also do the updated version of this monitor which is the VG27AQL1A. Thank you!
This is the best monitor review I have ever seen, but still the raid shadow shills reading up specs with huge lists of amazon links gets all the attention
Thank you! But I hope my newer reviews are better! When I look back at this, which was one of my first reviews, I cringe a bit. I've learned a lot about video production, audio recording, etc., since then. :)
Talking about "bleeding": This is IPS "glow"/"shine" and not bleed. This is kind of normal for this technology and such large scales. A real bleed looks completely different and does not depend on viewing angle, as shown here (only IPS glow does).
Amazing review. I would only love a longer conclusion at the end and maybe a quick comparison with 2 other monitors, because right now its really hard for me to decide after this review to buy it. As I understood it was a no?
its good solid product. but he ended with the selling point of of this monitor which is ELMB that no other monitor has, is not implemented well. that does sounds like a big deal, even if other features were great...
Welp... You just earned yourself a sub bud! I can't say that my pc monitor knowledge is anywhere near as extensive as yourself. But it get's pretty frustrating seeing comments and complaints on the internet and in reviews about monitors. But coming from people that have no idea what it is they are even complaining about.... Thought I would never want to go to anything other than an UW. But I am getting curious about trying a monitor with a faster refresh rate and can handle blur a tad better. I may have to pull the trigger on this one. I will keep an eye out on your channel bud!
Stuck between getting this one and the TN version the VG27BQ. I have a rtx 2080 super and going to be playing competitive games so I would like all the frames I can get but I do want good picture quality and could sacrifice a couple frames for the better quality. But what’s the biggest difference between the two? The frames or the picture quality?
I don't have the VG27BQ for review, but check out MistaSparkul's post here on HardForum: hardforum.com/threads/asus-tuf-gaming-vg32vq-worlds-1st-display-with-concurrent-motion-blur-reduction-adaptive-sync.1981468/page-4#post-1044333639 For a TN panel, it doesn't seem to be doing much better than the IPS. I'm really hoping that ASUS refreshes both the VG27AQ/BQ with newer panels from AU Optronics. Right now I'm playing games on the VG279QM, and while it's only a FHD screen (so not great for desktop usage), in games it's better than the VG27AQ.
Im using VRR + ELMB Sync. When the monitor was OC'ed to 165hz the strobing was very prominent and visually noticeable. After i turned off the monitor oc and set the FPS to 144 it's all fine. Any experience with this?
Just some feedback: I'm on a benq xl2411 and I'm looking for an upgrade. Mostly for gaming. Historically I would go for best FPS gaming experience (IE: fastest response times). I was hoping for a larger monitor with better blacks and colors for casual games but still good for FPS, which led me to the ViewSonic XG270QG listed on blurbusters. Your review of it brought me to this video. The technicality of your videos is well beyond me, so I'm not able to take much useful info from them.
The reason they dont offer 60 hz single strobe is because of the insane flickering you notice on screen. TVs have "clear motion" because they mostly perform motion interpolation. This is something you can't do on a computer monitor.
Thanks for the review nice to finally find one so detailed and informative. I'm looking to get my first 1440p Monitor still sold on this one I'm mainly looking to game FPS & MOBA genre and watch a lot of Netflix.
