Geralt and Arthur are the two best protagonist till now in gaming, the fact that their characters are flawed is what makes them the best. They are very much akin to what a normal person would behave like in similar situation is what grounds them to reality. They are not the messiah or the saviour who would save the world or bring glory. They are just common people who are trying to do the right thing which they truly believe in.
I've got a pretty personal connection to Revan from KOTOR or Shepard from Mass Effect (both Bioware characters), but I can get behind Geralt as a top pick.
I think that's also why the Mandalorian works well as a character. He gives zero fucks about the galaxy far far away as a whole, but he's utterly dedicated to fulfilling his contacts, to his Clan, to the Mandalorian Creed (even if Mandos aren't exactly good guys) and to The Child. And it's that exact dedication that brings him to the path he took, and fighting against Imperial remnants. It also brings his humanity, which contrasts with the demeanor of a consummate warrior.
there is always something new to discover in this game. That is a lie. Arthur never has any sort of second thoughts until he gets sick. He kills anyone who disagrees with them he doesn't ever show compassion to monsters or people trying to kill him like Geralt. @@MartinJHenebury Arthur Morgan is one of the greatest ever characters in video gaming history. In my past 2 decades of gaming, I've never come across a character whose story arc is a pure delight to experience. Arthur Morgan may not get you hooked right off the bat. Arthur's compassion and loyalty is clearly seen but as the game progresses we get to see his vulnerability even though he comes across as a henchman. Once he gets to know his fate, you can see how he begins to question the morality of Dutch's newfound ways or whether anything was ever real between the gang. Another heartbreaking moment is shown when despite his heart desperately wanting to run away with his lady love, he cannot think of betraying his gang He wasn’t a hero but when he got sick he helped johns family too live in peace he was no hero but he died like one Think first before saying anything
I agree with your analysis, Geralt is sophisticated , he realises that he can’t put the world to rights so he saves his energy and does not try to control the world, instead he controls himself and chooses to do what is possible, to take responsibility for his own choices however they turn out.
Just to clarify, witchers absolutely DO have emotions. Geralt shows emotion, Lambert shows emotion, Vesimir shows emotion. Geralt's emotional attachment to Ciri is the main plot of W3, and his conflicting feelings for Yennifer and Triss are a major subplot. They say they don't, because witcher culture is super-macho. I have the same problem with Vulcans -- just because they like to PRETEND to be emotionless, doesn't mean they are. Of course, most of them are massive jerks, but arrogance, egomania, and racism are emotions too.
Witchers have an image to maintain. They're known as the very professional and competent monster hunters. If a leshen is prowling the woods, you need someone who has their shit together and can remain a stone faced badass, no matter what. Imagine if word got out that Witchers are just as ''fallible'', emotionally speaking, as regular humans. People would definitely still hire them, but might pay even less than the meager sum that poor Geralt already has to make due with. According to the books, Geralt is actually damn near broke money wise.
I think it's not fair and accurate to mention only Witcher 3 when talking about Geralt or the Witcher games in general. The first 2 are both fucking amazing and add a lot to the characters, story and overall atmosphere of the franchise
Arthur morgan is an amazing character , ask yourself is he a good person , yes he had circumstances that made him cruel , I love him tbh but 90% of gamers only consider him the best bcz of the touching ending he had He regretted what he did and that's good , geralt on the other hand ain't a classic hero but ain't a villan , he helps the people in need He hates humans and their politics

While I think Geralt is a great character, I wouldn't say he's the best written protagonist. That would go to Arthur Morgan, or for me personally, Kratos from God if War (his character in the 2018 game was phenomenal). I actually find Geralt a more human and interesting character in the books, honestly.
Geralt is one of the best best protagonists, but I prefer characters you can shape yourself a bit. Shepard and the Inquisitor (Dragon Age Inquisition) are my favourites. The nameless from Planescape torment is also really good. I think its more immersive to define the character you're playing yourself.
While Zack is a likeable guy without question, he has no faults as a person which isn't my cup of tea. To my knowledge in Crisis Core he literally does nothing wrong, morally speaking.
@@Da1337Man Yes, that was the point of the character actually and is why he is detrimental to Cloud’s story, and it’s why the story of FF7 could not have happened without him! He’s what Cloud is meant to strive for. The real tragedy of his death is that HE was the hero, and it was HE that should’ve survived. The reason he died is precisely due to the type of man he was, he died so that his best friend (someone of much lesser ability and knowledge) could live. The story of FF7 could not have happened without him. He was the true hero of the story, and almost no one remembers him. He didn’t do it for fame or glory, he did it because it was right, even though it meant his death and his being branded a fugitive and wiped from the history books. His name isn’t remembered save by a select few, but his actions are felt the world over. “I am your living legacy.” Not every character has to be shadowy-eyed, tortured, morally ambiguous, and (this is something most people could stand to learn)… overly *relatable.* Some are meant to serve as an example and something for both us and other characters to look up to, to strive towards. Luke Skywalker (OT), Zack Fair, Jean Valjean, Superman, Samwise Gamgee, etc. Not all characters are meant to reflect what we are but rather, what we could be. To each their own!
I absolutely love Horizon Zero Dawn, but I fully agree with your assessment of Aloy. It didn't diminish my enjoyment of the game (like The Witcher 3, it's one of the few games I really felt like I "lived" in), but I would hope to see a bit more nuance and some more difficult choices in Forbidden West.
Arthur is a better character in general. What I like about Geralt though is how he likes to believe he doesn't care about anything or anyone, but in reality it's the opposite.
1 second in... geralt doesn't seriously remark that he has no emotions. He says it sarcastically in response to someone who knows nothing about witchers...
I think arthur morgan is superior because his story and character could have very well been real and I prefer this sense of realism but gerald of rivia is a very very strong second.
I like Shepard slightly more. Geralt is an already established character from the books, which lead me to play him by the book, literally. And no matter what you choose, Geralt is still the same Geralt. I felt much more personally connected to Shepard, because I had a huge influence on him, he was my avatar and his own character at the same time. He too was very well written, wasn't the chosen one, and his place was well established. I also love Arthur for similar reasons.
''He was not the chosen one'' Lol, i agree with everything else except this. By ME3 the galaxy sees Shepard as some sort of Chuck Norris figure. Shit, Garrus even says in 2 that ''The collectors killed you and all it did was piss you off''.
I think it's difficult to compare Aloy and Geralt as Geralt is just a man living his live and is in no way shape or form a hero whereas Aloy was literally created for the sole purpose of saving the world.
The Witcher 3 is the only game that made me feel a connection to the protagonist. It made me feel I’m part of it’s world and I’m controlling an actual human being, not just some mindless scripted character. Sure, some people might say that the game may not have many outcomes, not many dialogue options or that the game is too long and boring, but I strongly disagree and I know people are with me as well. It’s a long journey, that offers a lot and has great re-playability value. In the end it’s going to leave you missing the game if you move on to another, wishing you could experience it all from the begging just like the first time.

This is the reason I paid $122 for the books. The character of Geralt is very well written as is the witcher universe.
How you can forget edward kenway, ezio auditore
@@elitevivio3296 stfu ac fanboy ezio is a good protagonist but Edward? Nowhere near these three.
Well, I feel...
betrayed
That's why I play this game over and over again.
Show, don't tell isn't always applicable.
i love your content i am really glad that this got recomended to me
I've got a pretty personal connection to Revan from KOTOR or Shepard from Mass Effect (both Bioware characters), but I can get behind Geralt as a top pick.
Imo Geralt and Arthur is both the best protaganist in this era of gaming
I’m starting to think Avarti enjoys this game more than others.
My favorite protaganist is either Arthur, Geralt, or Nathan drake
Sam drake for me but I see ya
there is always something new to discover in this game. I remember seeing a few mages getting burned and why have not died yet so I decided to put out the fire around them and that aggroed all the guards around I was unable to beat them and died, I loaded the game and never saw that event again no matter how many new games I start.
I know it's kind of a meme here but I hope you continue doing Witcher videos. You're one of the best at them.
Name someone that went thru more pain than him. I’ll wait
Arthur Morgan
John marston
Jack uncle hey everyone almost in the gang of red Dead redemption expect for Micah because he is a vindictive fuck.
Bruh this is a man that was made to not feel anything, yet he ends up feeling so much through the course of the books and games. Almost like a blind, deaf, not able to smell, taste or feel gaining all those in less than five years
@@hashirmemesgaming9110 Kratos
I like this channel, *sees an Arthur reference* ok it’s official, I love this channel
Perfer Paragon Shepherd from Mass Effect, but there is no such thing as best protagonist its a matter of preference.
Arthur Morgan is the best video game protagonist. Geralt already has books. Arthur has 1 game and his story is just as impactful as Geralts.
That is a lie. Arthur never has any sort of second thoughts until he gets sick. He kills anyone who disagrees with them he doesn't ever show compassion to monsters or people trying to kill him like Geralt.
It doesn't matter whether one has books or not it matters about the writing in the game and we're talking about the game Witcher 3 here Arthur doesn't even come close unless you can prove otherwise
@@MartinJHenebury Arthur Morgan is one of the greatest ever characters in video gaming history. In my past 2 decades of gaming, I've never come across a character whose story arc is a pure delight to experience.
Arthur Morgan may not get you hooked right off the bat. In fact, the further you delve into the game, you get to see the numerous facets of this magnificent character. Arthur's compassion and loyalty is clearly seen but as the game progresses we get to see his vulnerability even though he comes across as a henchman.
Once he gets to know his fate, you can see how he begins to question the morality of Dutch's newfound ways or whether anything was ever real between the gang. Another heartbreaking moment is shown when despite his heart desperately wanting to run away with his lady love, he cannot think of betraying his gang
He wasn’t a hero but when he got sick he helped johns family too live in peace he was no hero but he died like one
Think first before saying anything
I agree with your analysis, Geralt is sophisticated , he realises that he can’t put the world to rights so he saves his energy and does not try to control the world, instead he controls himself and chooses to do what is possible, to take responsibility for his own choices however they turn out.
Okay, time to go replay the witcher 3...again.
thank you for giving my red dead redemption 2 spoiler thank you very much
no spoiler warning for red dead man god bless you
You hit the nail on the head, man.
you mean arthur morgan ?
Avatri i love you my G but common don't gotta spoil the ending for horzion i thouught this was a witcher video!...
Have you ever did a video about Regis? If not please do one.
Geralt is the Clint Eastwood of Fantasy....takes bounties, smooth talker, dry wit, great w/ the ladies, sharp jawline
Top 5 video game protagonists
1. Masterchief
2. Arthur Morgan
3. Geralt of Rivia
4. Ezio Auditore
5. John Marston
Masterchief? Why? Can you explain that to someone who never played Halo and only saw him as faceless warrior before?
@@sellingCiriasajob For a guy who is super quite in most the games somehow you really relate to him in the game, and the story fits in so well
Erm what about Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2?
Arthur morgan is an amazing character , ask yourself is he a good person , yes he had circumstances that made him cruel , I love him tbh but 90% of gamers only consider him the best bcz of the touching ending he had
He regretted what he did and that's good , geralt on the other hand ain't a classic hero but ain't a villan , he helps the people in need
He hates humans and their politics
Well the whole "no emotions" thing is just perpetuated by Witchers themselves so people don't fuck with them.
Playing this game, you also see that suppressing your emotions in this world is beneficial. People in that world are so fucked up.
Gerald is one of the best characters in gaming history but I think Athur in rdr2 is better
He is boah.
"Evil Is Evil. Lesser, Greater, Middling... Makes No Difference. The Degree Is Arbitrary. The Definition's Blurred. If I'm To Choose Between One Evil And Another... I'd Rather Not Choose At All." - #Geralt z Rivii
“Lack of something to feel important about is almost the greatest tragedy a man may have ” - #ArthurMorgan
Yay new video
For me, this is the best game... I can't get used to the idea that it ends...
I dont want Geralt out of the witcher games that will be coming next 😕
I dont want him to end like vesemir
I still want to play Geralt
Zack Fair from the FF7 anthology is my favorite, but yeah Geralt is also one of my personal best.
“I am your living legacy.”
Not every character has to be shadowy-eyed, tortured, morally ambiguous, and (this is something most people could stand to learn)… overly *relatable.* Some are meant to serve as an example and something for both us and other characters to look up to, to strive towards.
Johnny of Rivia
Avarti, can you make a "Why you should side with netwatch agent in Cyberpunk 2077"
Man. Geralt is great but I still this Arthur Morgan is the greatest gaming protagonist ever
The best games are those, where there's a thin line between cruelty and kindness, between black and white.....
Arthur is a better character in general. What I like about Geralt though is how he likes to believe he doesn't care about anything or anyone, but in reality it's the opposite.
I'm waiting for the reveal
Ashen haired is grey/silver. That is what ciri’s hair is SUPPOSED to look like. Geralt’s hair is pale white (supposed to be), he’s not ashen-haired.
1 second in... geralt doesn't seriously remark that he has no emotions. He says it sarcastically in response to someone who knows nothing about witchers...
I agree!!
I think arthur morgan is superior because his story and character could have very well been real and I prefer this sense of realism but gerald of rivia is a very very strong second.
Martin Walker, Spec ops the line...
John Marston and Arthur Morgan send their regards.
''He was not the chosen one''
Lol, i agree with everything else except this. By ME3 the galaxy sees Shepard as some sort of Chuck Norris figure. Shit, Garrus even says in 2 that ''The collectors killed you and all it did was piss you off''.
YES YES GERALT!!!!!!!
Well the best protagonist to me is and always will be the Nameless one, hero of GothicI, Gothic II and Gothic III games.
I think it's difficult to compare Aloy and Geralt as Geralt is just a man living his live and is in no way shape or form a hero whereas Aloy was literally created for the sole purpose of saving the world.
It comes down to personal preference but for me Geralt is the best.
and why he should be main character in witcher hope this isn't the end of he's story only 3 games he has to be in the witcher 4
Yes.
Dude what is that armor at 3:38 it looks so cool mind telling how to get it or is it a mod?
The Witcher 3 is the only game that made me feel a connection to the protagonist. It made me feel I’m part of it’s world and I’m controlling an actual human being, not just some mindless scripted character. Sure, some people might say that the game may not have many outcomes, not many dialogue options or that the game is too long and boring, but I strongly disagree and I know people are with me as well. It’s a long journey, that offers a lot and has great re-playability value. In the end it’s going to leave you missing the game if you move on to another, wishing you could experience it all from the begging just like the first time.
Should I buy The Witcher 3?
only if you want to
yea
Only you can answer this. The Game has its weaks but if its your type of game... than its absolutly amazing. I love The Witcher 3
there is only one correct answer for this question
Yes 100% should. I and many millions of people downright love the game. Its the best game i have ever played and if you do not buy this I promise you that you will regret it for the rest of your life. I have been through some hard times and the witcher 3 saved me. You will lose hundreds of hours into this game and promise you that you will adore it with all your heart. I recommend buying the game of the year edition as it includes the two big expansions which also are complete bangers. Thank me later :)

Geralt is nice, but Arthur Morgan is just another league.
If you think about it he was a bit of a scumbag, with his lifestyle and some of the things he did, he was a fantastically written scumbag that you grew to love, but Geralt just has more endearing qualities in my opinion.
