This is one of the many reasons why I wish the US would look at other countries more. The US has a larger population than most countries, especially in Europe, yet we live better than most Americans. We have workers rights and unions in place to go up against companies so employees don't have to do it alone and are protected. Apprentices (interns) are also paid for their work. If we can do it, the US definitely can, yet you don't. Too many don't believe it is possible because they don't know anything about life outside of the US.

      Internship shouldn’t end
It allows for a learning experience
It gives those that haven’t entered the job market yet a taste of the real world
That being said , interns are greatly exploited
The rules governing the internship must be followed
If not, then there are grounds for charges to be filed

Interns think they're providing value, but they're just babysat by the lowest-ranked employees. Hence the sort buttons and run errands. The intern's "job" is to show that they've got good judgement, a positive attitude, and professionalism doing basic tasks - then when a paid job opens up, they'll have a leg up on the competition ***if*** they made a good impression. Working in broadcast TV, I've seen soooooo many interns pull an attitude when told to make coffee by a receptionist or secretary. Of course the brats have no idea that the lowest person on the totem pole is their boss and they've just self-selected themselves out of advancing.

The role of an intern is supposed to be there to have a learning experience. They are just supposed to go get coffee and sit in and listen to meetings. And the more desirable the job. They could be unpaid internships. Who wouldn't want a summer job at a film company or The Row. But companies would exploit it and run them ragged having them do high level work for no pay. NY brought the hammer down on these companies finally. The Olsens are only one of many companies that did this.

Yeah, it’s a almost unheard of getting a paid internship in any fashion label. The pay once you get hired isn’t very good either. To get hired you also have to create free projects for the company? Plus it isn’t unheard of companies stealing ideas from students and aspiring applicants that show their portfolio. In all honesty, the problem isn’t very much Ashley and Mary-Kate but rather the whole industry itself.

I have been in the fashion industry for 20+ years longer if you include retail. Most people have the perception that it must be so much fun and so very glamorous. The reality is you work your ass off, sometimes you are paid well but most of the time it is just OK, a lot of people can be rather abusive, and it is cut throat. If you don’t have a thick skin it’s probably not the industry for you. And if you are going to cry it’s best to do it in the bathroom or outside.

I'm not saying they weren't over worked or they were treated right. But that's all hearsay. Pretty hard to prove in court. Even if 185 interns came forward. One woman started and I'm sure her lawyer was like let's try to find as many as we can to jump on the bandwagon so we look better. Whether they were all wronged or not is neither here or there. 140k is nothing compared to the costs of a trial. They made it clear they deny everything but settled out of court to avoid the mess that comes with a jury trial.

My friend once had a job taking care of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s horses and their stalls back in the 90’s. We’re all about the same age, so this is when we all (including Mary Kate and Ashley) were kids! She was suuuuuper excited to meet them and tell them how much she loved their films. However, when they actually met, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen snubbed their pretty little noses at my friend and we’re very short and dismissive. My friend was so heartbroken about it.

I then took on interns over 16 years to train them and help my own recertification. When I was a professor there also we made surprise visits to intern sites to see what they were learning. After the first intern reported this the university should never place students there again. If my interns were good I helped find them a job using my network of healthcare professionals and drug reps who always know of openings before they are listed. They knew being a good intern with me would lead to a great job either for me or with a colleague.

Hey! Just trying to be a little constructive. Sometimes the titles of your videos seem a bit over-dramatic, with words like exposed when it's more like someone giving an opinion or unsupported account, and in this case, writing their "own" employees is redundant since their employees are their own by definition. It sounds nit-picky, but in my recommended, the cut-off was after "own" which implied to me that it would be someone notably close to them, like a parent or friend, etc. I really enjoy your videos and it's not a big issue or anything, but it's something I think about. Your videos are interesting enough without using inflating words, in particular because you're always thorough in your disclaimers on what is and isn't supported.
