Right here is where Australia's rugby woes begin. The AFL, the NRL and Football Australia all understand that investment in the grassroots level of the game is vital to the future of their games in identifying, nurturing and raising their next generation of top level players. It is also a key factor in getting engagement from local communities. Rugby Australia has neglected this end of the game for far too long, preferring to pour their money into the top end - trying buy success by using quick-fixes such as importing players and code swapping league has-beens. There are no quick fixes. RA needs to invest heavily in this level of the game, even if it means sacrificing success for a while at the elite end.

The NRL poach all the promising rugby players in Aus and in Auckland. I don't call that "nurturing". However, they are free to do it of course!

    • @davidanderson4091

@@peterpiper482 Correct to a point. They poach some, but not "all" otherwise we, NZ, would not have any talented players left. Last time I looked, we have plenty in NPC, Super Rugby and U18 level. This is where Rugby Australia need to be spending their money... competing with the NRL for player contracts not buying in players like Folau

@@peterpiper482not so much in Auckland. They get some but Rugby still gets plenty I.e Xavier Harris etc. Plenty of good rugby players in NZ in fact far more than league.

As a Kiwi i think the Aussies actually played pretty good. Kept us at 3 a piece at halftime. Unfortunately because of being 1 man down (Red card) the Aussies had to overextend. Taking it's toll in the second half which let a few points in. Could of quite easily been a very closely contested game if the odds were even. Just my opinion.

What a horrible mistake from the young aussie centre. He actually was gonna try and tackle him in the air. I don't care how young you are, that's just dumb. He must be good but brainless players like him are a real liability and are not wanted by teams in this card giving age of rugby. This just totally ruins games. Respect to Australia for defending like demons a man down. They might well have won I reckon. Costly as fk mistake. Hopefully theres another test. That openside flanker for NZ looks promising.
