Good info, thank you for sharing! I would be interested in changing that controller board on the motor, AND, updating to it's matching newer foot pedal as well (which is still readily available as of 2022) It would also save the step of changing foot pedal connectors to the controller. I battle with the original pedal due to its control locations, the newer style makes more sense to function for me.
my wiring was a bit different. the yellow, white, brown, black, red, etc.... coming out of the spiral cord from the head of the motor didn't get plugged in at all. they were just left inside the center section just unplugged from anything. as my v2 board didn't even have the corresponding wires coming out of the board. everything still worked as normal. so strange. did I do something wrong? or order the wrong board? im assuming those wires are for the autopilot. EDIT I just realized that I ordered the board for v1 W/O autopilot. MAKE SURE TO ORDER THE CORRECT BOARD
So this is an update to be able to use V2 foot pedal? then in oder to upgrade to ipilot you need to update the head unit? Would you have a part number for this?
Does this model of minn kota have the I pilot ? Im searching for a wiring diagram for the Powerdrive V2 between the sensor board and the control board. Btw good video!
I've had the steering go out on several autopilot boards. The culprit is usually a transistor. They used 2 each, TIP41 and TIP42, to create the H-bridge that allows the steering motor to be driven both directions. If autopilot only corrects 1 direction, it is likely that one of those transistors has failed. I have replaced the faulty component on one of my boards, but haven't patched the potting or put it back in service.
@@mrdiscotoyou i had one to go out so replaced the steering motor switch with a window switch out of a 1994 chevy truck and ran the prop motor through a 12 volt speed controller off e bay for around $12.00 , that is a cheep fix but it works . i later found a used board off a newer like the video . i replaced it like the video
Update, pedal contacts are laid out differently. V2s have 6 wires where v1s have 7, I had to update my control board and just use the v2 pedal as is. Also, tip, if you decide to update your control board to use the newer foot pedals, make sure you are purchasing the correct one for your motor. Either with or without autopilot, I made the mistake of buying the one with auto when I didn’t have a yellow/green wire to connect. Was able to exchange but just wanted to let you folks know! Happy fishing!
@@BottledUpFunk I initially bought the autopilot control board by mistake and had to return it because the wiring from the head unit is different. The auto pilot control board has additional wires (green and yellow) that won’t work with the non-ap version head unit.
I was hoping to see how to get the dang cover off that houses the controller without breaking anything but you didn't disassembly or reassembly. Bummer!
Everyone says that the v1 is analog and the V2 is digital. In theory the motors don't know it's either one. But the copilot is V1 analog it's kind a strange it is talking to digital V2 control board??? Everyone is working for Minn Kota that is saying this apparently.
Nick Giallo great I have the board came today I’m going to hook it up like you did just in case foot pedal is bad but sure it’s the board thanks again. I’ll let you know
I got ripped off on a auto pilot v2 the foot control doesn't work and he didn't have the remote he told me its cheap to buy another remote well its not blue toothso this is my final option im praying it works.
Did this to my version 1 watching this video, worked great! Good idea to keep new plug in circuit incase old foot pedal goes bad.👍
you are welcomed
I had a controller go bad on my v1 24v powerdrive. I spliced in a v2 control to the v1 board. Works good, even my autopilot works.
@@jimholtse928 you are welcome
Thank you very much, this worked on my power drive v1. Back up and fishing
You are welcome
Always trying to help us fisherman
Thank you Nick, today following your video I changed my control board for $200 dollars US. a big savings
Your welcome I like to helping others

Very helpfull, run at 100%, save hundreds of $$$
thank you that was my objective
what gauge tiny wires are on that new v2 board

This looks like it would allow the installation of the I Drive system on the older version of the Powerdrive motors? Am I thinking correctly?
Yes that is correct
If river does he mean I pilot?
I have a v1 minn kota power drive without the pilot system, flat plug, do you think the new board will work using the existing pedal?
Yes it should
Just wire it back
Solder and shrink tubing would make a cleaner install
so is it the caps that dry out to cause the failure? If so why doesn't minn kota design them for replacability?

Thank you for this info my power drive board does not have a number on it it has faded out so how can I be sure of fit
You best bet is the Minikona web site
Could I in theory, use a v2 pedal for pd1 control board with this concept by just swapping the pedals female plug?
I think it should work
@@nickgiallo7597 I think I’ll try it and keep both plugs to see if I can swap between v1 and v2 like you did except for the pedal

No I kept it
If I want to use the foot control of my V 1 I will have to change is that correct?
Anyone try a V2 board in old white top Powerdrives 765mxt circa 1999?

My working great 👍
my minni kota is not working I think the board is bad. where I can buy the board
Did the foot pedal still work didn’t show mines a 2001 auto pilot would this board still work
Yes it does for both

Why cant you wire the plugs on a copilot v2 to i v1? As long as you have the right pinout right with your wires why would this not work?
Yes it would
Mine runs backwards. What did I do wrong?
Reverse the polarity
Would this work on the 24 v
I am not sure
i have a bad control board#2304043 will this mod work it has the auto pilot too...thanks
I am not sure
sir where did you buy the board
I also would like to know
