    How does this start at Sona not using a microwave and transition to Sona’s husband is solely responsible for the Chernobyl disaster

      You have to work it out in reverse.
      Tak causes Chernobyl.
      This makes Armenians inherently scared of radiation.
      Therefore, Tak is both the cause of Chernobyl, and of Sona not having a microwave.

    I love how Conan wanted to have a serious conversation about this, without joking or any disrespect, just being curious and all, but he tormented Sona so much over all those years with turning everything into a mean joke that now she expects him to do it always, even when he's trying to be nice and have an interesting conversation with her. So the second he asks her about her husband being near Chernobyl, she immediately goes 'He has nothing to do with it!'. Oh man, I love them so much.

      @Captain I believe Conan was wondering if Tac had somehow been personally affected by the Chernobyl incident (lost a loved one/friend) and therefore has some trauma associated with radiation.... cuz that's kinda how Sona said it, "Do we want that radiation in our house?" Not many think of a microwave in this way anymore

    • @gwenwalravens8030
      @gwenwalravens8030 3 года назад +12

      "Food changes, texture and taste, after being microwaved"
      That's total bs. It is the exact opposite. It doesn't change as much as when it is being cooked on a stove. A microwave heats from the inside out. A stove cooks from the outside inwards.
      "A French chef, originally from Armenia, taught me this -- so true!"
      No it is nonsense. Food from a microwave doesn't taste as good because it doesn't change the food as much. That's why a microwave is terrible to make a steak (you want to destroy/alter the cells in the meat) but perfect for vegetables because a microwave will keep more nutrients intact.
      You just need to know what to use and not generalise food in general.

    • @BryceLK
      @BryceLK 2 года назад +2

      @Gwen Walravens Understanding that it's literally vibrating the water molecules available inside the dish you have inside the microwave makes a huge difference, too. If you're reheating something that's not already liquid based or has some type of crust, just sit a glass of water _beside_ your dish so there is more moisture to pull from without drying it out and making it taste different from how it was intended. Pizza is the easiest example of this but it can be anything - even vegetables. Heat your broccoli without frying the tops immediately. If your food is evolving, you're probably just doing something wrong. 😅

    I'm from the Caucasus, grew up in Russia. My father's friend and business partner is Armenian, so our families have always been friends. Both of our families didn't have microwave ovens until like mid-2000s. But once they became easily accessible and cheap enough, both of us bought it and been using them ever since. I don't think it's an Armenian cultural thing. It's just that Soviet people grew up without it, and some of them are apparently resistant to change.

    I love how Conan gets so defensive, but nonetheless refuses to back down from the bit. The more Conan insists on whatever tiny detail, the more people try to challenge him on it. And the more they challenge him on it, the more absurd it gets.
    It starts off with "Your boyfriend was near Chernobyl."
    "No, he was in the same country, but nowhere near Chernobyl."
    "He was AT Chernobyl. Like, at the factory when it happened."
    "No, he wasn't. He was at a summer camp, which wasn't near Chernobyl."
    "Not only was he at Chernobyl, but I SAW HIM IN THE CHERNOBYL MOVIE."
    "That's just insensitive."
    "And now he has radioactive powers."

    She makes valid points. Reheating spaghetti is a pain in the ass using a microwave, because it will inevitably in some areas taste ice cold. It's better to keep the sauce and noodles separate instead of mixed together in a tupperware container, and recook it using the stove. Damn I sound like Jordan.

    • @omgvague
      @omgvague 3 года назад +1

      You're absolutely right though. Tomato sauces become dry really fast in microwaves so you have to splash a little water on it to keep it moist but that just dilutes the flavor.
