    I hope you enjoy this video :) I never said, but the pie we made was pumpkin pie for Canada's Thanksgiving! It was DELISH! My favourite dessert! Let me know below what you think of the floor? Will we get lucky and find a cool floor? Or do you think it'll be bog standard concrete? My guess is concrete!

    • @morrigans_cottage
      @morrigans_cottage  3 месяца назад +1

      It’s such a great mystery! The only thing I can think of is either a. The leaking hot water tank (it’s the smallest droplet leak so very minor) is somehow affecting a lot more of the rooms than I thought, or there’s problems with one of the two external walls of that room and when the plaster and floor is off we’ll find the big problems, but it’s such a mystery! Love and hugs from me and the girls ❤️

Aisling, I think you made the right decision on getting the loan so at least you can make a start - but I know it will be so much easier for you once it's approved that you and the girls can live at the homestead. I can't wait to see you all cosy and warm once the heating and stove are done. I wonder if it’s a central heating pipe cemented into the floor that’s leaking ? Or perhaps a natural spring that’s seeping up …. We had a cottage years ago and the kitchen would have puddles of water after very heavy rain - usually around march/april . It was fixed by digging out floor and having draining pipes and gravel bed under a newly poured floor .

    • @morrigans_cottage
      @morrigans_cottage  3 месяца назад +2

      I am really hoping it’s not either of those things, it’s not majorly damp but definitely moist, I’m hoping once all the plaster is
      Off and floors are up I’ll get a better idea of what’s causing it, these pesky old houses filled with mysteries!

  • @TheAwakeningangel
    @TheAwakeningangel 3 месяца назад +1

    Lord that damp is just so frustrating but I still wonder if that boiler in the next room is leaking out and this is the result, as for the wall having to be taken down Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the last owners really need a slap I swear. however find a positive to every negative that being, have a really good think of what you would like now, as you could have an amazing window in the kitchen bring in all the light. Even one you could make as a window seat the ideas are endless. I hope you survived the storm it was a nasty one, no damage to us but pretty messy with branches one tree down thankfully in the plot over. And would you not think they have more than one guy doing the houses being as they know many applying for grants and so on. Anyway I have fingers and all crossed for this week, so keep safe and hugs sent to you al. I might just add my address so you can send me a pumpkin pie lol, never did taste one. xxxxxx Dede xx

I think it’s still on but I’ll find out if there was any damage on Sunday! Hopefully no more storms for a while for us but it is that time of year! Definitely an oppportunity to rethink the back walls, I’ll have to find out if any planning permission would be needed to change window sizes etc! And yes absolutely once I’m settled in the house I’ll get making the pumpkin pies and you’re more than welcome to one! Love to you from me and the girlies ❤️❤️❤️

    • @morrigans_cottage
      @morrigans_cottage  3 месяца назад +1

      So the house is built into a slope and the front of the house outside is indeed higher than the inside so maybe that’s causing the problem 🥲

  • @mildredarnold4052
    @mildredarnold4052 3 месяца назад

    Ashley, I am wondering what is on the outside of the house is it lime order or is it cement mortar? If it’s cement you may want to get it off of there because the stones need to breathe in the cement doesn’t allow it to breathe. Also the paint if it’s not the right kind of paint, the stones can’t breathe. I just know this from watching many RUclips channels on refinishing stone walls pointing them. I just thought I’d let that be out there for you.

    • @morrigans_cottage
      @morrigans_cottage  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks so much for the tip! To be honest I’m not sure what’s on the outside of the house, I had been told that it’s externally dry lined but I would guess not done properly 😂 I’d guess cement on it too and will definitely need to be taken off at some point! Thanks a mil for the info I’ll deffo look into it :)

    • @mildredarnold4052
      @mildredarnold4052 3 месяца назад

      Just don’t want you to have more headaches in the future. That being said I would make sure about your foundation all the way around your house too. This is just a thought when you do your foundation if it needs it I would big a trench to the curb drainage and put in a slotted pipe with a cover that you wrap that pipe and then cover with compacted gravel over that to take the moisture by the home away.

    Hi Aisling. I think maybe when they laid the concrete floors perhaps they didn't do any damp proofing, like a damp proof membrane. That would be a possible reason for damp even on internal walls. As far as the back wall of the cottage is concerned maybe if it has to come down it would be an opportunity to have a larger window. If you have no plans to reinstate a fireplace in the kitchen you could even remove the chimney breast and have a door. Plenty of possibilities. Take care

    • @morrigans_cottage
      @morrigans_cottage  3 месяца назад +1

      I would imagine a damp proof membrane wasn’t installed, I’d take a guess the concrete floors (presuming that’s what they are in full) were laid 60/70 years ago before membrane would have been super common in these old houses! It’ll be interesting to see what we find once everything is pulled off! I was actually thinking of adding an additional window to the kitchen, but I’ll have to check if planning permission would be needed for that or not! Thanks so much for all the suggestions ❤️

      In these islands(Ireland and Britain) water seeps in from a lack of damp proof courses and the floor level being lower than the ground outside- which Aisling mentioned . It is very common in old cottages.
