    I love going to the Goodwill Outlet stores. I call them Goodwill pound stores as you buy by the pound instead of by the piece. I can get a huge cart full of t-shirts for about $30. This would make at least 20 rugs. I make them to use while camping inside the tent. I have also made plarn (yarn made from plastic shopping bags) mats to go under the rugs to use outside the tent under our 10x10. It really helps when it rains. And the rugs are washable so I dont care how dirty they get.

    Can you please go over the end of the row going over the rods. It started great then when I went to just one warp, I'm sure something went wrong! Do you ever just weave around just the rod? What did I do wrong? After I do this I get confused, you said to always have weave between 2 pieces of fabric and this throws everything off. Can you give greater detail please. And sorry about the name my grandson's did it and I don't know how to change it lol.. love your videos thanks so much

      You don't want to weave around just the rod, but you can have just one strip of fabric along with the rod - that is perfectly fine!! Watching this video, the thicker knit was probably a double knit. As I watched, your 1.5 inch wide t-shirt shrank to less than half an inch as your pulling on the t-shirt material, it stretched. Perhaps, if you cut the t-shirt material at 2 inches, perhaps it would be more in line in each stitch as far as size with the navy fabric?

      @@DIYOnTheHouse By the way! I decided to try twining a cotton fabric rug .... the single stranding is KILLING me! (Not really), but it is waaayyyy too slow. I am contemplating changing to a two strand like normal, but life keeps getting in the way! LOL. I will get back to the green rug at some point ... I just wanted to let you know that I have tried twining - - not a fun date.
      And, I am gathering t-shirts for a knit fabric rug - - I will be using my selvedges from cotton fabric for the warp (or is it weft?) ... whatever it is that goes up and down LOL
      and when I run out of selvedge, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be stranding the foundations from the overabundance of crochet thread that I have accrued.

  • @akbums4823

    Is the warp a thicker Polyester fabric then the t-shirts? My husband made this loom from your husbands easy to follow loom video, thank you... I have made several twined rag rugs from cotton, all turned out great. I also weaved smaller rugs recycling from 2 larger 20 year old blue jean rugs with broken warp threads. Since I did not have boughten warp thread at the time (live in AK & orders for warp thread are delayed due to the virus) I used the string from a used house water filter (soaked and rinsed out) for the warp, doubled,leaving enough string at both ends to tie into knots with fringe. I am trying to figure out a way to dye enough filter string without it ending up in a tangled mess. Maybe wrapping around PVC pipe to soak in dye... Your rag rug videos are so easy to follow. Up next, thanks to your easy to follow videos, I plan to try the weaving yarn/strings rug and this one twining stretch material. Thank you very much for this addictive new hobby which helps to keep me sane during this stressful time.

    I'm confused. At what point when you first start the rug do you switch from going in between the warp threads to around the warp threads? I always see at the end of the rug you are going under the two warps around the nails and then you switch to going under the nails for the end row, but I never see the transition in the beginning. Thanks 😊

    • @DIYOnTheHouse
      @DIYOnTheHouse  3 года назад +1

      GREAT question! After you go under the nails, that will create a gap. There will be two strands, then a gap. You just follow that gap -- so you are always weaving over and under two strands of warp. This video may show it with a better camera angle.
