Thanks guys. I'm from Ukraine and we do experience darkness. We see and hear so many horrible things everyday. At moments I felt as my love and sensitiveness faded. It really seemed like darkness. But when you quoted Isaiah 9:2 it really hit me, it gives me hope and desire to see that great light. It helps me to look forward to Jesus to will reign and make things right

I loved the idea of Chapter 6 being like a sacrament meeting. We come to the sacrament altar on Sunday, repentant and willing, but not yet worthy to be there. Then angels in the form of 12 year old deacons offer us the symbols of the atonement to put on our lips and we become worthy and pure to be there. Maybe that's why we take the sacrament at the beginning of the meeting, so that we are purified to receive what the spirit has to teach us during the rest of the meeting that follows. 🙂
Wow! That's deep!
When my son (who has autism) was 10 years old, the Primary had deacons and talk to them about the Aaronic Priesthood. When we came into sacrament meeting, before it started, he said to me, "Mom, I have to go sit with my friends." He said it about 5x. Finally I said ok. Well.....needless to say he went to sit with the deacons at the sacrament alter. I was trying to get him to come back and sit down with me and my Bishop looked at me. In my Bishops eyes was a look of, "It's ok Sister Wilkinson, his heart is in the right place and go sit down." The deacon to his left whispered to him that he could sit but not help pass the sacrament. My son obeyed. When my son turned 12, he passed the sacrament with all his heart in it. Now his just got the Melchizedek Priesthood a few months ago, and his calls the blessing oil "blessed oil."
Isaiah is like the Picasso of scriptures. He writes with all perspectives present at once. Just like learning to sit with abstract art in order to come to an understanding, it is well to learn to sit with Isaiah and contemplate what perspective he is addressing. Sometimes it's one perspective at a time, and sometimes it's past, present and future all at once, sometimes he speaks to a specific audience and sometimes to many different audiences all at one time.

Thank you for sharing your personal story/experience with Isaiah 6 David Butler - that is very helpful to me. Because of struggles with anxiety I often go to sacrament meeting feeling like I don't belong there and maybe my flaws are too big for Christ to fix and redeem, so to know that I am not alone in that struggle of feeling that way, it is so comforting, and to think that, like you, I can have that faith that Christ's sacrifice is big enough and more than efficient to cleanse and heal me, that is so empowering. I am more determined to go to partake of the sacrament knowing that His grace is sufficient.
I listened to this last night while I painted my family room. I enjoyed it so much. At church today I realized we did not assign anyone to teach in YW. I said, "I'll teach!" Amazingly the lesson went well. Your suggestions were perfect. We had a good discussion and the spirit was there. Much more than I ever hoped for a lesson about Isaiah! Thank you!!! (And my family room looks AMAZING) 😆
My first exposure to Isaiah was when I was 14 (over 50 years ago)and I was privileged to join Masterworks Chorus at Modesto Jr. College. The conductor happened to be the organist at the First Christian Church, where I was a member and sang in the choir. He invited me and my best friend to come sing in Handel's "Messiah." Since then, I have sung "Messiah" more times than I can count and the work resonates with my soul more deeply every time. But, transversely, whenever I read the words of Isaiah (or the other scriptures)that are used in the libretto, I actually hear the music of Handel attached to those words. This was a wonderful post; thank you so much!
I taught this lesson today and basically just mimicked the way you taught and I love that you’re teaching how we can teach now! It was the best lesson I’ve taught which I think was extra awesome since it’s beginning a “hard” book. I teach the 16-18 year olds in Sunday school and they each drew all three people with markers on their own paper and we compared drawings. They love anything interactive and physically active. It keeps the hour long class from getting too boring. Thank you!!!
With the part about the excess leading to bondage for me I see that as possessions in our homes the things we choose to have in them shouldn't hold us back from being able to go and do the Lord's work inside and outside our house. Example I have seen the most often is with people with trauma that turn into hoarders end up bound to their things and can't function. Their houses become full of filth not for lack of trying to keep it clean but because they feel so overwhelmed and it's a deep dark pit they feel alone in. And when people who are willing to look beyond that for the beautiful person hidden behind their attachments it is the washing clean feeling of joy that someone showed up and not just once but that they continue to show up and bring the spirit of Christ into their darkness where they had our up the metaphorical umbrella.
WOW, such a great lesson. I was an Isaiah avoider and felt an unworthiness due to my inability to understand it. The clouds parted in today’s lesson.

Especially as the temple is where Heavenly Father and Jesus promise as we keep our Covenants we will be crowned with their glory. Such an amazing promise, right??! Who wouldn't want that above the what the world offers!

When David spoke about discarding his CDs after being inspired by a fireside, it reminded me of King Lamoni's father's prayer when he was taught by the great Book of Mormon missionary, Aaron. In Alma 22:18, he prays, ...and I will give away all my sins to know thee..." One of the greatest rewards of any teacher or speaker would be to inspire such a repentant spirit in the souls of their listeners.
Teaching this in Primary today. 1) It sounds like the people of Issiahs day are a lot like our day, we turn away from The Lord. 2) I remember when going as my son's chaperone (he has autism, epilepsy, mental illness, and diabetes) to our ward youth conference in 2017. We went to Manti, UT to see the Mormon Miracle Pagent and do some temple work. That temple is on a hill and you see it all over the Sanpete Valley. At the Pagent, we met many of the actors and they challenged us to bear our testimonies on social media. The people who were there came from many nations faiths. I took the challenge with tears running down my face.

I always learn so much from your lessons. Thank you!!! I have struggled with Isaiah. I decided a few years ago that I wanted to learn more. The first book I read was "Isaiah for AirHeads" by John Bytheway. It really helped me get started. I would suggest it for someone who wants a start on how to understand Isaiah. The story that Emily told at the end about meeting the woman who was “taking a break” could be me. My husband and I had the following discussion about remaining strong almost word for word. It’s nice to know that there are others out there who are struggling to stay strong through all the craziness that exists, sometimes even in our church organization/ culture. It’s a good reminder to stand as a witness to others especially in our own faith community. I’m so thankful for you both.

There is a beautiful song about Isaiah 6 called “You Are Holy”, by Christ For The Nations. It’s a great way to bring The Spirit into your study of Isaiah! Just thought I’d share.
I think 3:16 Isaiah is cautioning the church organization and it's members, not just women in particular, (church symbolized by a woman/bride) to not become vain and excessive. What would the church itself in bondage look like?
Yes! This isn't a lesson about modesty. Rather it's a caution about pride and vanity

I'm more than I week late, but I want to say something about the "tinkling ladies." When I want to do some "light reading," I've chosen to read about the regency era in England (most always by LDS authors. David's drawing reminded me of the way women "were dressed" for balls during "the Season." They were arrayed in the most expensive, fine, haute fashion of the time, in order to impress the "ton." So much excess! Thank you for all of the understanding you bring to these lessons!

A thought; what is over compensation? What is the right amount of compensation? When does it go a step to far? Is it when we know our challenges, but are trying to hide them under pride, rather than fixing them?

Another Bible version that I found is called the Modern Reader's Bible. The language is close to the KJV. It has been written in Literary form, in poetry, prose, essays etc. It is not a "study" Bible but it makes reading the Bible much easier. It was originally published in the lated 1800's and the version I have was published in 1963. I don't know the latest publication of this Bible.

The one thing I do not hear as part of the excess in rainment is tattooing.
We can think of many of the women in the western cultures that wear many rings and earrings and facial rings, and I also see much of the excess is in the high class of the Hindu women and their raiment. They are so beautiful and graceful and yet in excess. How much is too much? Does it have to do with pride and lifting ones self up leaving out humility?? Wow! I should have waited until later in the video as it answered these questions. Cool!

While yes from the only way Isaiah knows women like that to dress from his time that picture looks good but for our time we could simply say women who care about money and diamonds. Women who wear the high-end clothes that cost a ridiculous amount of money. The wear several pieces of jewelry that might cost more than her homes. They buy name brand clothes like Vera Wang dresses that could feed a family for a year or more. Basically think of your celebrity women or rich women and the fashion they wear and what they really care about to really apply it to our day

Nobody seems to be aware that there are two different YHWH's and two different Old Testaments and it's weird...
The Kuntillet ‘Ajrud inscriptions mention blessings by the names of YHWH of Samaria (Yehowah) and YHWH of Teman (Yahweh).
Like all ancient Near Eastern gods, these two regional gods must have had central temples.
This article examines their possible locations and suggests that the combination of the Kuntillet ‘Ajrud inscriptions with the eighth-century prophecies of Amos and Hosea holds the key for identifying these.
In light of a detailed analysis of Hosea’s and Amos’ prophecies, it is further suggested that YHWH of Samaria was the name of the major God of the Kingdom of Israel and his main temple was located at Bethel, and that YHWH of Teman was the name of the God of the southern desert regions and his temple was located at Beer-sheba.
Israelite traders who traveled southward probably visited the latter god’s temple, offered him sacrifices, made vows to repay him if they succeed in the expedition, and thus turned him to be their patron god during their travel in the desert region.
This suggested identification explains why the Judahite cult place of Beer-sheba appears in Amos’ prophecy alongside the Israelite sanctuaries of Bethel, Gilgal, and Dan.
What do Samaritans believe in terms of the Bible?
Samaritans believe that the Jewish Torah, and Judaism, have been corrupted by time and no longer serve the duties that God mandated to the Israelites on Mount Sinai. The holiest site for Samaritans in their faith is Mount Gerizim near Nablus, while Jews view the Temple Mount in Jerusalem as their most sacred location.
The Samaritan religion:
Their principal canonical text and main norm of religious observance is the Samaritan Pentateuch. The Samaritan Pentateuch contains the basic text of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, yet there are about 6,000 differences between it and the masoretic Jewish version.
Why did the Judahites not like the Samaritans?
The Jews called them "half-breeds" and sent them home. The Samaritans built their own temple which the Jews considered pagan. The feud grew, and by the time of Christ, the Jews hated the Samaritans so much they crossed the Jordan river rather than travel through Samaria.
