Yeah that last story is baffling. I'm 99% sure that patient confidentiality is only broken when there is a real risk of physical harm to someone. That is the only circumstance where a medical professional might reveal your medical details to someone else (likely the police). Its possible rules are different in different parts of the world.
As far as ik therapist can only notify cops if they prove to be a danger to themselves or others. However lawyers cant tell anything without losing their licenses with some exceptions
