Driving El Reno, OKlahoma | Route 66 to the Twistex Memorial

El Reno, Oklahoma has received extra attention recently as the city appears in the 2024 summer blockbuster movie Twisters.
The famous and historic Route 66, known as the Mother Road or Main Street of America, passed through El Reno. This video begins on the west side of El Reno along Route 66. We drive through the middle of town, while making all of the turns to stay on the most prominent alignment of Route 66.
This video concludes by driving to the TWISTEX Memorial.
Located in the middle of Tornado Alley, one of the largest and most violent tornadoes ever recorded passed near El Reno in 2013. This tornado claimed the life of three famous tornado researchers. Tim and Paul Samaris with Carl Young formed the TWISTEX team. This multiple vortex tornado took an unpredictable turn which the three could not escape. Their mangled car was found in the rural farmland, and the memorial is located there today.
