this is why it's so disingenuous to say that the dodgers simply buy their roster. Outman was a 7th rounder who tore up AAA but never got respect in the prospect rankings and Bobby Miller I believe was the last pick of the first round of the 2020 draft. As we see time and time again with namely the Rays, Dodgers, and Astros, it's all about drafting and development, the big payroll is just the cherry on top.
Plus outman was an older prospect so that was against him

Dodgers know how to play the margins. Even though they lost so many players in the offseason the new guys they brought in have been producing. Heyward, rojas, peralta, jd, etc

its not so much scouting, every team is scouting the same guys pretty much, it's can you take that guy and develop him into a big league ball player. the yankees CONSTANTLY get amazing prospects and rush them to the big leagues and they fail bc they are nowhere near ready.

They definitely have some solid players who you can actually go into 2024 counting on from the rookies this year. Not all of them were hits at least in year one but a few were. With the free money they have and deep farm to make trades not including guys like miller or outman is also huge. They also just signed the Korean HS player who was supposed to go #1 in their draft. Those league are way more competitive to the US than people think. They don’t come over here often for other reasons it’s definitely not lack of talent so basically they got another future top 50 prospect likely higher .. imo they sign ohtani and urias comes back on a 1 year prove it deal. Urias knows he’s a 200 mil pitcher but nobody is gonna pay him that after this year. It may seem unfair but it’s the truth. I think he signs a one year 23-25 mil deal with LA to stay one more year where he’s comfortable and knows. Have a better season and cash in on his deal. He’ll be 28 next year he’s not old so I think they can get ohtani and keep him as your two big pieces.
James defensive performance definitely leveled up after Jonny Deluca promoted to the Majors and make a couple great catch
it has nothing to do with deluca 😂 outman has been working with the coaches all season to improve his first step and routes.

Aside from signing ohtani the dodgers need to be willing to trade anyone who isn’t miller, outman and one of rushing or cartaya . Betts and freeman are both still in their prime not exactly young. How often do you get two players like that on the same time ? They need to do everything to capitalize on their careers.. the dodgers develop like 3 new young top prospects every year and next year will be no different

Outman is playing well now, but for a stretch there (about 6 weeks) he was absolutely deplorable.
He spoke about how in April it felt like he could pretty much crush every pitch, so he would swing at every pitch. It worked for a while, but eventually it led to a lot of k's. He's learned to be more selective with what he swings at, so his current form is much more sustainable than it was back then.
