hahah what a throwback! I'm still in the Counter-Strike Pro Mod's steam group. I was really hopefully it would become nothing, but it never materialized
CSPromod was still somehow active by the end 2013, I remember playing it and 2-3 players were online in deathmatch games but what actually killed the game was the SteamPipe update because it broke the mod and it was a hassle to get it to work. Despite all of that, a modified standalone version of the mod was released that did not require Steam and it was just launch and play with bots. The download link is long gone but thankfully I still have it stored. EDIT: Download link in my community tab
Nice video! A little inside view on Classic-Offensive: It isn't so much that Zool is a perfectionist, it is much more that Valve's updates to CS:GO kept breaking Classic Offensive. But it is fair to say the finish line is in sight! (It's been fun to work on it this past year)
5:20 are you sure the community content still defines CS in 2024? CS2 literally has no community servers with custom maps apart from Russian fake servers. No fy, gun game, minigame or just custom maps in general, even though there's plenty on the workshop. I had a guy commenting that people don't play for fun anymore but only to compete...
@@yeetskie It doesn't. 10 months later and still no fy, custom/workshop, gungame, pubs. People go crazy when they readd train, which is older than the average age of the CS2 player by this point. Fun is something that has been eradicated from CS2, everyone wants to compete, even though there's nothing to compete for. What is the end goal in playing the same 5 maps over and over again? People only have one life with rougly 75 years, why waste so much of it playing the same thing over and over again. It's a waste of time

The one thing I miss most from 1.6 is being able to pick your character model. Arctic Avengers forever! I refuse to pay for character skins. The ones they have in CS2 borderline break the game. Some are hard to see, some get confused for the opposing team, some are just horrible to begin with and are a disadvantage to use. It's annoying.
In the late 2000s, this mod was a hot topic. Hell, tons of community made maps were made for this mod and all that effort was for nothing. The devs truly gave up because in 2014 when they ceased operations with the mod, the skin market and gambling were at its peak in CSGO. It made sense to step aside.
honestly, even valve forgets about condition zero, they didn't include it in the cs2 trailer but really its just 1.6 but with more content and hd models
great video, cspromod was the shit, in my younger years i couldn’t even play it properly due to not owning cs:s since it needed a method to drag all the assets from css into that game
Looking at it, it seems like there was a lot of nostalgia and "the old way was better because it's the old way" like the grenades, buying ammo, death animations, small stuff like that, so I don't know how much of that would have creeped in eventually considering it actually took work to make those changes.
I remember this mod but didn't know it was abandoned. Regarding the fact that the valve does not help them: in my opinion, this is logical from their point of view. They make cs2 and don’t want to create a competitor for themselves who will take away some of their players, even if not the majority
You should try making sliding transitions to compare maps sometimes, like 3kliksphilip does. I know it might take some time, but it makes it much easier to spot the differences and adds to the video's quality.

Listen. I do not think you realize that Russian websites had remakes. And the whole game that comes with mods before this came out. And they still do and most of them are better than this. Plus this remake didn't understand why CS 1,6 was so loved. It's because of the variety of all game modes and that feel. Which this remake did not manage to catch.
Oh i thought some of the weapons are banned, turned out, they haven't been added yet. But how so? For it to work, shouldn't it be easy to just move all the weapon-related files and folder to their game folder?

In my opinion, Counter-Strike not just needs a new game that would satisfy everyone, but a game that refreshes the whole series. Because, right now CS that we have, has many problems. From the fact that when killed you have to wait until either side wins the round to respawn and keep playing, or from the fact that kills happens randomly. Like, you shooting at the opponent and you are missing every single bullet while he shoots you not even aiming and kills you every time. That problem has to be solved. And the solution is simple: make shots permanent. Like, if you shoot right at the model of your opponent then bullets should go straight in to him, and if you miss your shot then you miss it. No excuse. As for other few problems you might say that there is Deathmatch mode, where you will respawn and continue playing. And to that I will say that Deathmatch mode is too old. Sure, it is fun but first 20 minutes. After that it gets too boring too quickly. So I give my solution to this. Combine classic mode with Deathmatch mode. Like, start like in classic mode, buy a gun and move on, but if you get killed then let game instantly respawn you, give you certain time to buy a weapon with invincible eyeframes so that opponents can't kill you, and after you done, you can move on and continue playing. Easy stuff. Then there is even more problems. Like useless grenades, useless guns, cheaters etc. And there is solution for those too. For grenades, make them useful. Like, if you throw grenade under someone's feet then after it explodes it one shots the target and that's it, back to respawn your opponent goes. But ONLY if your opponent were close enough to grenade, otherwise he will only get certain damage. Easy fix, right? Same with the guns. Make them all useful but to a certain situation. Like for close encounters that would be shotguns, for medium encounters that would be SMGs, for further distances that would be rifles and for long distances that would be sniper rifles. Then the pistols can be useful at medium range too and machineguns for suppressing fire. As for the cheaters, the fix is easy too. Just make your game resistible against any software and that's it. So that nobody could hack, break or decrypt it with any software. And the only thing you can do is launch and play it, but not hack or anything like that. Again, easy fix. And that is how, in my opinion, good CS game could be made. Sadly, Valve only cares about making money and they don't even allow fans to make anything these days. And latest two projects that were taken down (TF2 remake and Portal 64) is a proof to my words, no matter how you defend Valve. And thus why we are ended up with crappy Counter-Strike 2, that has old gameplay and tons of problems.
