Thanks Michael for this update video about SlingTV. I'm still going to consider it, for the lower price over YTTV, after I've had a chance to check out their plans' channel lineups. The only downside for me if we do go with SlingTV is that I wouldn't be able to dvr record anything on the local channels, and especially one of my favorite daily programs, Inside Edition, which is only broadcast on the local CBS channel.. But I wanted to ask here your opinion about the best type of antenna for getting the most local stations/channels.. Is the Mohu antenna (60 miles range) the best to use..? Thanks so much for your input! 🙏
We have had Sling TV since they began. I hate that you can only watch ESPN on one channel, but they have others we like such as tennis, westerns, (for the husband)and history. Thank you for your video. Have a great weekend. ❤❤❤❤Update: Over the weekend, Sling added more channels including Broadway On Demand, Ambient, Sc-Fi, Beauty, and Horror. ❤❤❤❤
Another great video. Thanks. The thing that concerns me about Dish and Sling is that Charlie Ergen is always having carriage cost fights with various networks…and while many of them ultimately get resolved, there are many times when Dish and Sling temporarily remove networks from their lineup until the deals are reached. That can be very disruptive to viewers.
I got Sling when I first cut the cord in March 2022. I was happy with it, especially when MLB playoff time was coming. But then Sling got into a fight with Disney and dropped all Disney owned channels, including ESPN, which airs the first round (Wild Card). One of my teams was in the playoffs, so I was not happy. I could have waited ti see if they were going to settle it. But my payment date was soon, and I did not want to pay for another month of Sling if they weren't going to have ESPN in time for the games I wanted to see. So I canceled it and signed up for RUclips TV, more money, but it was only for the playoffs. I have an antenna so I don't need to pay for locals, but in this case, I was willing to pay for it for a month. It's MLB playoff time again, and this time, Sling isn't fighting with anyone over money, so I signed up again (and got that half off for a month deal!). But this is the beauty of streaming - you can cancel and switch around at any time, as there are no contracts, and you can do it online, no arguing with someone on the phone who wants you to stay, as it is with cable.
We had Sling for a while and it's okay, we added Sling when RUclips TV dropped the Tennis Channel. What I don't understand is why don't they offer a third package for locals?
My guess is that adding that third package would require additional resources to handle negotiations with the hundreds of local channels across the country. The way it is now, Sling only carries locals in O&O cities for FOX, NBC and ABC. I'm not sure Sling would gain much by having that third package because there's so much competition at the $70+ price point, which is what that third plan would have to cost. But I don't know for sure.
@@MichaelSaves .. No doubt it would be a hassle but Sling is a big enough company to manage it. I always thought the locals weren't offered because locals would require inclusion for all packages. But I have no actual idea.
@@DJaquithFL because then it would cost as much as RUclips TV or Hulu with live TV. Sling has a very unique niche in the streaming industry. And I love it.
I’ve noticed that Sling has had a lot of technical issues recently. Whether it was video playback or trying to change my subscription online but it didn’t go through on multiple occasions. I feel it used to be very reliable before, but not so much now.
This concerns me. We had Sling last year for football, and it was great. I’m getting ready to add it again next month, so I hope they get their tech figured out. Otherwise, we will be forced to go with a more expensive option. 😢
I just moved this month and I was looking for a streaming service. Because I wanted to watch the college bowl games, I signed up for the combined Blue and Orange service. I signed up because it was cheaper. You get what you pay for. If my college games are on ESPN then I'm fine when it comes to watching them. If a game happens to come on a network channel then I have a problem. Not only does Sling not carry local channels but I don't see network channels like ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX at all. Basically I get ESPN 1,2 and 3. I also get the news channels and some of the more popular cable channels like History Channel. I started at the introductory rate of $30 per month. Of course that goes up to $55 in February....No way in hell BTW when I got it, I tried to set up some of my favorites. 30 Channels? Hardly....I had to flip through over a 100 channels (Channels like the Baywatch Channel, the Family Feud Channel) I don't want that garbage. In any case, I'm probably going to go with RUclips or DirectTV. RUclips is only about $20 more a month. Sling is simply not worth the $55 a month
: ( Sales have been down for my business for the last 8 months... time to start trimming the fat. This Video was very direct and helpful. So feel pretty good about cutting the $206 a month Direct TV and getting this. After seeing this also, I realized that my friend had this when I went to visit and it was ok.
We are long time Slingers. It's cheap and if you're not sports junkies, it's perfect. The streamer that comes up with a customizable "20 channels for $20" will clean up because they all make you pay for filler channels nobody watches.
If you don't need a 24/7 live stream of CBS, the $5.99/month Paramount+ Essntials plan might work for you. It offers live streams of any NFL games that are airing on your local CBS station. The $11.99/month plan has the 24/7 live stream of CBS. But if you just want it to watch football, the cheaper plan will probably be enough for your needs.
The reason for me to get sling is because of soccer ⚽️ . I love to watch the Premier league and uefa champions league plus on sling you can also watch your favorite football team .
Probably cheapest way of getting ESPN & TNT. With an antenna and Sling Blue at $40 a month its the best deal for live sports. Sunday night Baseball on ESPN for MLB and NBA on TNT also MLB and NHL on TBS (subject to blackouts) is cool too. Sling Blue with an antenna for $40 for live sports is not bad. Combine Fox and Abc for over the air along with TNT, ESPN and TBS not a bad deal. I will wait for ESPN to branch out on its own to switch out Sling Blue. But until then. Sling Blue with antenna is the shh.
I'm not sure if this has been answered already, but is there any way to record shows/programs on Local stations/channels that we would get using an hd antenna..? Any dvr-type device that might be available to do this? Thanks for any input about this.
@@MichaelSaves Thanks for that info! I'll have to check it out. I'm not familiar with anything about dvrs other than the "built-in" dvr feature we have with our still current Comcast service. Haven't yet cut the cord with them, but I'm hopeful that we will soon as soon as I can determine exactly what and how we will migrate to. Thanks again!
@barna1299 since I'm a sling tv subscriber. I use the air tv. It puts the local channel's in my guide. And since I have a usb hard drive. I can record my show's. And it has a dvr. If I cancel sling. I can still use the free app with the air tv.
I vote for Tablo. AirTV does integrate antenna channels with Sling, but online tech support sucks. Once the power went out briefly, and when it came back on, the AirTV wouldn't work, said I needed to do a firmware update. Nowhere on the TV, mobile apps, or website was there any way to do this. And as I said, their online support sucks. So I had an expensive paperweight. The only way I could get it to work was to reset it to factory settings, and then it wouldn't let me use the external hard drive unless In reformatted it. Because of that, I lost all the recordings on it. I never had such issues with my Tablo, and they also have extensive online support if you do have a problem. Also, I think Tablo has a better tuner, because it gets more OTA channels than the AirTV did.
@@christinemurphy7683 Thanks for the input about dvr for ota, with tablo or airtv. I was liking the idea of SlingTV because of the lower overall cost with the combined Orange+Blue plans (if still is $55 total, without extra add on channels..) But even though it's fairly easy to hook up an hdtv ota antenna for all the local free channels, I'm feeling like it would be too complicated and time consuming, at least for me, to hassle with an additional stand alone dvr device, then possibly an additional usb? hard drive for recording storage, etc. I realize for a lot of people this (SlingTV + extra devices for dvr) might not be too much hassle to work with, however I'm now leaning towards either RUclipsTV or Hulu for our cable streaming service. I just hope they will not continue with a trend of gradually increasing their prices... 🤔
Had to cancel it twice because they wouldn't let me change my package and if I resubscribe I have to pay $92 for some reason. So I guess I'm done with sling.
If Sling has all the channels you are looking for, it probably would be the cheapest deal. But some people get YTTV and supplent it with Frndly TV, which is less than ten bucks a month and has a cloud DVR option. Frndly has A&E plus a bunch of other channels that YTTV lacks. If you don't need cable news or sports channels, Philo at $25/month is another option.
I watch a lot of your reviews I just wanted to say I try sling and my preference it sucks RUclips TV has everything I want and more it is truly a better service you pay a little bit more and get way better service thank you for all the videos
I did free trials of Hulu, Fubo, DirectTV and RUclips. Of those four, Hulu was probably my least favorite. Right now I'm leaning toward RUclips TV. I like the setup, Their guide is easy to use, the channel selection is pretty much what I want. Sling is a mess.....
I have Sling Blue and am getting fed up with the way they run commercials and ads. Not only do they run so many (I counted 17 in a row one time), they are all the same ads/commercials. It's like they run them for one month and then switch to a different advertiser. And network tv would never go to commercial in the middle of a character's dialog. But Sling does. SO annoying. It's getting to the point where the cheaper price is not worth the aggravation.
I got it for the news, but Sling tends to swamp any "unfavorable" news with silly gov ads like NHTSA guide to seat belts, or people on spectrum 😂 Fuqsling
