The issue is people allow average players to have podcasts and gas up their legacies and all the basketball takes are true just because “they played the game” when in all reality these dudes are trash compared to their peers and we shouldn’t be listening to them talk basketball

No. . You wrong for that. It wasn’t like he was some bum kid who walked into UNC as a try out. He was an all American McDonald’s high school game. He was the number 2 option for the UNC Tar Heels. Sean May was number 1. He helped win the NCAA men’s title. He was a lottery pick. He’s the poster boy for wasted potential. He’s admitted that he never had the work ethic to be a star in the nba. More interested in dating a kardashian and having fun going out to clubs. He has multiple 30 point games in the nba. Averaged like 14 points in his best year.

🎯 you can see through the BS. He wasn’t useless but he acts as if he was more than role player level talent. Regardless of politics he just wasn’t all star or superstar material and his attitude was a huge factor in his career not going the way he wanted. Ppl like Haslem have shown and proved that if you are an average or below average level role player with the right attitude there will be a roster spot for you.

I'm a diehard Tarheel fan that watched 05 Heels win the Championship. McCants is a lier. Coach Roy and his teamates always had his back because the media didnt like him. McCants said JJ Redick couldn't create his own shot and the media hated him. NC State player un tied a Carolina player shoes one game and they laughed. Roy said if McCants did that the media would kill him. Roy and his teamates had his back always. McCants went pro blew through his money so he wrote a book around the time UNC was being investigated for allegedl fake classes. NC State and Dook was secretly behind the rumor because UNC was dominating in recruiting. The rumors around UNC being given death penalty and Coach K coaching NBA players in the Olympics is how Dook took back over recruiting. UNC and McCants teamates canceled McCants because they know he wrote the book just to make money because controversy sells

McCants came to Carolina with questions about his character. It was known that out of high school, he was hard to deal with mentally.

i think rashad is caught in a bit of a situation where he has an obligation to match gil's energy with his story telling and confidence. not saying its excusable though, but his popularity grew more from this show than how his career as a pro panned out in the league

I can kind of see where McCants is coming from a little bit.
When they came in as freshman, Rashad carried the team. The same as a sophomore. The other guys were good but struggled a bit to find their game at that level.
Then when they were junoirs, Sean May had turned into a monster in the paint. The 2nd half of that season, he was the best player in the country. Rashad had the stomach flu or something like that and missed like 3-4 games. He did have to take a bit of a backseat to Sean May as a result. Plus McCants did get a lot of negative press.

I really don't see where McCants is coming from. McCants did lead the team in scoring his freshman year, but you also have to take into account that Sean May got hurt only played like 10 or 11 games that season. After his freshman year the coach was fired and Roy Williams was brought and Sean May struggled with his conditioning while trying to adjust to Williams style of play and recovering from that injury.

McCants was very good in college, but sometimes it seems like he saw things completely different from everyone else. When I see him discuss his UNC teams, it comes across as if he was playing with a bunch of bums. The team that won the 2005 championship was loaded!! So much so that Marvin Williams actually came of the bench, but ended up becoming the #2 pick in the 2005 NBA draft. That team had four guys drafted in the lottery, Marvin Williams (2nd), Raymond Felton (5th), Sean May (13th) and McCants (14th).
