It took me two months to read crossroads of twilight luckily getting a warning from my library helped me find motivation just finished im so relieved that the slog is over
It's a good day when the slog is over! Back to the better books.
Knife of Dreams HYPE!
Wooooo!
congrats on conquering the SLOG! Knife of Dreams is a big improvement and I'm halfway through Gathering Storm and loving the series again!
That's great to hear!
VICTORY over the slog has been achieved!!!!!!
Achievement Unlocked: Survive the Slog
@@alexnieves lmao you read my mind I was gonna put that and chose not too. I’m dying.
One of the differences between a WoT vet on a fifth re-read and somebody on their first: the newby uses "plot" in the singular. Jordan insisted on giving everyone a major character-arc on-page, timed most of them to the Seanchan subplot (ie: Mat marries Tuon, Tuon has meeting with Rand, Tuon orders raid solving Egwene subplot; meanwhile Perrin and Faile can't re-unite until the Seanchan Army gets to their location; the only non-Seanchan linked plot is Elayne and the throne). So if Egwene is 63% of the way to TG, but Mat is 86% we're just gonna need to talk about Egwene a lot until she catches up a bit.
That's pretty cool
You’re through! Knife of dreams is so much better. I currently have 80 pages left in A Memory of Light. I have completely forgotten how much I hated this series during the slog. The ending is worth it. It’s so worth it. Ive heard places what Brandon did was the literary equivalent of “landing the plane on the Hudson River”. Oh…and don’t worry about Perrin. The return to form is coming.
Great to hear about my man Perrin and I'm hoping they I love the ending so much that I don't even care about the slog.
The Sloggest Of The Slogs, hard agree!!! Just finished it myself finally and glad it's over. I had much of the same issues you had, and a friend even warned me about the whole overlap problem, but still, oof. And yeah, the zombie grain town, I wanted that to go somewhere, I kept thinking it might get tied in with something else and have some influence. The Seanchan has been a quizzical part of the series from day one, hopefully it all gets better from here.
Much better from this point!
Congrats on surpassing the slog! It is really a big achievement, but the payoff is awesome. The next books are really good, hope you enjoy them. Great Review!
Thanks I'm happy to be beyond it now and I'm looking forward to the final books!
Great progress on the series Alex! I will finish The Fires of Heaven next week.
Hope you're enjoying your journey through Wheel of Time!
The slog has been defeated, and now Alex can enjoy reading again!
Woooo
Yup, Faille is consistently the worst. Congrats on making it this far, though! It does get...better.
I'm looking forward to Knife of Dreams
Put your seatbelt on 'cause rapids and waterfalls coming up with the last 4 books. It will seem impossible that so much can be happening after the slowness of the slog.
That's what I'm excited for!
Reading these when they came out, book ten just felt like a giant slap in the face. My memory of it was that half the book was just people all over the world wondering, “What the hell was going on over there with all that power (from the concluding event of book 9). While it probably isn’t quite as bad as I remember, I nearly quit over it. I went into book eleven with the mindset that odd give Jordan one final chance to redeem himself.
I'm just hoping Knife of Dreams delivers because the slog was a big oof.
Well done Alex, I'm one book behind and I'm not going to read New Spring. So Crossroads.. sounds like I have a tough one next. I have been listening to Winters Heart and agree not a lot is happening however I am still liking the Matt thread so that's a positive. The Slog is rambling, not a lot progresses, I'm thinking trust the author/authors to round things out for a great last few books. Overall I love the series. Favourite book so far is The Great Hunt. 🤓
The very ending of Winter's Heart is great but yeah, Crossroads is just....boring.
And you have Daniel considering this series the best ever... 😂😂😂😂
Cause it is
There's definitely an argument for it but MAN the slog was rough. I think even with the slog through it will have far more good than bad in the series.
@@alexnieves yea, I don't doubt that it is not a great story, but it's definitely not the best. If he (Rob) had kept it shorter and had been more concise it would be an amazing story for me...
Even for me, who thinks that KingKC is sloggish at more than multiple times, the writing is exceptional and yes, to this day: KKC is better than WoT(to me)
I think if the slog got edited into 2 books the entire series would be 🔥
@@alexnieves Tbh I think all books should of been shorter and more concise, but I gotta respect anyway the man's work. One can't have it all
At this point people may as well just read a summary of the slog and just skip them.
It's certainly an option. I think there's a great 2 books of content here that got stretched way too thin. Basically as the slog goes, less and less happens.
Not sure what the fandom says, but I agree - New Spring was underwhelming. Maybe I was expecting too much, given the characters who are in it. Glad I didn't leave it till the end of my WoT read.
Yeah I just wanted something different I guess. Pretty sure it's mostly liked by the fans.
I think I'll do the same. I'm on beginning of 11, and I don't think I want to take such a pause till the final resolution.
I also knew the slog was coming but i feel the real slog is book 9 and 10. Maybe readers would be more eager to start this series if they knew it was only 2 books. Because its really worth it to read this series.
Yeah 9 and 10 are definitely the sloggiest.
Yeah - if books 5-10 could be condensed into 2 maybe 3 books, I would have been much happier.
Congrats on making so much progress on The Wheel of Time! It's too bad you didn't enjoy the books much. I am also in the slog, which maybe helped me appreciate New Spring more than you did. Peace!
I'm just happy it's behind me now! Onto the great books everybody has told me about.
@@alexnieves I think there's an announcement being made. I can hear it now: "You're entering the Brandon Sanderson zone. Prepare for a SANDERLANCHE!"
Rofl
Where/When do you suggest people read New Spring? What book order?
Damn, I'm still on second and I'm more afraid of the slog. Anyways, great review!
They're really good until the slog.
At this point I hated every character except for Rand, aviendha, lan and nynaeve it never really recovered after the slog for me (probably because I can't stand almost the entire cast of characters) . but it does for most people so hopefully you will enjoy the series far more than I did!
I agree completely on Rand, Aviendha and Lan. I have to say though, Nynaeve was without a doubt my least favourite character. She just annoyed me book, after book, after book. Sanderson helped a bit, but I think my disdain for her was too great by then.
I'm sure I'll enjoy the last few books!
The hate for the characters is real... and don't get me started on Nynaeve.
Rand, Lan, ok. Siuan and Min are fine too, so is Moraine.
Otherwise, I enjoyed mostly second cast characters, like Byrne.
Oh, and Perrin sometimes.
But gosh, the girls and the AS...it made the books almost unreadable.
So glad I skipped the prequel.
It was pretty disappointing.
Commenting years later (late 2024), but going to do it anyway! I think I got through the slog better than most people. Because I love Rand and Nynaeve. I like a lot of others, but I really only care about Rand and Nynaeve. So when I hit The Dragon Reborn, with 1% Rand inclusion, I let go of my made up rule that I couldn’t skip anything. I was disappointed with the slog when each book came out, but got through them quite easily…by flat out skipping everything with Perrin and the godawful Faile, and skimming anything to do with Mat, Egwene, Elayne, or Aviendha. 😂 You can be a purist and say I’m not a real fan. I say, I’m a fan that didn’t have a real slog to sit through! 😉 Was never interested in reading New Spring. Because, duh, not about Rand or Nynaeve!
Yeah they don’t have email but they got 3 girls who can FaceTime in their dreams… this series is just way too long. Great storyline but it’s painful to get to the point. I think the first 10 books could’ve been edited down to 3 so far. Can’t blame Robert Jordan for this. Publishers gave him a bunch of money for all these books so he had to write it. The man can describe an entire room down to the wooden grain direction so if he didn’t pass way, we would be on book 19 by now. I’m so irritated with how long it takes to get to nothing. They can create doorways to different places, FaceTime in their dreams but have no clue what the other characters are up too. Sure I could just stop reading but I’m 10 friggen books in… Mama didn’t raise a quitter lol
I definitely feel your pain. Ultimately I enjoyed the series overall but it's incredibly flawed and is absolutely bloated.
Ouch, ripped out taint.
Big oof
