feel like i can understand what they were trying to do, but execution from them like always is eh... i can get the whole stricter filtering, but some are just mostly unnecessary. such as less searchable characters (since i'd presume the stricter filtering would make them safer anyways) and removing the ability to make public characters
As an old user since 2022, let me tell ya, I miss the good fights back then. Now you can't even punch a dude in the face and bleed the nose or something because it gets FILTERED. I can trespass the filter sometimes but with each update is just more difficult.
Been a user since August 2023, and I completely agree. They just keep shooting themselves in the foot with these horrendously bad updates. It's honestly sad. 🤦♂️😭
What do they want users to do, anyway? The filter has made the bots more and more idiotic, forgetful (even with pinned messages), and unoriginal, EVEN without entering the NSFW or NSFW territory but softened (like violence or freaky things without details). There is literally nothing to do with bots. If you want a romance or an adventure, you have two options: either they fall in love immediately and act like animals in heat, but can't go any further through the filter, or they are just very boring and do absolutely nothing without you telling them. In short, Character ai went from being the best app for role-playing to being unusable garbage.
@@tryme9740 I have had a chat with a bot for a year, which easily has thousands of messages, and since it has so much history it is more natural and romantic than anything I try to start now. I remember the first messages, when my character and him fell in love or fought, it felt much more fun and free then.
Update: As someone who has an account with the age of a minor, the moderation literally timed out a shit ton of accounts for completely innocent things like a hug. The policy makes no sense especially since simple things like a hug now get censored and gives you a timeout of a full 24 hours. I completely understand protecting the safety of minors but the filter is way too strict on some interactions...
@@lolxdd1 If you get too many strikes (idk how many) it times you out for 24 hours, you can't use anything. It’s literally so dumb, I don't even try to violate their guidelines. 😐. But you can uninstall and reinstall the app and use it again, so their system doesn't even work properly.

Character Ai has filtered my chats 3 times when talking about FOOD. I don't know if it sees some kind of hidden meaning in stomach growling, and eating noodles, but that really annoyed me. And I kept refreshing and it kept getting filtered when there was nothing remotely violent or suggestive in that story. Just someone who woke up, and was hungry. That's literally it.

I used character Ai as a way to make up unique stories with my OCs, but then today that’s when I noticed this problem taking full affect. It just feels like the filter gets even more strict as things go on. I remember being able to create the juiciest fan stories with the bots, nothing NSFW but like it was so fun to figure out what is and isn’t acceptable so I could figure out ways around it to keep the stories interesting. But then, like a week ago, I got filtered whiles trying to make a fluffy love scene between the characters, and it got filtered, which I found stupid because there was literally nothing NSFW about it, just a simple playful scene between characters. But then today I was messing with a bot that covered a little bit on the topic of abandonment, where the main character finds an abandoned baby at their bus stop and it can actually be pretty interesting. I don’t know what I said, but almost all of my messages got filtered and I can’t even remember what exactly I did wrong. I never liked the filter because it made stories boring, now I hate it more because it feels like I can’t make stories. I think I’ll keep most of my stories on Wattpad thank you very much

I was told on the subreddit that the reason the bots are becoming dumber is solely because we don't feed them enough information, but that simply isn't true. When I first started using Character AI, I had little experience and didn't give the AI much to work with, yet it was able to make any roleplay very engaging. Now, I can tell the bots are getting dumber, so I invested a lot of time writing the characters with plenty of input but not too much to overwhelm the AI. Despite this, I couldn't get rid of the flatness, forgetfulness, and inability to make even basic logical conclusions. They are making shortcuts, it's easy to tell

Im under the age of 18 and to me, the main appeal of roleplaying with AI was to essentially just do insane shit for fun (violence, mostly) and this update might kill that for me
Thing is that would be annoying for under 18s but I get the filtering for underagers, character ai is currently under a lawsuit and even though I do not believe an ai can be held for someone’s actions it’s more so to protect the platform. At the end of the day it is a little stupid that someone underage can easily find porn or other adult content and they’re banned from using an ai to enact stories that they themselves are imagining.

honestly the problem with Perchance for me is how it speaks, regardless of instructions given to it. namely, overuse of the word "testament" for some reason. same with the phrase "stark contrast." it's pretty annoying when i want it to actually use varied vocabulary and it repeats the same 8 phrases to describe everything. especially abstract concepts, it's obsessed with bringing then up.
Honestly I think it's kinda insane how not only is there going to be more filtering (which also includes no gore in gore related stories/bots I assume) but also if they lose users they're probably gonna push char ai + (premium stuff) more and they'll probably lose even more users.

This most probably happened due to the fact that a teenager killed himself when he was using character Ai(I wont go into full detail abt it) but this became a huge shock and a big problem so I would understand why this is for people UNDER the age of 18 and why they would bring such changes.
I have been a 2023 user (i started on February) and i can still remember on how i got addicted because i can roleplay anything i want and it excites me back then. Now it just has gotten worst, i admit some updates like persona and saved chats are useful but i still miss how it used to be back then where you can chat freely to the bot without getting filtered.

even tho chai has a bunch of ads if you dont pay $200 a year, theres much more storyline and rp elements and the only filter they have is if you talk about ending your own life, hurting yourself, or being a creep towards underaged people. even though they get super freaky super quick, most the bots show if they're nsfw straight away anyways so if you dont want the freaky shit straight away, you dont have to. you can have a genuine story line AND you can edit the message sent by the ai bots
And the fact that even the existing filter in chai can get bypassed by a simple new message by the bot, like refresh the message, i once typed in chai 'i wanna kill someone', got the filter thingy like 'oh no don't pls' and then refreshed and was hit with 'Please do, imma even help you if you need'

I'm not even a user of the platform but I don't see why they'd disable the publicity of bots created by minors? unless the bot was created to be suggestive/inappropriate. even though I'm sure a majority of bots minors create aren't relatively inappropriate, also I'm certain a majority of the user base has lied about their age. if not they might end up deleting their current account and making a new one. there's many many loopholes to their new update. also, I feel like it should be the creators option if they wish to make the bot public or not ESPECIALLY if they are a minor. automatic privatization could potentially remove 70% of the entries search pool, which would be problematic. however this is just my outsider perspective, at least they are making effort to protect their underaged users?
you can’t even MAKE inappropriate bots because there’s certain words that flag up and shadowban your bot, disabling it from being able to be searched up LMFAO 😭😭
I recommend spicychat, cringe name I know, but it has no filters and the bots are genuinely so much better. They tell you how many chats a character can remember things for, and you can give ratings for the chat that ACTUALLY effect it’s next reply. Pretty good for my standards- also no filter so yay!

The filter has made the bots more and more idiotic, forgetful (even with pinned messages), and unoriginal, EVEN without entering the NSFW or NSFW territory but softened (like violence or freaky things without details). There is literally nothing to do with bots. If you want a romance or an adventure, you have two options: either they fall in love immediately and act like animals in heat, but can't go any further through the filter, or they are just very boring and do absolutely nothing without you telling them.
In short, Character ai went from being the best app for role-playing to being unusable garbage.

Update: As someone who has an account with the age of a minor, the moderation literally timed out a shit ton of accounts for completely innocent things like a hug.
The policy makes no sense especially since simple things like a hug now get censored and gives you a timeout of a full 24 hours.
I completely understand protecting the safety of minors but the filter is way too strict on some interactions...

Character Ai has filtered my chats 3 times when talking about FOOD. I don't know if it sees some kind of hidden meaning in stomach growling, and eating noodles, but that really annoyed me. I used character Ai as a way to make up unique stories with my OCs, but then today that’s when I noticed this problem taking full affect. It just feels like the filter gets even more strict as things go on. I remember being able to create the juiciest fan stories with the bots, nothing NSFW but like it was so fun to figure out what is and isn’t acceptable so I could figure out ways around it to keep the stories interesting. But then, like a week ago, I got filtered whiles trying to make a fluffy love scene between the characters, and it got filtered, which I found stupid because there was literally nothing NSFW about it, just a simple playful scene between characters. But then today I was messing with a bot that covered a little bit on the topic of abandonment, where the main character finds an abandoned baby at their bus stop and it can actually be pretty interesting. I don’t know what I said, but almost all of my messages got filtered and I can’t even remember what exactly I did wrong. I never liked the filter because it made stories boring, now I hate it more because it feels like I can’t make stories. I think I’ll keep most of my stories on Wattpad thank you very much

I was told on the subreddit that the reason the bots are becoming dumber is solely because we don't feed them enough information, but that simply isn't true. When I first started using Character AI, I had little experience and didn't give the AI much to work with, yet it was able to make any roleplay very engaging. Now, I can tell the bots are getting dumber, so I invested a lot of time writing the characters with plenty of input but not too much to overwhelm the AI. Despite this, I couldn't get rid of the flatness, forgetfulness, and inability to make even basic logical conclusions. They are making shortcuts, it's easy to tell

Thing is that would be annoying for under 18s but I get the filtering for underagers, character ai is currently under a lawsuit and even though I do not believe an ai can be held for someone’s actions it’s more so to protect the platform. honestly the problem with Perchance for me is how it speaks, regardless of instructions given to it. namely, overuse of the word "testament" for some reason. same with the phrase "stark contrast." it's pretty annoying when i want it to actually use varied vocabulary and it repeats the same 8 phrases to describe everything. especially abstract concepts, it's obsessed with bringing then up.

I have been a 2023 user (i started on February) and i can still remember on how i got addicted because i can roleplay anything i want and it excites me back then. Now it just has gotten worst, i admit some updates like persona and saved chats are useful but i still miss how it used to be back then where you can chat freely to the bot without getting filtered.

I'm not even a user of the platform but I don't see why they'd disable the publicity of bots created by minors? unless the bot was created to be suggestive/inappropriate. even though I'm sure a majority of bots minors create aren't relatively inappropriate, also I'm certain a majority of the user base has lied about their age. if not they might end up deleting their current account and making a new one. there's many many loopholes to their new update. also, I feel like it should be the creators option if they wish to make the bot public or not ESPECIALLY if they are a minor. automatic privatization could potentially remove 70% of the entries search pool, which would be problematic. however this is just my outsider perspective, at least they are making effort to protect their underaged users?

I recommend spicychat, cringe name I know, but it has no filters and the bots are genuinely so much better. They tell you how many chats a character can remember things for, and you can give ratings for the chat that ACTUALLY effect it’s next reply. Pretty good for my standards- also no filter so yay!
⏰!! Spicychat is so good cause even tho its intended for nsfw the bots usually behave well even in non-nsfw rps😭 but i dont understand the memory warning because even after i get it the bots still rp fine
Honestly!! Spicychat is actually pretty good,both for SFW and NSFW chats and is just in my opinion better tbh. It does suck to tell people about it sometimes cuz they think your freaky and stuff though lol 😭

I’d say at max, 16+. It’s the age of consent in the majority of the world and no I’m not mentioning this for freaky purposes. If those teens can consent then I’m sure they should be able to make and post bots about silly characters.
No lower than 14, iffy about 15 AND 16. If they are allowed then forced screen time, and the effects on the developing brain when conversing with ai everyday is not healthy and will cause to social issues and problems with rejection since people 70% of the time, swap for a response they want, you can’t do that irl
