  • In November of 2020, we visited a small Mayan village called Laguna Chebela in Quintana Roo, Mexico. During our 3 day tour with our newfound friend Marlon Mercanti Villanueva, of his sustainable tour company, Elvia Je De Kanan, we met the Cahum Family.
We were casting for our upcoming documentary "Faces of the Modern Maya," which is currently in development. We wanted to give you a glimpse into the documentary we're working on and to see a Mayan home deep in the jungle.
Along with getting to know the family we saw how they made homemade tortillas. We also ate a delicious, traditional Mayan meal. We interviewed the brother Efrain about his life. We went on a tour of the forest nearby to see the edible plants with Efrain and his sister and biologist, Cecilia Cahum.
We had an amazing time with the Marlon and the Cahum family who welcomed us into their home with so much kindness and warmth. :)
And we are so grateful to our wonderful guide Marlon Mercanti Villanueva, of Elvia Je De Kanan:
