Bob was right in this case. They did OWE IT to the fans. They were all still performing and had their health. Fans in the audience Were CRYING while smiling! What does that say?

I didn't know all this ! I want to personally thank Bob for being so persuasive !
The time the boys spent on stage together was priceless, Roger even mentioned Syd !

I almost passed by this video. I am forever grateful for watching it and have untold new respect for Bob Geldof for his perseverance and commitment to making it happen. Kudos to David and Roger for aging as gracefully as their egos will let them which allowed us to witness history. Bob’s insistence that the band never really said farewell was so eloquent and on point that it really was what needed to be said at the time it needed to be said for it to happen. Thank you Bob, and the band for giving us one last look at the group that we can forever remember. It let a lot of us live in peace about the whole situation anyway. Wish they could continue to work together afterwards, but this was a huge historic win for rock & roll fans throughout the world. Thank you Bob!

The one thing I regret is I'm sure we were all robbed of at least another Dark Side of the Moon or another Animals album or something of that magnitude! If only Dave and Rodger wouldn't have been so childish with each other.... yes people do get angry at one another angry enough to get into a fist fight but I just hope they regret it as much as I do! A combination of Dave's playing and singing along with Rogers brilliant lyrics doesn't come along that often...... we were robbed!

There were no more Meddle, DSOTM or WYWH in them. They were moving on, with only Roger Waters motivating the band on The Wall and the Final Cut. Post waters Pink Floyd albums were tedious, and Rogers own solo albums impressive, but pretty raw. Just like the Beatles, they split when they were spent. Just be thankful, they did not split after DSOTM, which was close to happening.

Great story told by Bob Geldof. And good for him in his persistence with David. I understand the initial issues around them breaking up, and I know most of it had to do with Roger, but it's absolutely appropriate to call out the childish grudge Dave holds that would prevent doing the right thing for the fans and for the cause of Live 8.

I tend to agree for that time, Dave was the child. Have you read Rogers whiney complaints lately about Dave. He has just become a bitter old man.

I really wonder what it was like that night? I mean Pink Floyd finally reunites everyone is super elated and yet Paul McCartney still comes out. I know they saw him open but still coming back at the end had to be icing on a great cake. I still haven't learned as much about Live 8 because it's much more complex than Live Aid was.

Messy divorce, basically. As far as I can tell, most of the lasting resentment is the result of the bitter legal wrangling between Waters and Gilmour over who got to operate under the "Pink Floyd" name. Waters lost that battle, obviously, but most of the resentment seems to be on Gilmour's side even though he won, so I suppose it must've become really nasty in the middle there somewhere.
Once any relationship descends into "Speak to my lawyer!" territory, I guess resumption of normal friendly relations becomes ... unlikely. Sometimes it's easier to just stay out of each other's way and avoid re-opening old wounds with a wrong word or perceived slight.
They do occsionally still play together, though. Gilmour (and Mason) played on a few dates of Waters' solo tour of The Wall in 2011, which must've been a really nice surprise for fans, so hey it can't be total war between the two men anymore because Geldof didn't have to set that one up :) ruclips.net/video/zFc-mN3slV0/видео.html
