    There are two kinds of activity. 1) goal achieving, and, 2) stress relieving. Maybe people "wasting time," are actually productively relieving stress. Leave them to their distractions from the hell they are living in.

      Stress-relieving activities are only stress-relieving for a certain amount of time. Go overboard and comes unhappiness and unfulfillment because the more important things are taken for granted. Yep, that's me most of the time.

    I would have to say the opposite! I know it sounds counter intuitive, but I have found that if I base my value of time on, say, what I 'used' to make, or more than I get now, it makes me less likely to take a job, project or time out of my day to do things that are more mundane.
    More importantly that being productive, we have to _enjoy_ what we produce. Such as making a necklace, or raking the yard.
    Hard to do chores when you feel you should get thousands. Instead of thinking in monetary terms, the simple idea that _time is money_ should suffice.
    But what is money? Comfort? Time?
    Once we think it through, I feel it is all relative. But we are only as productive as the results that our efforts have produced.

      It's because once you reached a certain level of wealth, gaining more is just not a good use of time anymore. Sounds like you have reached it. Yes, some people don't have a limit, actually it might be a toxic hedonic cycle they are chasing, gaining more and more, but never being actually happy with what they have.

    • @Sara-lb6sf
      @Sara-lb6sf 3 года назад +5

      It sounds like you're farther on the spectrum than I am, so I don't know if this will help. I've realized to stop caring about how "normal" people do things and go at my own pace. Trying to do things the "right" way gets me overwhelmed and makes me ignore whatever is causing me stress. This causes a cycle of indolence. It wasn't even that I had no skills/talent or drive, I just wasn't able to use my skills efficiently because I wasn't doing it my way, I was doing it an unnatural way.
      For example, when it comes to focusing, I have a pretty short attention span. Whatever task I'm doing drains my energy fast. Forcing myself to focus longer makes me feel anxious, overwhelmed, and upset. I may finish that task, but I don't feel like doing any other task that day. I found that if I let myself wander: I feel better, I gain more skills in the long run, and I am more likely to finish my tasks.
      It was tough in the beginning. I never let myself work naturally, so there was a lot I had to manage. At first, it seemed as if I was avoiding things, and I still wasn't getting much done, so I made an online to-do list to edit it easier and to make sure I knew what I had to do. I put things that I wanted to do in there too, so I didn't overstress myself. I made sure to follow what I was feeling. If I ever felt like I could do a task, I had to start it before I lost that motivation. If I ever felt like I really didn't want to continue a task, I'd write whatever I was able to, and move on to a different task.
      Sometimes I felt that I couldn't do the necessary tasks anymore that day. Sometimes I couldn't even start on one task. All that matters is that I tried. I opened the page, and I wasn't feeling it. It's okay; I trust myself to do it later. I thought I could never rely on that, but after doing stress-relieving activities (like hobbies), I found myself to be in a much better mental state, and I developed my work ethic easier. If I ever miss a task, it's okay. Opportunities will always come, so I better get ready for the next one.
      I hope this helps. I hate it when people tell me to just focus

      My main goal is getting into 3D design with Blender. I'm living with my parents and don't currently have a job so I want to improve at a skill. Trouble is I keep bouncing off.
      I guess I should try procrastinating on work by working out but that feels like suicide with the current heat wave. Though I have to admit the lines between "I'm not doing this thing for a logical reason" and "I'm not doing this thing and looking for excuses" have been getting blurry lately.

    Good video. Inspirational but perhaps also bit short sighted and generic. Similar to point of view that blame poverty squarely on the "laziness" of people and ignores the conditions the person is facing; or the ones where survivorship bias is completely ignored (giving examples of very successful people completely disregarding their background). Noting taken away from the success of anyone (to promote that is the gist of this video) but its also not fair to simply ignore the reality of what many people have to live through. Wasting time is of course not great but at the same time you need do activities that relax and recharge your mind. Sometimes these activities can seem mindless to someone from the outside but the person themselves benefits form those.
