I am absolutely astonished, I don't how but some hours before i saw this vid i was thinking: How cool would it be to have a V8 2002 and boom YT served it. How crazy is that?
Phil, absolutely dumbfounding - your skill level is over the top! The M5 motor looks like a factory fit. Amazing! More young people need to learn how to use their hands!
I used to roll in a stock 2002 35 years ago and it was the most exciting machine on the roads in Galway. Kieran Mullen was a stunning driver. The things he did were magic!!
I agree with goheat 77. How can anyone in their right mind find something to dislike about this build. The workmanship and finish is absolutely terrific. If nothing else recognise the ability of Phil to do such a build.
This was the first car I drove long distance when I was 14, yes 14, with my father. It was a 1973 2002 and was an incredible car. Now living in the Munich Germany area for 22 years and I now drive a 991.2 Turbo Porsche but I so miss that 2002. I would take this orange 2002 with an M5 any day of the week. Well done man!!!!
I've owned a 72 and a 75. Back around 2002 I emailed a few BMW guys on forums asking for advice on how they would go about a 1972 BMW 2002 V8 build. Everyone of then stated it was a waste, couldn't be done or just didn't respond. I have always wanted to do this and I love it!!! I best she's a beast!
Dude, hats off to you for having the balls to cut against the grain of purism and probably value too, in order to fulfill your own dream. I think that you've built yourself a unique and beautiful car.
Hey Dude! You did a great job! I got the same round rear lamp, in the same color in 1989. It was an automatic transmission one, built in 1972. That was pretty seldom in Europe, cause less then 5% were built with automatic gearbox. I liked this car very much! A truck hit, sealed the car to death. At last, I sold it to a car mechanic from the local BMW dealer, cause this guy had likewise an automatic 2002. So the car finally found its end as a spare part donor and not directly at the car graveyard. Today, I got 2 BMW's. An E46 touring and a classic 1502, from 1976, with the big US- rearlight. Greeds from Germany...
My friends Sister had a white 2002 when we were kids, it's a strange car, and caught my attention back in the day. Great machine you have refurbished there.
Dude, the 2002 was my first car... and this, especially in the inka. So damned beautiful - all without addressing the beast of a s62 in it. Half the weight of an e39, I can only imagine.. Good god man, this thing has to be a rocket.
This is one of the coolest car builds i have ever seen (and i watch way too much car stuff on youtube). Very very nice and very impressive since this is your first build. So clean and so pure!
All I can say is "WOW" awesome build and all you did to make it work! So very impressive! Most don't and can't comprehend how much you've done and accomplished in your build. Much respect to you, enjoy that machine👍
this is amazing.. I am pLaNnInG on doing this with an LS motor. I'd love the purity that Phil achieved but the simplicity and cost of an LS motor... cant beat it
Oh my god! This is just.....Sorry I don't have words to express the joy i'm feeling watching this build. I mean, I was trying to achieve 2 hp from deleting the mechanical fan and installing an electrical fan but after watching your video I think I will throw the towel down and just enjoy my puny 45 hp tired engine as it is! Sorry but this is insane.

If I were to built a 2002 I would do almost everything different. That said your car looks amazing, I bet it drives amazing too. You did an outstanding job here. Love it.
Man, oh man, did you hit the home run with that car build!I could not believe the sound you got from that engine. Some people won’t like what you did, me, I love it.By the way, I’ve seen a lot of things sold on Amazon or eBay, so now I need a gallon of that engine sound. You did a great, great build. This is a very good restore hot rod to say the least. Thanks for posting and sharing with us.
I might have tried to keep some of the trunk usable, that really depends on if you want to use the car as a driver though, but very few criticisms on this build.
I was dreaming of smth like this !!! v6 or turbocharged 4. But what you have done is just Waaaaaaaa. Bravo. And what a great sound on such a tiny vehicle
That's an astonishing piece of engineering and scarcely beleivable that you achieved that on your first ever build. Congratulations! I liked the video with drone footage as well. That showed the car off beautifully.
maaan, that's one of the best builds i've ever seen, from the concept of keeping the car's original overall look to the engine to the interior, just waaaaaw !!!
Absolutely beautiful! Top quality work. This is the best cart I have ever seen anywhere for any money. I would have loved to see a progress video on the build of this wonderful beast.
Phil, your eye for detail and craftsmanship are both off the chart! You have built one awesome car. It would be great to see it in person so you need to bring it to one of next year's M1 Concourse Cars & Coffee. That stretch of Oakley Park road, even though it is short, is one of my favorites in the area.
Just checking in to say nice job! I was wondering about it being too front heavy but it seems you worked around that. I'd buy one like without hesitation, seems like a lot of fun.
Sorry my comments are to the video production, and not the car, but I think I have given my fair share of credit to my ingenious husband for his built quite enough. Sig Thank you again, and I didn't get to see the whole video on FB, so seeing it now on RUclips, I saw the credits. Again dude, you didn't miss a beat, all credit is given. Love the special mention to Mrs./Baby Dixon and Jen!!! You have great talent with production, I'll be following, and hope one day goggle and RUclips are paying you for your efforts.
Hats off, a bow and a standing ovation. The epiphany (a manifestation of a divine or supernatural being) of epic proportions. And it looks good also. Well done!
I am absolutely astonished, I don't how but some hours before i saw this vid i was thinking: How cool would it be to have a V8 2002 and boom YT served it. How crazy is that?

Gorgeous car...had a 2002 in '73 and a 320i in '77. Miss those cars....miss being that young. Enjoy......
This deserved a Petrolicious or even Jay Leno video
Phil, absolutely dumbfounding - your skill level is over the top! The M5 motor looks like a factory fit. Amazing! More young people need to learn how to use their hands!
Nice name hahah
@Mark Grudt Thank God he was only momentarily delirious, lol.
I love when someone with Phil's talent decides to take a classic car and bring it to the next level performance wise. Amazing one off Bimmer!
I used to roll in a stock 2002 35 years ago and it was the most exciting machine on the roads in Galway. Kieran Mullen was a stunning driver. The things he did were magic!!
I´m a BMW car guy from bavaria and I grew up with the 02 s. LET ME SAY SOMETHING:
I DON´T LIKE IT: I LOVE IT!!
I agree with goheat 77. How can anyone in their right mind find something to dislike about this build. The workmanship and finish is absolutely terrific. If nothing else recognise the ability of Phil to do such a build.
"Yeah, ah...This is My first car build"....lol...Amazing first time build!
Love it! can't believe there's no roll cage though, brave man to trust those A pillars!
Even though it only plays one song, the sound system in this car is bad ass!
Extremely impressive. Your attention to detail is off the charts.
I like it and I'm glad you kept it all BMW also.. no need for a Honda motor when that s62 makes power and noises like that. Congratulations
Dude, hats off to you for having the balls to cut against the grain of purism and probably value too, in order to fulfill your own dream. I think that you've built yourself a unique and beautiful car.
Outstanding build! I would suggest widening the front bumper and flares to cover the front wheels.
"this is my first car build", i cant imagine what kinda car he'll make for the second build.. so humble but also beast at the same time
LOVE IT !!
I've always been amazed and intrigued by someone who can take parts from other cars and make them work together. Nice work.
Man, I've had trouble getting OEM replacement parts to fit. That car is dreamy.✨💎✨
Wow, i had 3 BMW 02 Series in the 70's. This is a awesome work.
It doesn't get any better. This is perfect.
A miracle that you managed to fit the engine. Well done! Love the dash!
Hey Dude! You did a great job! I got the same round rear lamp, in the same color in 1989. It was an automatic transmission one, built in 1972. Thanks for watching, sorry to hear about your old 2002!
BMW’s first Naturally Aspirated M division engine in a 2002?? That is a wet dream!
My friends Sister had a white 2002 when we were kids, it's a strange car, and caught my attention back in the day. Great machine you have refurbished there.
Well done , beautiful job. I learned to drive in a 2002 back in 1977 and I loved it. Nice to see someone doing something different. Paul. U.K.
Dude, the 2002 was my first car... and this, especially in the inka. So damned beautiful - all without addressing the beast of a s62 in it. Half the weight of an e39, I can only imagine.. Good god man, this thing has to be a rocket.
You’ve created a monster! Seriously dig the color, throwback seats, and that you kep the same exhaust tip. OEM glass! Hell yes.
Wow, how can someone watch this and dislike it is beyond jealousy. This is a fantastic build, keep it forever if you can ❤️
Beautiful built. I always like the combination of modern technology with the look of the 70s. Well done, great workmanship. 1A!
This is one of the coolest car builds i have ever seen (and i watch way too much car stuff on youtube). Very very nice and very impressive since this is your first build. So clean and so pure!
Your car drips cool....you have made a classic that I can safely say we all want....
Amazing build and quite an achievement!
I am not worthy to even view this stellar project. Total excellence.
Max Nix totally worthy! Thanks for watching!
All I can say is "WOW" awesome build and all you did to make it work! So very impressive! Most don't and can't comprehend how much you've done and accomplished in your build. Much respect to you, enjoy that machine👍
Wow, Wow, Wow. You are an artist with exquisite taste and obvious talent. CONGRATULATIONS and thank you for sharing with us !!!
Amazing build. I wish we could see more on the driving impressions of the car.
holy shit dude, that engine has enough torque to rip that 2002 frame in half. Nice build!
stunning car, i remember that colour from my childhood, couldnt be more beautifull
this is amazing.. I am pLaNnInG on doing this with an LS motor. I'd love the purity that Phil achieved but the simplicity and cost of an LS motor... cant beat it
I had a 74 2002 tii these cars are the best BMW ever made, V8 is mind blowing !! Beautiful work
I have wanted to buy a 2002 and do exactly what you built ever since old college days.
Stunning build. Love the color and fit of the M5 engine. Looks almost factory.
Excellent job. These older cars are so rare in England. Great garage too. 👍
Oh my god! This is just.....Sorry I don't have words to express the joy i'm feeling watching this build. I mean, I was trying to achieve 2 hp from deleting the mechanical fan and installing an electrical fan but after watching your video I think I will throw the towel down and just enjoy my puny 45 hp tired engine as it is! these 2002's are so sweet and you have done it justice in spades. Really nice and top quality.
Outstanding car, thanks for sharing!
Many of them drove on the streets, when I was a little boy.
Greetings from Germany
Unbelivable - my dream car from 1980 when I owened 1600, 1802, 2002 and 2002ti..

If I were to built a 2002 I would do almost everything different. That said your car looks amazing, I bet it drives amazing too. You did an outstanding job here. Love it.
right on man, that's a lot of modifications and a ton of dedication!
Amazing work! You can feel love given to this car. Great! work dude.

IT IS AMAZING....THE BEST 2002 I'VE EVER SEEN!
Beautiful job! Everything was so well thought out and executed! My only (slight) "complaint" would be that I'd prefer closer gears -
Holy shit dude, I love everything you did on this car. The interior quality is top notch! It even matches your hair!
K.J. G. I actually only did the video, Phil is the BMW Master... thanks for the kind words!
LOL!
I might have tried to keep some of the trunk usable, that really depends on if you want to use the car as a driver though, but very few criticisms on this build.
Well done Phil. Anyone would be stoked to have your ride. My only quibble is the exhaust note, otherwise great.
Dude the video bonus footage at 10:44 is insane
prostock3 yeah that engine sounds so good!
Always lead with the exhaust...it's not bonus...it's the video people want :) - 11:49 ftw!
I'll keep that in mind for sure, thanks for the feedback!
I love everything about your car. Beautiful build.
The standard of work in this build is top! Well done Phil!
I couldn't agree more with you... phenomenal build
then you havent looked at the interior once, the stitching was obviously done by someone with parkinsons
oh he did it himself, sorry but sometimes you gotta admit that your not the best for the job or train a bit more
I'd swear that was an old fox body 5.0 from the sound. I mean that in the best way. Love it!
tedium37 yes sir... Flowmaster mufflers!
I was dreaming of smth like this !!! v6 or turbocharged 4. But what you have done is just Waaaaaaaa. Bravo. And what a great sound on such a tiny vehicle
Good job Phil. The car came out amazing. I’m sure you’re next build will be even sicker.
He already has one in the works!
Congrats youngster, absolute great job.
From an old timer that knows.
That is exactly what I dream of doing to my 73' BMW 2002! Beautiful work!!
This, Sir, is a masterpiece. A wonderful build car. I love it.
Amazing. That engine would be great on a E21 BMW as well.
That's an astonishing piece of engineering and scarcely beleivable that you achieved that on your first ever build. Congratulations! I liked the video with drone footage as well. That showed the car off beautifully.
Top notch work, humble owner. American Hero!
Wow the noise the noise ....love it
Saw this in person at the Woodward cruise. Beautiful car!
This is what it's all about! Unique home made beast. Congrats!
major work, major money sunk into this car. Its something that he will keep for a long time to be sure.
Good Job!
I wish we could do these things in Germany without losing our registration.
Here is a no sense.....
jpsr20det it sucks.
Your first effort is a masterpeice.
Very well done.
Looking forward to your next creation.
He's already purchased the platform... I, for one, am very excited!
Awesome, much hype!
That is a beauty, tasteful bodywork. probably overkill on the engine, but that was the point I guess.
maaan, that's one of the best builds i've ever seen, from the concept of keeping the car's original overall look to the engine to the interior, just waaaaaw !!!
Seriously!
do you need someone to tell you it's f amaaaazing ??? man i really can't find enough words, it's just great
sounds a bit like a old 350 firing through flow masters. Nice build
Absolutely beautiful! Top quality work. This is the best cart I have ever seen anywhere for any money. I would have loved to see a progress video on the build of this wonderful beast.
How can anyone dislike this?? it is just incomprehensible..
Agreed!
Because of the Japanese parts. It's part rice burner thanks to this douche.
Front tires stick out just a tad too much for my taste but overall, a pretty cool restomod 2002.
some people in the world are mentally ill.. that car is stupid amazing!
Very inspiring. My next build is going to be a 2002. Congratulations!
Thank you and good luck with your build!
absolutely gorgeous !
This is bloody brilliant!!! Fantastic job. My one regret is selling my 72 2002. I miss her!!
My DREAM car right there!!
That's what I'm saying!
Jeff Sailor must had missed you at M1 the few times I went
Although this is historically not correct but i approve this build. It is well made and sounds intoxicating. Greets from Germany.
Wow. Great build by a true artist.
Just checking in to say nice job! I was wondering about it being too front heavy but it seems you worked around that. I'd buy one like without hesitation, seems like a lot of fun.
Nice work Sam!
Quite the build my friend. Bravo!
Agreed!
Very very nice! If you can come across a pair of Marchal Amplilux headlights that would really be cool.
Sorry my comments are to the video production, and not the car, but I think I have given my fair share of credit to my ingenious husband for his built quite enough. Really means a lot, thank you so much Misty! This was so much fun to make, thanks for letting me take over your garage for the day!
Hats off, a bow and a standing ovation. The epiphany (a manifestation of a divine or supernatural being) of epic proportions. And it looks good also. Well done!
THIS MAN NEEDS TO GET ON JAY LENOS GARAGE!!!!
Oh gott.
Thanks for this video.
I am a old man for Germany.
Thank you for the nice video of this car.
I have only BMW, i like this.
Sensational build....I want it!
Brilliant and over the top build! Congratulations on an outstanding car
Looks like a lot of fun. I'd like to see the s62 in an e9 for your next project. ;).
Man at that sound. Sounds like one of USAC Super Modifieds. I LOVE IT!
