Hi Jimmy. I started this summer in 2020. I am learning to Slalom Ski. I have my first tournament in November. You showed me a lot, and I think this imformation will help me Ski better. I started off pretty well because I Snow Ski.
my man im 12 and and doing 1 ski and hear you are in your 9's BAREFOOTING and doing this crazy stuff with your ski you really inspired me to push harded in my 1 ski career so thank you
I love slalom skiing was too scared to do it two years ago so was using two skis but then broke my knee doing so and then tried slalom when it healed and loved it ever since and am keeping at it and improving also love to barefoot
Bro, when I first started, my coach told me I’d need to take the max angle out of the buoy possible. When Regina and Nate were young, they would do the same. They weren’t the best at first, but they became the best. It really becomes crucial at higher speeds like 36 and especially when the line gets shorter. That being said, good progress!
Amazing job!!! Maybe try to find a boat a little bit more suited to slalom or shorten the rope. It’s hard to judge but you could do much better with either better boat with better wake or it it just the Speed that is a bit to low (IMO) which gives you a really high wake to cross. Still, amazing progress!!! Keep it up!! You will love the sport for the rest of your life!!
Good job, young man… My 1st experience was about the age of 9, on doubles w / 100 ft rope. Behind a 70 HP Evinrude OB here in So Cal, I believe some 48 yrs ago… (Yes, I'm old as DIRT) The 100 ft rope kept dipping in the water behind the wake of the boat. I probably only weighed about 90 lb. I was wobbly also & that caused me to pull forward & back, like you did also. The following year my stepfather let me try the single from his set of doubles & I was able to get up, the 1st time (I really believe it's good when we're not dragging massive water) I'm sure a few of the older guys know what that means So with my B-Day being in November, I asked that my Present would be a SINGLE & that's what it was… That's what I was able to achieve just like you did! Congrats on your achievement & Shoot for the STARS because even if you only reach the Sun, at least you'll have reached a good deal more than others… 🏆😎🙏🏼
Thanks for the tip. I am training at a ski school now so my coach is gradually increasing my speed. He wants my technique to be perfect at a lower speed before increasing too much.
Yes you should be going faster. You are sinking on your cuts. Like the other poster stated up to 27 mph and you will improve much quicker. Crossing wake will be much smoother as it is smaller. At your age your strength to body weight ratio is very high. You’re doing great! I’m from Canada and was training at the time in the late 80’s with the provincial team coach and had me at a provincial contending level at age 12. He was begging me to enter competitions as he said I was better than most he was training but it never came to be as other priorities were in place. Great job out there! So much fun. I skied on a Connelly.
hey, you might be better if you had a better wake in your boat! the wake looks like it is for wakeboarding, i have a malibu and the wake is amazing, it isn’t to big or small and i’ve also been barefooting! i’m 12 btw 😃
You’re probably right but don’t think I’ll be able to convince my parents to buy a new boat anytime soon so I’ll have to stick with it 😅. As my speeds are getting faster the wake is getting smaller so that has helped. I ski behind a Malibu when I’m training and it’s pretty cool yeh.
oh yeah the speed makes the wake smaller, because are old boat was a moomba and i was only going like 25, now on the malibu i go 32 and the wake is much smaller
I was skiing today and my ski came off mid cut and I skipped across the water like 5 times because I was going like 40 mph and then the ski hit me in the face which felt good
hay man i Loved the video i am 12 and i also love being on the water Just like you I just wanted to say when you see i recomend going faster like 25 - 30 that is what i ske at
Hey I just ran into this video. I’m really into water skiing and I’m 12. With your skill at your age you could easily do the when you grow up. You can do it college then go pro. I’m wanting to do the same and it’s just a suggestion that I think you’d be great at.
Andrew Maddock not as easy as it seems dude, I have been with and fought against pros, not in waterskiing but in mountain biking. The fact is that in any competitive sport you can’t become pro anymore after collage theses days. If you want to become a pro nowadays and especially in a few years you need to get sponsors and need to be discovered at age 14 to 17. You need to train and be sponsored all throughout collage, if you don’t start being sponsored at these ages you fall behind fast no matter how good you are, the people who are sponsored have more time for training, more recourses, better equipment, can fly and travel to competitions for free, get the best training from seasoned pros. You probably don’t know yet but if you are in collage, especially in the US you don’t just have money to buy a boat at your local lake so you can train or get good equipment. And The more years you skip not being sponsored the more the competition is going to be better then you. The kid that is sponsored since he is 14 is going to have as much skill when he is 16 as someone who is 21 and is not sponsored. For example I’m 16 and next year is my last real chance to get a sponsor and it is very unlikely to get one the year after. If I don’t see real improvement over the next year and don’t get in top 10s in national or the big international competitions next year I am out of any possibilities to go pro. There is no chance for me or almost anyone to go pro after the age of 18, let alone after collage.
Thanks man, I have another season under my belt since this video and am 10 now and I agree! I will do another update video at the end of this season to show my skiing now.
Bro it doesn’t matter how fast you get to the Boyue it’s how fast the boat is goin everyone can do that speed the way I learned was get up to 45 on the half course and when ready get up to 50km on the full course
Hi Jimmy,
U r lucky to have such a opportunity and facility's.

Thanks for the tip. I am training at a ski school now so my coach is gradually increasing my speed. He wants my technique to be perfect at a lower speed before increasing too much.
That’s cool
Ski schools are expensive

Thank you. The ski I am using in the video is an old 59” HO Judge. I have just moved up to a Radar Vapor Lithium which is really fast!
I started last summer and is already 22off at 32 mph and I'm 10 but good progress
Hey water ski kid i was wondering if you prefer to start with 1 ski or drop once up when slolem skiing. Iblove bolth
Hey, I come up on one ski, I dropped a ski twice when I was learning but have always got up on one since then.
Try jumping the wake next I am 12 and I slolom ski and jump just remember to bend your knees
Thanks man
your knees should be strong on the wakes and not bent
Vincent Kaws yeah your right
Vincent Kaws but when you get up or cross the wake th knees should be bent
Nice job 👍
Thank you 😊

I was skiing today and my ski came off mid cut and I skipped across the water like 5 times because I was going like 40 mph and then the ski hit me in the face which felt good

That’s how I started
Cool!
Do you still ski?
Hey I just ran into this video. I’m really into water skiing and I’m 12. With your skill at your age you could easily do the when you grow up. You can do it college then go pro. I’m wanting to do the same and it’s just a suggestion that I think you’d be great at.
Thank you man! I’d love to go to college in the US and then go on to be a pro. Hopefully we will both make it and I will see you on tour some day!
That would be awesome if we saw each other on tour.
